Lead acid battery's self discharge over time this happens more/quicker if connected in a bank, you need a battery maintainer! be it shore power driven or solar for maintaining battery longevity. John
-
Hi If you have a solar panel connected to the battery bank this will keep the battery's in a fully charged condition through the winter months without having to connect to the grid/shore power or having to disconnect them over winter. Battery's last a lot longer if kept fully charged. John

Hi The trick with any infrequently used petrol fuelled carburettor engine is to not just switch off but to shut the fuel off then run at high revs to drain/use up the fuel in the carburettor to stop the engine, this will stop the jets from gumming up, their is no need to drain the fuel from the tank just tighten down the air valve in the cap. Hi 01 if using more than a electric heater at the same time un coil all of the cable as this can get hot and needs ventilation to stop it melting. John

There is a tv aerial called a Ballard from Wards of Brundel that dosn't need a pole. John

Hi Andrew the engine oil is changed each year(subject to hours run) its normal for gear boxes to be changed less frequent ie hours used (see manufactures recommendation, but oil level again each year, the drive belt for over head camshaft like wise has a hours/miles/max time for changes ,usely several years if you mean alternator/dynamo belt no time/hours run just check for cracks and general condition also adjustment. john

Sorry Amar i cant see your logic, how will you charge your battery's?. John

Hi Amar You would be better of having direct electric drive, it is not a good idea to have electric/hydraulic drive, with just electric you would only need one controller it would also be 20% more economical. John

The reason is the manufactures want you to take it to a main dealer for all maintenance items so they make it difficult for DIY and for non franchise garages, at one time different makes had the ADL socket wired differently to try and enforce this until the EU made all manufactures wire it up the same way if they wanted to sell in the EU, if they hadn't all non franchise garages would have needed a code reader for every different make they wanted to work on. Hi Kpnut My water heater/boiler heats the second coil to give hot water or can also heat the boat as well, second coil is heated by engine, also engine heat can be used to heat the boat when engine is running, saves on fuel by switching water heater of when cruising in winter by using engine heat then when moored we switch heater on to heat boat. I had a similar one with my son in law he took his Lexus in for a service at main agent they told him he needed new pads and disc's all round £700=00 fortunately he ran me, he bought it to me on Friday night i looked at it all it needed was a set of front pads £24=00 when he took it at next service no mention of brakes. had a similar one an old customer had bought a new Volvo took it to them until they told him he needed new brakes all it needed was new front pads customer now returned us. you should always go to your local friendly helpful garage when warranty is up, they may not have a posh waiting room with free coffee but you get value for money. It all depends on how you use the boat we have a twin coil as we often moor for several days and run the hot water tank coil from our water heater in the absence of shore power saves running engine just to heat the water and with solar to charge the battery's. John

It's all very well to expect the operator to remove articles BUT you only get 3/4 of an hour, it's amazing how you can get behind moving things, a cleanish vehicle with clean head lights and rear lens no mud or dog turds on the tyres, a empty interior always starts you of in a good mood, when you have to fail a vehicle for a split wiper blade it makes you wonder on the drivers ability. John
-
Before a MOT check tyre pressures, screen washer bottle, wiper blades for splits, AND if only used on short runs just before or on the way to MOT give the car/van a five mile run at speed 50/60 mph this will clear the catalyst in the exhaust and give a better result, and clean the interior of ???, they need to get at all seat belt anchorage's. It's most annoying to have to move coats rugs etc. John

Hi Griff Try turning the heater off before you switch engine off then when you start the heater wont come on, the relay relies on cold air blown from the fan to keep lt cool common fault in reno's and Vauxhalls relay gets hot before air reaches it when it starts on full. John

Hi As the cameras are wired through the ignition you have to start engine up before camera works i would have thought. John

Hi Clive I like the rear facing seat it will be great place to sit and chat at places like Womack and Ranworth, also safe area to sit and wait when coming in to moor, likewise the rear camera. John

Hi Unless you have a intelligent charging system on a multi bank battery pack the battery's will rarely get fully recharged which reduces the battery's life cycle. I use four lead acid 110A battery's in one bank and get three years use before they need replacing , they do get checked for electric-lite levels so some maintenance is necessary. Battery's also need to be kept fully charged before being left standing, a solar panel is very good for keeping them in a fully charged condition when boat not used. John

Hi Thermostats usely fail in open position, ie fail/safe. John

AS you only want a tempery job telegraph poles or similar will do the job Or why not borrow a cradle and winch it on rollers above the tide you can then work on it 24/7. John
-
Hi If you are half on and half off the slip way what ever you do you will be constrained by the height of tide when you return to your mooring perhaps a different mooring may be the best thing or ware you can moor side on against two upright pole's. John

Hi Micky tie two ropes from front of dingy with a loop in each end and fasten/hook each one to your stern cleats this will keep the dingy following in the middle of your transom and as you dont stern moor it wont get in the way you will need a fender to stop dingy bumping your stern for when you slow down/stop, ideally as close to your stern as possible, a little experimenting will get you the best position. Hi Micky Also in addition to what Vaughan said when you wire battery up take the pos cable from the first batty then the neg from the last battery, see dig. this spreads the load over all the battery's equally rather then just the first battery John
