  1. It may go back to car driving lessons.

Both my stepson and stepdaughter when learning to drive were both told the same thing by two different instructors.

"If the speed limit is 30 then you should drive at 30. Limit of 40 drive at 40.

I was taught to drive to the conditions and with a thought for the other road users.

  2. Can't remember the name but I have it in the back of my mind that there was a small yard which was part of Broadsedge moorings when the whole area was filled with houseboats and a few chalets.

I had a holiday in one of the houseboats which cost me a total of £17.60 including V.A.T. at 10%  (Happy Days)

  3. Whispering Reeds at Hickling and didn't Ludham bridge boatyard hire out small cruisers a one time?

Moonfleet marine at Stalham ( eventually incorporated into Richardsons)

    Ripplecraft also comes to mind

    Maffett Cruisers...

  4. We hired from Alan Johnson Boats at Acle ( next to the bridge opposite the pub)

Have also hired from Brister Craft at Wroxham and Belaugh  Boats.

Porter and Haylett at Wroxham is another I remember and George Smith also at Wroxham

    Another was Martham Ferry Boats

Will try to remember a few more

  5. Hi Kpnut,

I too have enjoyed a holiday in one of the houseboats at Horning. My son loved to take the dinghy with an outboard to the little shop that used to be next to the Ferry Inn to buy milk and the morning paper each day.

The passing boat was one of the Connoisseur class from Porter & Haylett at Wroxham ( now at HW and renamed)

  6. It seems to me that those "responsible" people who decide that it is a good idea not to trim the footpath areas and allow it to become overgrown are very clever.

"If we don't keep the path passible, people will not use it and then we can say that  we will not spend our hard earned cash on something that will not be used"

By taking this attitude it means that the authority will have more spare cash for the Christmas party !!!!!!!

  7. How much assistance was given by the ranger to the four boats that were experiencing difficulty in mooring?

I understand that the reason for the mooring charge is to pay the rangers for their help whether it is needed or not !!!!!!

  8. Who says that if you  if you are gullible enough to give them your card details that they would only take £3 and only take cash from your account just once.

    In a word  B E W A R E !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. When it comes to determining "who moored the boat" the question is what is the definition of "mooring a boat".

Is it the person at the helm? Yes that person was carrying out the act of positioning the boat but did he/she "moor" the boat or was that the person/s who actually tied the ropes to the mooring post?

If the latter was the case there is the possibility that the person/s who actually tied the ropes had nothing to do with the boat but merely gave assistance (as many of us would).

Who therefore entered into the contract regarding the mooring and is therefore responsible for paying the mooring fee ?

  10. Thanks very much for that Chris.

Hoping that you will be allowed to dig deeper into the boxes and have time to post loads more.

Brings sack some wonderful memories of the "old" broads.

  11. Thanks for the info.    I had not realized that Broads Tours had spent cash on new electric boats but am sorry to say I will not be trying one at those prices .

I did not know that they tried to get the boat paid for in the first month of hiring !!!!

  12. Has anyone else noticed there is a new day boat moored among the others on the river?

First boat past the smaller boats has a very upright bow and is a bit shorter than the picnic boats.

Is it a new boat they have obtained or am I seeing thigs?

  13. Just been having a look at the Horning river cams and on the "North" cam there is a boat moored that looks similar to a rangers boat.

It has canvas covers on it but also a sign saying "patrol".

Has anyone any idea what this "patrol" boat patrols and what organization uses it?    Never seen it before.

    Jeff

  14. Is this "brainwave" idea of filling busy waterways with people on unregistered boards and kayaks a good cash earner for the BA then?

How many rangers are they likely to allocate to the three rivers involved to try to ensure the safety of those taking part and everyone else on the water?

Maybe they will come up with the idea that no-one else will be allowed on the water whilst this debacle takes place !

  15. 1 hour ago, FlyingFortress said:

That is a change in policy over the last few years then as I have definitely spoken to people who have stayed there with dogs .

Best to give them a ring I think.

If the information above is correct then give Wayford Bridge Hotel a call as they are definitely dog friendly. And are sponsor's of this site

Thinking about it We stayed there on New Year's Eve a few years ago and had our dog with us👍

No longer shown on he list of sponsors for some reason

Just noticed they are back again

  16. When I moved to the town where I live we had 2 post offices and 5 banks.

Now with "progress" we have just 1 post office and the nearest bank is about 15 miles away ( 30 miles round trip) or about 10 miles each way plus toll bridge costs of £3.

Have no idea what the local businesses do when they need coinage to give as change for all the a "out of date" older folk who pay for things with cash.

What is likely to happen when someone "accidently" crashes the system and switches everything off?

  17. I totally agree with Grendel.

I do carry a "phone" when I leave the house but mine is  a phone and not a mobile office like it is assumed EVERYONE has.

I received an email the other day ( on my desk top ----don't have a laptop ----don't want one) it offered me over £250 off a new "phone".   I had to laugh as I could buy half a dozen of my phones for what I would "SAVE" on what they were trying to get me to buy!!!!!

If an organization insists on me paying with a system I cannot use then they are going to have to wait a very very long time to get my cash ( unless of course they supply me with the equipment I need to do as they want)

  18. If he is so upset at having his name displayed all over the place why does he not read the full sticker, make a note of where and when he has seen it and then take action.......resign

    Problem solved.
