All the posts at NYS have rings welded to the top.

And have had for some considerable time. I can imagine after last night’s success, there was a lot of imbibing resulting in silly antics. If boats had moored as instructed/suggested, none would have been set loose without their occupants knowing.

  2. I rather think the atmosphere in Rome on Saturday will be very much in favour of Ukraine. Only a few supporters for England. I was ashamed yesterday to hear the booing during the German national anthem and then every time the Germans got the ball. That sort of thing leaves a nasty taste in the mouth and is totally unnecessary. No wonder we have a poor reputation in Europe these days.

I dont particularly like Ms Burley but that is just a personal choice.    I think there is more to this than meets the eye with our Matt.      From what I have heard there is an investigation going on as to why a camera was in one of the Ministerial offices in the first place which breaks security rules.     Someone has been contracted to put that camera in , in readiness to achieve the end result which we have all seen.       intriguing.

I wonder if we will ever be told the real truth. You would think that MH would be well aware of any cameras and avoid them like the plague when erm 🤔 - otherwise occupied! Watch this space........

Just been browsing NYA's website. They don't do boat hire, they do "private charter", don't you know. "Private charter" is marketing speak for "an upmarket description of boat hire so we can charge more".

I’ve noticed too that there are no apparent hire yard markings, just a pennant with nya on it. I saw Sephora a few days ago, I don’t usually go for ‘sporty’ types but this really is a nice looking boat. For a while I was quite convinced it was a private boat until I noticed the pennant. The nya and Broom top ‘charters’ all fly the red ensign too.

It’s really only just ‘around the corner’ from Berney Arms. Doesn’t take long at all. We came past the Burgh Castle moorings this morning and they are beginning to look good. I don’t think it will be too long before they are open again.

I’ll just add to the above that Burgh Castle itself is well worth a visit. Lovely and easy walk from The Fisherman’s moorings, anyone with a dog would appreciate it too. It does get popular in the summer as it is a fabulous place to picnic and the car park gets quite full.

There's also Herringfleet, though I haven't discovered any footpaths from the moorings yet. It was a decent enough stretch of moorings for our collie to have a run up and down though.

Once upon a time you could walk from the Herringfleet moorings to the mill and a good way inland too. The landowner has now claimed back any ‘rights of way’ and fenced them off. It’s a great shame but the moorings are still useful for a wee stop.

We'd like to try that one out sometime too, but it's not so handy if you are travelling from Brundall down the Yare toward Gt Yarmouth, which is what we'll be doing tomorrow afternoon.

  8. A few days ago we passed the Beauchamp Arms on our way up to Norwich. There was a lot of work going on, paving slabs being laid and tables and chairs being stacked. When we came by yesterday, there are a number of bench tables all laid out and covered areas with the tables and chairs under. It really does look as if the place is going to be open again soon.

That is disappointing, though I must admit we weren’t planning to stop overnight at Whitlingham again. (Those rowers!). It’s only a couple of hours from our home mooring, so we have cruised there several times out of season for a lunch stop and a walk for Seren before making our way back to Brundall.

You do get used to the rowers. It can be quite interesting watching them, from singles to coxed eights. Inevitably there are newbies too, youngsters (and older rowers) out for the first time. The safety boats do create a lot of bouncy wash but of course they’re necessary.
I shall miss Whitlingham if there are no moorings there in future. It’s a great place to stop off if you are going into Norwich the next day, or if you leave the city and don’t want to go too far. Great walks there too.
