  1. Hi Clive How will the ventilation work i love the practical merits of hopper windows for lots of air and know leaks,  BUT they aren't the most attractive solutions for boat windows, and air con on a hire boat is impractical. The new boat looks very attractive, well done you? you must be very pleased. Will you try electrice drive ,there has been some good improvement lately with brushless motors and digital control . John

  2. Hi Ray There's not much techniel  demand for boat batteries as they have plenty of space without any weight problems unlike a car whare space and weight are the main problems and with fast charging needs unlike boats whare cost is the main criteria followed by longevity, John

  3. Hi Alk First a remote steer outboard!  they all wander you can prevent this by attaching a sail to the leg they are available from marine outlets. Second the hull will be vibra  glass what you see s nothing to do with the hull integrity just pull it all out to reveal the hull, then wash clean with detergent and a antibacterial cleaner. allow to dry and then paint when you replace the floor?? drill holes so that the air can venterlat the space to keep it sweet, the leaks in superstructure need fixing. When you are not using it it is most important to allow lots of ventilation to prevent condensation, this will give you a nice dry non smelling boat to enjoy. John

  4. On the Waveney traveling south towards and about a mile from the Oulton broad junc  approaching the water sky landing place after the derelict steam pump house which is on your right . a 6 figure map reference would be better but map is on boat.John

  5. Hi Baitrunner The ba moorings at St Olaves are good big enough for four or five boats there is a electric point, a height board for the bridge and if you want to there is a foot path up to the pub/road. John

  6. Hi Maurice I use a length of  3/4 inch plastic mains water pipe with a length of rubber heater hose slide over the outside, drill a hole in the top to thread the rope through, you can make them as long as you wish they don't float and tied to railing stop boat floating over the quay heading and they are cheap to make and don't rust/corrode and will bend to get in locker . John

  7. Davits are a pain on a broads boat, poke peoples eye out if stern moored or prevents you stern mooring if boat/dingy attached and unless you have a water tight cover over the tenda/dingy they fill up with water with dire consequences as drain hole gets blocked with leaves. John

  8. Hi Cris yes there are, please define a barge, usually 70plus feet long and 15ft plus wide, or do mean a wide beam canal boat, ok to live on but restrictions on sailing, that's why you don't see any,  the person to speak to is peter who lives on a barge  at the Waveney River Centre.John

  9. Hi Floyd It will be easy to repair wonder why they cut it off, is/was it hinged? easier to drop the whole mast for a low bridge i would have thought or is the mast fixed so only needed to cut sufficient to clear bridge. Ref your rear rail, you could cut one of the round bars then hinge it to make rear/stern mooring easier, then fit a wide stepped ladder to access shore, it looks like you will have a few DIY jobs to sort out before next season, anything to keep you out of the pub hopefully and get brownie points from her indoors. enjoy. John

  10. Thanks for that Paul I certainly youst to look forward to going to daughters and drinking speckled hen but that was some time ago now, i now drink more moderately and beer doesn't taste as i remember it, Whitbread Directors was another beer use to like when i visited a friend's pub. All sadly gone. memorise is all that's left. John

  11. Hi Floyd It looks like someone was let loose with a hacksaw, the ends have been left open! you need to wash them out, dry them, then squirt some maintenance spray oil down the inside then seal with frame sealer otherwise they will corrode and or smell, you say brown water came out of the tap looks like you have steel water tanks or badly soiled, they need cleaning and if they have a inspection hatch repaint interior with bitchumen or better still replace with stainless steel tank, enjoy your new experience. John

  12. I have been told that Green King use a Burtonized water treatment that can mimic any supply of water to what they want, the idea is to brew at Bury and mimic any beer that was brewed elsewhere Speckled Hen that originally came from Henley Which is where i first tried it when i visited my daughter, the trouble is without having a pint of each its impossible to say if there is not any difference, Perhaps Paul can enlighten us.John

  13. Thanks for that Paul, i knew it was a acid i must admit i don't drink no where near  as much these days, there seems to be far less  big boys that make you do it these days about, the fur and feather was one when they closed at 2 30 all down hill back to the boat with tung pie when i arrived. Happy days. John

  14. Hi Cambridge Cabby The Abbot when brewed at Biggleswade would give you a splitting headache in the morning, now its brewed at Bury it doesn't, i asked the brewer apparently they use a different temperature when brewing that does not increase a acide, can't remember the name but this is what caused the headache, i still like Abbot, then Speckled hen then Ghost ship then Trawler boys.John

  15. It would be nice if they acknowledged a boat that that cruises over on the wrong side of the river to pass as far from them as possible, just a nod would do, I go out of my way to do this( oncoming boats not being present) at known fishing spots, all you get is a unfriendly stair, i have had acknowledgement on occasion but very rarely. it would appear that fishermen are the most unfriendly people going. this is not every one but you tend to remember the unfriendly ones more so than the nice/cheerful ones, perhaps it's because they spend so much time in one spot and get somberised. 16. May be they will now reinstate the river bank moorings and replace the bank headings and mooring posts which was supposed to happen two years ago if they haven't spent the money on other things. the whole area is in need of some T L C,they have done one side of the harbour perhaps the other side and river bank with electric points would greatly improve the area and increase the visitors, and if the loaves and fish were to reopen it could end up the best visitor spot  on the broads. John

  17. They need to demolish that bridge! build a new concrete one clad in the original stone with one foot more clearance  which would remove that hump and remove that steel monstrosity that lays on top we could all then use the shed and other businesses  in Hoveton/Wroxham John

  18. Hi Sazzigin you wont need tube heaters until after the season say Jan/Feb just ventilation and conkers to drive away the spiders, so if you are winterizing at end of season you don't need anything just lots of ventilation to stop damp whilst on the hard standing, the heaters are only to stop water freezing up in the system ,winterizing will drain/remove all water that could freeze up,tube heaters wont stop damp.John
