  1. Well done Griff.

I was pleased it took a fellow Yorkshireman to set an example to others.

Will be very interested to hear if you eventually get any response following your visit.

  2. I am amazed that this thread has not yet attracted a comment from our friendly BA staff member.

I wonder if he has been instructed not to get involved !!!

I would be very interested to hear what would happen if 5 or 6 boats rafted up about 10 feet away from the staithe and stayed there for a few hours or even overnight. It would be easy enough to have 2 or 3 rafts of 2 or 3 boats.

I cannot remember ever seeing any signs stating that you cannot mudweight within a certain distance of land !!!!!

  3. Simpsons at stalham staithe may be able to help you if you ask nicely.

I know they have dinghies but don't know whether or not they would hire to anyone who is not a direct customer

  4. The answer seems very simple to me.

All that is needed is a second mudweight.

Reverse very slowly toward the staithe  as you would normally and when about 2 feet away from the staithe lower a mudweight over the stern and make fast. Then go to the bow and lower the other one and make fast.

You then should have a boat which will stay still but is not moored to the staithe so cannot be charged for mooring to the staithe.

    Simple !!!!!       lol

  5. One thing I would add to all the excellent advice given is............if you are in the situation of swinging or throwing the weight make sure that when it lands it goes into something soft and wet.

It could do a lot of damage if it lands back on the boat!!!!!!!!

  6. My comment is don't think of mudweighting anywhere on the rivers. Always mudweight in a broad where you can find somewhere with a nice view and not be in the way of anyone else. Can also be in a good spot for fishing if you indulge.

  7. Hi Mikeyboy

The first two photos are definitely Bridlington

I recognize the sheds at the left of the second one. They are the sheds where they land the fish caught by the local fishing fleet.

The jetty shown in the first one is where some of the pleasure trips and fishing trip boats load and unload passengers.

    Hope this is helpful

  8. Why not spend some of the extra cash from the increased tolls and dredge the whole system.

The spoil could be used to slightly increase the height of the low lying banks to prevent any flooding in the future.

A bit of thinking and public opinion could be incorporated into the landscaping of the "new" banks to make the area safe and accessible to all ( kayakers, paddleboarders, anglers etc)

As well as improving the area it should help to solve the problem of low bridges and would keep some people in work for a while

Just going to try and get my tongue out of my cheek now

  9. Hi kpnut,

I can remember going in a club/pub in Cottingham and really enjoying the mild.

It wasn't until I had been going in for about six weeks that I found out why the mild was so tasty.

The landlord had a habit of adding the odd gallon of Guinness to the mild tank (before the days of all beers being in kegs)

     Happy days

  10. Bring back the "proper pubs" that do straight forward drinks like mild and bitter and also "proper" pub grub like chicken in the basket.

The problem is that they would not be able to charge extortionate prices for good honest food and drinks.

A pint of mild never did appeal with an umbrella stuck in the top of it!!!!!!!

  11. Hi Bucket

You will find that there are a good number of Yorkies on here.

I used to visit Filey virtually every week and often drove a 7.5tonner around the walkway next to the paddling pool at the south end of the front. I had deliveries to make to the cafe that was there (it was great fun in the middle of summer)

I have told many many people that they have not seen a beach as nice anywhere else.

Unfortunately I have not visited Filey for quite  while but have made a mental note to rectify that now that it has been mentioned

  12. You could more or less guarantee thatif the bridge was over somewhere like the Thames the money would be found in a big pot available to English Heritage or the National Park Family.

What a shame that the Norfolk Broads are in Norfolk and not near the capital !!!!!

  13. I read the other day that parking on footpaths is to become a no no in the Highway Code.

Personally I always thought it was a no no but where I live there is someone who thinks that the footpath is their private car park !!! and it's on the corner of a junction !!!!

Would love to see the reaction if a bobby came along and did their job properly.

  14. Just had a look on Google Earth.  I had forgotten that the Horseshoes and the Kings Head seemed to share the car park area.

It looks like the old Horseshoes is now part of the Kings Head....... Adverts for KH on the old Horseshoes building
