  1. It's funny you mention air draft Simon, I thought much the same. So far as I can tell it's air draft is only 7', which is pretty good for a boat that looks incredibly roomy! Especially as the comparable Alpha CC is around 6'10 with the canopy down!
  2. Wow, she's beautiful Ray! Sadly I don't even mean Bounties of that age, I mean newer. I'm doing my best not to name the particular yard I mean lol
  3. That really would be troubling. The iconic Broadland scene to me is an old wooden cruiser in front of (insert any of a number of low bridges here), not a BA ranger in his fancy launch in front of another refurbished boathouse. I've noticed trends in speeding cruisers over a number of years, and it's funny to note that certain hire yards seem to be worse than others. Whether that's just because they perhaps have more boats than others is a matter for consideration though. And it certainly isn't a problem confined just to hire boats. It always strikes me as a little ironic; we head to the Broads to slow down and relax, yet there are some people who seem to like going everywhere at full throttle in a cloud of smoke, or trying to get a tired old Bounty up on the plane!
  4. I remember having great fun in a RHIB going through the wash of the IoW ferry out of Fishbourne!
  5. Blimey, can't be fun getting caught in the wash of them can it?!
  6. I'm also 5'9 and found much the same a couple of years ago actually. Fortunately the weather was clement enough to keep the canopy down most of the time! Many thanks for all input there. I'm thinking about having another week in October...might have to find one to hire!
  7. My mistake, I was under the impression that Lepto lead to Weil's. I think I've got confused as the bacteria that causes it is called Leptospira.
  8. My first solo trip was in 2015 and I had a little Sumatra from Wroxham, Brinks Sonata. I think I'd have given birth to a brick had I passed a coaster in that!
  9. I personally love the idea of dropping my mudweight on Salhouse and swimming ashore. In reality I'm not sure I would. In addition to the threat of Leptospirosis and the accompanying Weil's Disease there is also the risk posed by blue-green algae, especially in warmer weather. Also I don't want a pike to bite my bum.
  10. Thanks very much! I did wonder if it was the angle the photos are taken from. I'm only asking as I've seen one for sale (not that I am in any sort of position to be buying boats ) and the more I look at them the more I love them. Surprising as I've always thought if I bought a boat it would be an old Alpha 35 of 42.
  11. My dad assures me that when I was young we saw a coaster heading for Norwich. I wish I could remember because that must be a real sight!
  12. Apologies for what may be a very odd line of discussion... The boat named in the title (in service with a few yards; Conway Bridge, Brinks Benmore etc) looks lovely. But the helm position looks a little odd. Specifically what I'd like to know is if you've had opne of these boats, how did you find leg room for a long cruise? As it looks very cramped!
  13. Hi, I'm Chris. Not new to the Broads by any means; I'm 35 now and have managed at least one trip a year since before I can remember (except last year sadly)! Very excited to be heading back to in August for a week out of Silverline in Brundall (for a change from my usual base of Barnes in Wroxham). Looking forward to getting stuck in!
