  1. Hi everyone, can anyone advise on the removal of lettering? We are re-naming our new acquisition and want to remove (safely) the lettering stuck on just above the rubbing strakes... Any suggestions? The yacht is GRP - not wood! Ta, Danny
  2. Yours truly at the helm of Luna last summer Brian... Once I had the programme to easily re-size pictures, it was a doddle. For anyone interested... it is quite a light package that can be found here. It is a one-at-a-time programme I believe although I haven't tried to find out all that it can do. It was a free download. For the avatar, I had to re-size to 320x200 and then do it again to 50%... I'll try some more later, but I am supposed to be working now!!!
  3. anyone tell where Luna is moored? This was last summer - it's not too hard!
  4. I haven't often posted pictures... I have a few half decent ones - can someone tell me how I resize them to post???
  5. Lovely Pete, especially the Upton picture... one of my favourite yards. Perry, I really like the one above PH Bridge, I know it is a bit of a typical 'postcard' view, but it is a delightful composition... nice one...
  6. Brian... I thought you were a Lunch Time TV man ? Yeah, but I still have some standards!!! :-D
  7. Interesting reply Keith... I was once made a similar offer by a very nice boatyard, but like you could not take them up on it! I think this is the case, that there is far less margin for negotiation than with a travel agent for example. I entirely agree though that having a boat out at all, even at reduced cost, must be better than having it sitting idle... or am I missing something? Correct me if I am wrong but I do not believe the whole hire fleet is booked out for any but a very few weeks of the year... The evidence of my eyes tells me that! Surely the operators could flag up the possibility of 'phoning for a 'short notice' bargain - lastminute.com style?
  8. That seems a vast amount of money Brian, but to be fair, if it is a decent holiday for say seven or eight (or even more on some boats), not so vast. I know we have had that discussion before here, there and everywhere... I have looked at narrow-boat holiday prices before and they can be very expensive too. I guess you may be right. In the example I gave, I have no doubt there were lots of variables where costs could be shaved. At least with the boat hire business on the Broads, the price structures are fairly transparent and the variables are not too great. Mind you, it would be interesting to hear whether anyone has got away with a bit of bargaining! Loose Women!!! Are there such creatures?
  9. You rascal Brian... what about my question!!! :-D I don't indulge often as it is so dire... :x But as I downed my coffee and chatted to the dogs, it was on in the background... honest!
  10. Sorry Richard, we are talking again now... :-D Some of you may have read it over there in the light... apologies for the overload here in the bright! 8-)
  11. Ok chaps and chappesses, I posted this question elsewhere, but now elsewhere won't talk to me... so lets see what you lot think!! Over lunch I watched a brief excerpt of a programme called 'Don't get done, get Dom' (I think). Well, anyway, what seems to happen is that a little bald crafty cockney type (Dom) assists members of the great unwashed to get good deals on goods and services. It just happened that I watched a bit where he helped a guy haggle with a travel agent to get a 3.5K holiday in Hawaii knocked down to a 'I'm cuttin me own throat' 2.5K... not bad I hear you say! Well here's the question: Have any of us haggled over the cost of a Broads holiday? Is there anything to be gained by saying to your Blakes telephone operator, or the yard concerned 'Well, I really want the holiday, but you're going to have to do better on price'? The guy on the show did it not once but about three times and gradually got the price lowered by a massive £1,000, and, all sorts of extras thrown in, like free travel insurance, and entry to the posh lounges at the airports! Danny
  12. Somewhere in the Brundall area Howard, or should we be thinking in terms of Gt Yarmouth, as it was September '06?
  13. I agree, fascinating thread... Brian, what about a fun 'Broads Trivia' thread? it would supplement the 'where is this idea' and create some fun!
  14. Jonny mate - you need to admit defeat. It is exactly where they have said - trust me, I know that bend like the back of my hand!Aren't you talking about basically the same place under different names? Just past the eel sets as you round the bend towards the Sound, Duck Broad, Barbers Hole etc. Not as far up as Deep Go...
  15. Hello Nige, Lovely shots and a great experience for your youngster I am sure... I am still hoping we may link up one day and take our lads sailing... That should give you a clue to my identity!! We had a Hunter out this summer - totally brilliant and an easy sail...
  16. Add huge and river blocking to your list of blessings brought by SC Brian, and you'll see where a lowly saily is coming from!
  17. Frankly, I hope they leave it there... : : but I am sure the many people who enjoy the river trip would disagree with me...
  18. Or, if you are more local, drive up to Whispering Reeds and hire a lugsail half-decker for the day... can't beat it
  19. Very true Brian, it is nice that so few of the bigger boats can get up there with ease... Having said that, I think it's worth the effort if you can. Too many get put off by the wait to get under... But hey, why not take a dinghy if you can and chug up there for an outing, leaving the big boat down at the Bridge? Your little lass could row you up there now mate! It is a bit of a slog right down to end of Hickling, but the Broad is so beautiful... Horsey Mere has to be one of my favourite places... early summer we were there, and only sailing boats to be seen - about twenty of them in a lively blow, simply stunning...
  20. Ok Brian, I'll be good - I'm sure that is an ideal Broads boat... Just glad it won't go under PH bridge... at least I will be left in peace somewhere!
