Not at all unusual for me to leave home at 9pm on a Friday evening, go pick a friend up and then head up to the boat for a weeks holiday. Travel is easy as the traffic is light, arrive at the boat get settled in with the basics and turn in. Next morning finish the unloading, have breakfast, fill the water tank and head straight of for a weeks holiday.

Thankfully every time I've done that my boat has been there!

Agreed but it sounds as though the boat went missing from Barton Broad or have I got that wrong?

  2. We have antibacterial wipes in the car for use on shopping trolleys and hand sanitiser for use after shopping. I also carry sanitiser in my handbag and sometimes that gets used on a trolley too! If these things can help ward off colds and flu then why not?

  3. The general thinking appears to be that we’ll have a spike in covid cases during October too. Personally I think masks should still be mandatory in enclosed spaces and regular hand sanitising encouraged. I noticed in Roy’s the other day that that all the sanitising equipment on the food side had disappeared. Across the road hand pumps were still in use.

  4. I’ve often wondered what could be done if you arrived back at your home mooring after dark only to find a hire boat moored up. They couldn’t move, not having navi lights so the only answer I suppose is to moor up wherever there is another space and sort it out next day. Recently I watched two hire boats moor up in Cox’s boatyard moorings at Barton Turf, alongside the main river as opposed to right inside the yard. Silly thing was, there were a number of spaces along Paddy’s Lane and one at the staithe. I can only assume they misread the private signage!

Plan for today, head up to Barton Broad then Stalham. Depending on availability of a mooring spot,  will either overnight in Stalham or come back down to either Neatished or Irstead. Looks like it’s going to be another hot one today 😁😁

Have a look in to Paddy’s Lane too, there’s usually room there. And it’s quieter.

Clives new venture , Horning Pleasurecraft ,I believe is the only new yard

And that’s not exactly new any more! Certainly seems to be doing well though, see their boats quite often.

A lot of the day yesterday was spent  anxiously waiting for news that our newly acquired Renaissance 31 had arrived safely from the river Thames to Brundall marina and then to Wroxham marine Thorpe and at 3.45pm we got the awaited phone call to say she was safely moored at their yard. We'll go tomorrow morning to go through her and compile a list of works to keep Wroxham marine busy through the winter and no doubt seriously impact on our bank account! When she emerges she will have a new name  - Hijinks and we plan to berth her on the Southern Broads, Hopefully at Brundall if a  berth is available when we need it.

And may you have many high jinks in Hijinks Carole, I bet you can’t wait to be back on the rivers!

  8. I read yesterday that August was the least sunniest month on record for the UK. To be honest the long range forecast for September doesn’t look too promising. However, our forecasters are not known too well for their confidence or accuracy so who knows!

Even better still, pack the tv back into its box, pour yourself a large glass of whatever tickels your fancy. Sit back and look out the window. Your never see a repeat or suffer bad reception and watching the world go by is truly wonderful and calming. 😉

It does get dark sometimes on the Broads you know!

seems that mixers are in short supply all over, no peppermint cordial and no bitter lemon round here

Tonic has been in short supply round this way (south east) and in Tesco’s Stalham for a while. Good job I prefer my gin neat!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m no fan of scaremongering, but this situation has been developing over a number of years and ignored by those with the capacity to do anything about it.  Brexit and the lack of drivers from EU countries has compounded an already bad situation and will impact all of us.

I’ve heard this time and time again over the last few weeks. Listening to Jeremy Vine last week sometime, a chap phoned in who had trained as an HGV driver. Passed all his exams or whatever is required but he can’t get a job because he can’t get insured due to lack of experience. Surely this can’t apply to all new recruits?

I don’t like to mention the word, but Christmas is coming and the extra demands placed on the logistics industry during the lead up to the festive season will make any shortages become even more evident as it approaches.

This is also being quoted by the ‘experts’ on tv and radio so it looks as if :default_xmas6: needs to be planned and purchased as soon as in order to avoid problems down the line. Anyway, it’s time for the :default_xmas6: displays to appear in Roy’s and Latham’s!

  12. It seems to be hit and miss and, as Coryton said, items randomly running out. I was in our local (large) Tesco supermarket last week surprised to find no fresh milk whatsoever. Absolutely nothing, nada. No such problem this week, seems to be frozen peas and other frozen veg in short supply at present.

It may be worth buying a few freezer blocks from somewhere like B&M and when you moor up if you’re near a pub or shop see if they will allow you to freeze them in their freezers,

If in a pub, you’d better wait there until the blocks are frozen………..

  14. We used to pop into Brooms for water early in the morning before they opened up and got going. Not possible now as the water hose is under lock and key. Also, Brooms changed their opening times yet again a couple of months ago and are now open 10.00 - 1700 daily. So no going for an early fill up or empty out any more.
Pumpouts have been £18 for a single tank for the last couple of years at least.
