  1. Our mooring costs us £1380 per annum for our 37footer.

Thats with an electric point (usage at cost per unit)

Fresh water right behind the boat, pump out pipe reaches the boat without having to move her. On site bog (if your brave enough!) and no silly winter land storage rates just the price of lift out chock up and back in again.

No fancy showers, no campers, park less than 50yards away.

We have paid the Ferry and WRC prices in the past but it wasnt worth it for us, we only wish we had found this hidden gem years ago!

Oh and walking distance to all local services you need!!

  2. I dont think it can be a bad thing that the BA are taking an interest in this issue.

Its all very well for a hire yard to turn a profit on a boat load of numpties (however rare) and then let the Broads Beat and the BA bare the cost burden of clearing up any mess left in their wake!

The signifigance of this issue seems to be a matter of differing opinion but it certainly isnt going to hurt sending out a very clear messege on the matter and I have to say for once the BA have my full support!

  3. Speaking of the Wherry my recent experience is the food was ok but the public areas are not very clean, sticky tables food soiled floors etc. Fair enough it had been open all day but its very off putting and they need to do more to keep the place sanitary throughout the day.

Also in the gents toilets by the stairs there is only one cubicle and in an establishment that size its ridiculous!  I know theres more toilets off the big function room but if theres a function on regular customers cant go in.

Unfortunately the same can be said for the Weatherspoons in Beccles.  Food is of reasonable quality for the price but the place is in dire need of a deep clean.

I also wasnt that impressed by the Morrisons Cafe in Pakefield this week....maybe Im getting hard to please!

  4. The standard aerial I paid £26.95 for has worked far better for me than any omni-directional ive ever spent money on in the past.

I can say with certainty that spending more wont guarantee you a better picture!

Interesting, isn't it? You could almost wonder whether the media had accidentally tipped a pile of refuse on the bank, and then filmed it.

It would not be the first time, on the Broads.

A bit further upstream beyond Carrow Rail Bridge and you will find the rubbish filled bank on the right, looks like a front room, but without the room!!

  6. One of these with a maxview 12v booster and a pole from screwfix!

    http://m.buyspares.co.uk/product.pl?pid=680213&utm_source=google&utm_medium=base&utm_campaign=products&mkwid=sGciv463c&pcrid=166155664440&kword=&match=&plid=&pdv=m&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI8JXKkZui1QIVrjLTCh3L7AunEAQYASABEgKDm_D_BwE

Theres probably better websites to buy it from but thats the product Id go for, smaller than a standard house aerial and we have never been anywhere we couldnt get a picture yet!

  7. Captain Tolleys Creeping Crack Cure is useful but make sure you apply it when It isnt raining or it can run right through.  It isnt a permenant fix the leak will return at some stage its just a matter of time, that could be days weeks  months or if your lucky years, it just depends but on what I do not know!

The varnish method is also a good one and it may even work better than Tolleys.

The best way to deal with it is to take the frame out and reseal the glass to the frame by taking it all apart as has been described.

I have done this myself with 2 of the smaller windows on our boat and rather than bedding the glass to frame in with silicone I used a suitably sized rubber extrusion (sealsdirect) with a bead of clear silicone between the rubber and glass and then rubber to framing, the frame was bedded back in with a non setting product called carafax.  So far so good and its now a few years down the line.

I have also had 2 much larger windows done proffesionally and it isnt as pricey as you might think.

For me theres nothing worse than spending your life chasing window leaks on boats!

  8. We stayed at the Yacht Station last Sunday night and apart from a foreign man shouting into his mobile at 1130pm by the bench through the gate at the far end we had no other issues.

If you go as far up as the electric posts then dont go right up to the gate as we did because theres a bench just through that gate which people could (and did) hang around in the evening although the drunk man shouting was the only person we heard.

I would also avoid mooring directly behind the bus stop because of the buses and waiting passengers.  There was also a homeless women asleep behind it at 8am Monday morning.

I wouldnt say its any worse than any other City in the UK.  We were not disturbed otherwise apart from the traffic which is unavoidable.

As said the walk over Bishops Bridge and around the cathedral grounds is lovely, theres also the riverside park to wander around and Cow Tower but the wardens lock the gates at dusk and will chase you out!!

We came past the Beauchamp yesterday and there was a sign next to the speed board saying. Speeding will be filmed and reported.

This was on both up and down river signs, I didn't notice them on Monday.

I noticed these signs to, I could also name the boat we were filmed from, maybe he is a member here who knows.

I know there are some with little regard for others as far as wash goes but I cant see how you can be on a main river mooring like the Beachamp Arms without being disturbed by atleast "some" wash.

  10. Someone hung their phone out the window of their boat and filmed us passing the Beachamp Arms over the weekend.

Not sure why as I wasnt speeding, we were very near to the opposite bank and against the tide, our boat also creates very little wash.

My 12 year old son was driving anyway!!

  11. Dont the bridges above Trowse to the Prince of Wales Road bridge still have the ability to open?

Whats wrong with Norwich in 100 or 110 and save themselves some infrastructure hassle.  Its a wonder people can afford to use the trains anyway.

This country is so backward in coming forward it becomes obsessed by the most ridiculous of things, what difference does 10 or 20 minutes on a train journey matter, teleportation would be to slow for some people.

If they cant adapt new projects to the existing environment then best to leave alone, however, if they intend to demolish Trowse and install a nice new opening bridge with a bit more clearance under it for us pleasure boaters they will have my full support!

Firstly if you want to challenge me, don't do so by misrepresenting me.  Secondly I have no intention of justifying myself to you.

Was your comment not misrepresenting JM??????????

To imply that those of us who do not share your obsession with the issue of the use of the term Broads National Park are in any way less interested with the long term well being etc of the Broads is disengenuous at best, if not offensive.  You have a strongly held opinion.  I respect your right to hold it, even though I profoundly disagree with it.  I do not question your commitment to the Broads, do not insult me by questioning mine.

Didnt read that way to me.

    unnecessary comment IMHO

  14. Whatever the solution its got to be better to keep it as simple as possible!

A few hair brain schemes have been suggested on this thread that seem far to complex!

I agree with Tims comments totally, why should anyone expect to moor outside a pub then eat their own food and take potential revenue away from that establishment.

The only thing I would say about Thurne Dyke is there are quite a lot of moorings available there if using both sides so it will pay to implement a well thought out and simple system serving both sorts of customer.

Where is this new basin being dug out then I havent heard anything about it.

  15. Whilst there are obviously people who use the trains for those of us that dont in this area they are the cause of a lot of inconvenience to road and river users.

Some of us not only get affected by the inadequate swing bridges but also by the traffic chaos in Oulton Broad caused by the the Level Crossings.

I need to go to North Lowestoft soon, what with Oulton Broad and now the roadworks on Battery Green in Lowestoft Im wondering if I should take a few days food and water with me!

  16. Its been cool and breezy all day today so no need for the only after 1700hrs swings as a result of heat anyway.

They just seem to do what suits.

In my opinion Network Rail need to pull their finger out and take the necessary steps with the infrastructure to provide reliable openings and the BA in taking our money should be on to them and making sure they are doing it!

For starters when did either bridge last get a coat of paint?!

  17. If like me you had spent 2 unpleasant hours this evening re installing your heat exchanger and you had scratched and cut arms and knuckles to show for it the last thing you would want to be do ing would be buying a boat!!

The engine tray was filling with water that was running off me! (sweat)

Have I missed something about Wayford Marine.  Were they not once a yard that would be recommended by a lot of folk on the forum? Im not getting that impression now.

  18. I know theres some would say its just one of those things but if tall vessels were requiring passage for trade closures would be unacceptable.

If heat is the problem they should be able to take steps in advance to alleviate the issue, the BA and us river folk should not be so tolerant but at the same time I appreciate those at the sharp end are doing a good job.
