  1. Not sure of his source, but my brother in law told me this morning that they'd let some leave last night. Apparently they were due a Friday start and were told initially to stay in the yard but were then told they could leave. As I say, not sure on the accuracy of that, nor the source.
  2. An interesting side effect of that was noticeable on South Walsham outer a couple of years ago. Myself, my dad and brother in law were all fishing. I was smashing them out for about 10 minutes and then it dropped off and all of a sudden my brother in law's rod went mad! The boat had turned and, although I 'm not certain of what was happening beneath the surface, he'd managed to hook into what ever group of fish I was into just before
  3. Just on BA's Facebook that they are investigating too having received the footage over the weekend.
  4. Great thanks; found some vague directions elsewhere and I actually ended up where you've indicated
  5. I've not come across Castle Moorings before, at least maybe not by that name, would you mind showing me on a map where it is they mean?
  6. I cannot for the life of me figure out why they'd feel the need to dump stuff out the side of a day boat?! Bin bag and dump it at the yard when you get back! Absolute clowns
  7. I did wonder how you'd create any sort of viable business there. There's no road access, very infrequent trains, and outside of tourist season you'd be very limited on boat traffic, which would have to be your primary custom. It's sad, but unless someone has money to sink into without needing to make a profit, I can't see how it would work as a pub or restaurant.
  8. I'd heard that on the grapevine, there was a hope it may breathe a bit of life into that site. What I'd heard was that it was going more along the lines of a bistro with a bar rather than just a pub.
  9. Sorry, for house read "house boat" or "boat house". There's very clearly something there on the sat imagery and the listing makes reference to a "dwelling that was once there".
  10. To me it reads like there is no planning in place already. The whole listing seems a bit off to me actually. Interestingly Google Maps still has the mentioned old house still there.
  11. I got supremely cheesed off a couple of weeks ago when I got my car insurance renewal through. I drive a fairly mundane 2012 BMW 320 diesel estate. I'm 35, have had my licence over 15 years and in that time I've never once claimed or even had so much as one speeding fine. They wanted over £800 for the year and seemed genuinely surprised that I wouldn't be accepting! All this from an insurer with, I've since seen, just about the lowest score of any insurer! I ended up with Hastings For £300 for the year. So no, it's not just you. I get properly annoyed with companies ramping up prices in the hope that you won't notice and just let it roll over
  12. I must say the only time I've ever been in was a good few years ago now, possibly around 2010 or possibly earlier. Me and my brother in law ducked in there to escape from our respective wives for an hour and the place really was run down.
  13. I've never seen that before, although I've never had reason to go to that part of the broad. Had to use Google Maps to have a look! Sent from the Norfolk Broads Network mobile app
  14. I'm inclined to agree. My dad, in his 60s and has been boating in Norfolk all his life, had never heard it called that either, and neither had I. Regardless of name, one of my favourite spots anywhere in the world. Sent from the Norfolk Broads Network mobile app
  15. Sorry, you are of course absolutely right, I got my inner and outer mixed up
  16. Crikey, is that the floating restaurant?!
  17. Now you've said that I recall getting confused by much the same thing a few years back!
  18. We've never got in at Rockland before, but then in the past I've only ever been in there with 42 footers! Short dyke had been another fall back, but I was hoping to get a couple of hours cruising in first. Until I actually know what time we're out the yard it's all moot really I suppose Anyway, I don't want to drag this off topic and away from the advice Simon needed!
  19. You're not alone Simon, I'm a little concerned about my first and last nights as I'm picking up from Brundall this year and I'm pretty worried due to the sparsity of moorings on the Southern Broads. I particularly like dropping the weight on South Walsham inner broad (AKA The Weirs). There are also a couple of decent size moorings on Fleet Dyke which leads onto the broads. Salhouse is always a favourite too. There's also a little room down the end of Womack, although I've seen it get very busy with people waiting for space on the staithe. More room on Malthouse (Ranworth) but again it gets busy with people waiting to moor up.
  20. BA no longer maintaining the moorings doesn't necessarily mean there are no longer any moorings there, so I wouldn't worry too much! All it means is that the BA no longer lease them. That is surprising though. Hopefully someone who's been up that way recently will be able to give a more definitive answer.
  21. Oh really? That's sad to hear. Beauchamp was more of a contingency than a first preference, it all depends on what time we leave the yard (in the same email I've been told not to arrive before 5pm, but also not to arrive any later than 4pm, although I suspect 5pm is the correct timing). Surlingham the wrong direction possibly, and my other half doesn't really like it there (Lord only knows why though). If we can get away early enough I'm still going to try to Loddon or Pye's Mill.
  22. I remember seeing a bouncy castle being accidentally launched from the Beauchamp Arms a number of years ago. The wind got under it and blew it into the river! We've stopped there once or twice, quite a handy spot after leaving Brundall late and was considering it for out first night in August as we can't leave the yard until 5pm, so I do hope it's still useable. There seem to be less and less places to moor down south
  23. Cracking picture. I always enjoy seeing the reed cutting at How Hill.
  24. Smiling ear to ear just reading through this thread, particularly the wonderful account in the original post!
  25. We actually hired one of Silverline's bigguns later in the season, but none of us dared broach the subject with the yard! I heard a similar story though, a part of the piling had come away and the skipper had swiped it on the aft below the waterline. I had heard that she was resting on the bottom and had indeed properly sunk! As for last season, Hoseasons have her listed as "new in" this year, so it would appear she definitely didn't cruise last year. Given Silverline turn their boats out immaculately and that they build their own too I have absolutely no worries about taking her this year. Especially as there doesn't seem to be many of those 29 footer Alpha CCs around.
