It is usual to smear copper slip(or similar) on all moving surfaces to stop rusting and friction. Even more important on vehicles left parked for extended periods. John

The one thing it will do is make more likely that there will be a mooring available when you arrive, there has been many times when i have not been able to moor when i arrive as they were full then having to mud weight spend time looking for some one to leave then racing to get there before others with the same idea. I didn't notice a shovel in his kit so rather then dig a hole he probably dogged it. John

A mud weight is also useful when stern on mooring, by dropping the weight 5 foot from the bank( or sooner if high cross wind) will stop you from swinging from side to side and bumping the bank while moored this will give you a quieter nights sleep. John

Why does every body have to light a fire what's wrong with a hexy burner and why transfer the cooked food onto a cold plate better to eat from the pan. John

Jeremy Clarkson did a very good show on top gear by filling the Mall in London with all the vehicles still made in England. It was very impressive with the amount still made here. John

Hi When mud weighting dont drop the weight straight down as you will get splashed but swing/throw it away from the boat, when choosing a spot allow for the boat to swing 360 degrees without hitting the bank or another boat ,finally allow enough slack in the rope for a rise in tide if not weighting at high tide, other wise you may wake up in a different spot as the weight is pulled up by rising tide, when retrieving the weight if stuck in the mud tighten rope of on the cleat then gently drive boat forwards/rearwards to break suction when free pull weight up, if covered in mud leave it hanging just below water line then drive of retrieving it when it has been washed clean by movement through the water. I often think that all buildings that have a south facing roof should as part of planning have a strengthened roof to support solar panels rather than just strong enough to support roof tiles, it also seems wrong that good farm land should be covered in solar panels rather than growing food. John

Beaching never closed one foot of track, he told the government what lines/routes were economical and what was not, he even said that certain lines should be kept open in spit of them being uneconomical for social reasons. labour were the ones that closed the lines although Barbara Castle did keep some open for social reasons. Easiest way is to change the diff for a higher geared one, this is what we did to Austin vans to give higher speed and MPG swapped the diff's for MG one's, this will make first gear higher but i guess your not worried about standing starts being a tad slower. John

This also applys to automatic vehicles they shouldn't be towed any distance as lubrication pump is driven by the first motion shaft. John

You could try a motor factor for a after market one, BMW dont make them they get them from a after market supplier in a BMW box and price them higher. If you look on your old one it will have the manufactures stamp on it somewhere. When they do fail they fail in the open position so they dont over heat the engine, it then takes longer to heat up or runs at a cooler temperature. John

Hi Maddi If you travel down the Bure in direction of Yarmouth DONT go further than Stoksby nice wide river until then there's a pub here also a pub at Acle bridge, there's three pubs in Horning plus two restaurants. Then along the Thurne there is a pub down a dyke at the end, a windmill is on the corner of the dyke, then on to Potter Heigham fish and chip shop a pub and restaurant, Ranworth Broad has a shop and pub, It might be advisable to miss out Ludham bridge. Womack water has a village with shops and a pub walk up the lane then turn left at main road up to village, this should be enough as you only have two nights and three days. Enjoy. John

Hi Kpnut I think you will find the outside aerial tv socket connects to the inside one, you plug tv aerial into the outside one and tv into inside one, A Ballard Aerial is the size of a toffee apple and is omni directional so doesn't need swinging to the transmitter and dosn't get blown of direction by the wind or boat swinging when on a mud weight. If you dont want to pay moor until they come for the money probably sixish then cast of and mud weight then if desperate for pub come back when staff have gone home. ditto at Reedham there's the Ferry or free moorings at corner of Chet and Berny arms stretch. John

Hi Adam I went to Tollsbury, it's near Colchester to fetch mine they had every thing I needed plus advice on fitting, It's very heavy so would be expensive to post and if you went for mat it is rolled up like carpets are so edges could be damaged in transit. John

Hi Adam I to have Wilks Tec decking both strip and mat 12 years old now no problems still looks good moored outside all year round. If you do use it only use their adhesive's and do it in the warm weather, and leave the decking sheets in the sun to warm up before sticking down, you will need a weighted roller to squash it down tight to make a good seal you cant move it once it's down. Very pleased with it, one of the better buys i have bought. John

Hi The best solution for all (Except the person paying) would be to demolish it then rebuild it on modern foundations exactly as it is, BUT! with a higher arch clearance. I am not holding my breath on this solution as the person paying would have no benefit from this. John

Hi Karizma If no press available a hacksaw cut longitudinal will release the friction and make removing the cutlass bearing easy. John

Hi It's also good practice to smear brake grease on the inside of alloy wheels were they come in contact with the hub this stops them corroding to the hub and prevents easy wheel removal in the future. John
