  1. Just thought id start this topic with my father in law naval exploites. He couldnt swim but joined the Navy cos he thought hed have a good chance of surviving the war, he did.Despite being sunk 3 times, hes life jacket saved him.On mtbs out of Lowestoft patroling the North sea and Channel, taking on the  German boats who were slower but made of metal so not so easy tu sink.Often out running the emeny, but in a fire fight taking in water, trying to stem the in coming water below decks with the bunks mattres! Our boats were made of wood so faster. The only time he ever talked about the war was when many years ago whilst moored at Oulton along side a sea cadets mtb, the scouts welcomed him aboard and hence he told me some of his naval stories. His only regret was that the navy introduced him to smoking!!

All quiet and peaceful in Faircraft Loynes this morning. No engines running.........yet.....:default_2gunsfiring_v1:

Two boats moored outside the hotel. 20 quid a pop apperently.

Visited the hotel last night. Not cheap but the Lacons and Humpty Dumpty were in fine fettle and Mrs Nog sampled the flavoured vodka. :default_beerchug:

Full marks to the Hotel for the great bar service and most importantly, they didn't boot us out early :default_icon_bowdown:

Only about 6 foot 9 under Wroxham Bridge and the pilot didn't fancy it. So Mrs Nog and I had a very pleasant walk along the railway line to Coltishall. Some grub and several gins in the Recruiting Sargent. Grub not cheap but very good. Mrs Nog's crab salad vanished faster than the gin :default_drink_2:

My daughter and son-in-law stayed at the Wroxham Hotel for a few days last August and we took a temporary mooring at Barnes while they were there. We elected to eat at the hotel  the first night for the convenience as much as anything. The food was so excellent and the waiters such great fun and so thoroughly entertaining we  made it our regular for their whole stay.

Totally agree, weve been going in there for so long that Wendy the owner now recognises us.Great food and weather permitting sitting on the terrace watching the world go by takes some beating.

I think yes. It is a grudge payment. Not acceptable.

The £5, £10, £20 payment all add up don't you know. At Horning, The Swan, there was a £50 payment, or did i dream it. I think that the average holiday maker may decide enough is enough. Unless you are fortunate  enough to be above average.

No you didnt dream it,£50 for a 3 hour stay.:default_hiding:

I don't think the 75 had the credit that it deserved.

Mine was an 04 estate so quite a late model and was chipped for 170 bhp. I picked it up for a song when it was 2 years old and the value of them had plummeted due to Rover going toes up. IIRC it had 40 ISH k on the clock so I put 200k on it myself. During that time it had 2 alternators , a turbo charger and an air con condenser, other than that all other things were consumables (brakes etc). Never had a Z and I am sorry I didn't. 😳.

Replaced it with my current XF estate and strangely enough was thinking about the 75 this morning and how good it was in heavy snow. I had left the snow mode on in the XF and it reminded me of the 75, that was by no means a slouch, but of course the XF has 100 more gee gees.

Ive got a 3 litre diesel XF,the heated front seats have taken a bashing this week. I may be forced to reluctantly sell it if the London Mayor has hes way as its not ULEZ compliant, and i refuse to pay £12 .50 every time i want to visit my daughter who lives in the London borough Bexley.:default_coat:

Hi Kevin. I can’t think why. The temperature actually reached 4 degrees c today and we had bright sunshine. All the frost has now cleared. We changed our plan and went to Yarmouth this morning, not overly impressed by the new market, but it’s not finished yet so should give it a chance. Came back via Potter Heigham, Stalham, Horning and Wroxham but didn’t see any river traffic. Richardson’s had ice in their main basins and the dinghy basin at the New Inn was iced over but nothing that should put you off on the main rivers. Go for it, that’s what I say.

We still have lots of snow and ice, and Greenhithe is still cut off!:default_biggrin:

We travelled up from Kent this morning for a pre Christmas break. Last night we had a fair amount of snow where we live which made us doubt if we would be able to travel today. I checked Barnes Brinkcraft webcam this morning and it showed no signs of snow so we decided to make the journey. There was snow on the ground / roads until we got to Thetford, after which where there was no sign of snow for the rest of our journey to Wroxham.

Have a great time Graham.are you staying at the normal piace?

    Friday 18th November

The wife and I arrived at Horning at around 16:30.  Moonlight Shadow was locked up and in darkness, so we transferred our bags onto the boat, put the kettle on and set about making up the beds with our linen.  We had a cuppa and with everything put away, waited for the family to arrive.  Being a Friday evening, their jour from Milton Keynes had taken a bit longer than usual, but they turned up just after 18:30 and moved their bags on board.

As it was quite late, we decided to go to The Ferry Inn for something to eat.  The pub was almost deserted and the girl behind the bar said they were on the verge of closing the kitchens because it was so quiet.  We hastily chose from the menu, cod and chips for the adults and various kids meals for the grandchildren.  With drinks ordered, we found a suitable table and chatted.

It wasn’t long before the food arrived and I have to say that it was surprisingly good.  Huge pieces of fish, well cooked, crispy chips and garden peas and the kids meals looked good and plentiful too.  The bigger surprise came when we went to pay and all the kids meals were free!  Great value indeed.

The walk back to the marina was pleasant, with clear skies, but it was chilly - hardly a surprise in November really.  Back at the boat, we had some hot drinks and had an early night.

Have a great time Malcolm,In August our first time on MS we all went to the Ferry for tea and were pleasantly surprised with the food, but sadly on our last night we were pretty disappointed with the quality. It will be interesting to see what happens when the place has been refurbished.

  11. The fishing this year has been bonkers, the best by far that i have ever encountered. We were on the Northern broads 2 weeks ago and cought every where we went, over 100 fish.Thurne dyke.the Ant,Ranworth Island.Sutton Staithe,Potter, and even in Barnes marina. Have a great time, let us know how it went down South.

We ate here Friday evening just gone, I'm a big fan of both the lion and white horse, but unfortunately our meal wasn't great tbh. 4 out of the 5 main meals weren't upto the standard I've come to expect. Both my sister and me had probably the worst tartar sauce I've ever tasted our scampi had been over cooked aswell my brothers pie was clearly over cooked. Such a shame as I had talked the food up so felt a bit guilty. We visited the white horse Sunday night and the girls decide not to eat once they found out it was part of the same company. Such a shame after so many positive experiences I'd enjoyed on previous visits. Il put it down to a bad day in the kitchen so to speak. It hasn't put me off and we will try again next time we are afloat.

Ive always been a champion of the Lion, but have to say that the last 2 times we have eaten there the meals have been average at best.Such a shame but hopefully they will get there act together.
