  1. Pinched from a totally different forum, a photo from Spain taken yesterday
  2. No dust or sand in Melton Mowbray, It’s been tipping down with rain since 1 o clock, still, doesn’t look like I’ll be mowing the lawn at the weekend as it’s got about an inch of water on it as I type
  3. In my search for a boat, live already noticed that there is not much for sale( in my price range). what appear to be nice boats are under offer pretty sharpish. is it too early in the year? ive been to look at two boats, 1st was a Broom 30 up at Thorne nr Doncaster, up at just under £30 k. on stepping aboard I could smell the damp and rot, the windows were leaking, all of the lining woodwork was rotten under the decks, the timber work above the windscreens was delaminating and rotten, I managed to lift the floor above the port side shaft and the bilges were full of water. To cut a long story short, on commenting to the broker about it,and suggesting it was well overpriced, HE AGREED WITH ME!! so 5 hr round trip,£40 of fuel wasted. The good thing to come out of it was,I liked the layout and style of the broom 2nd boat was a steel Dutch cruiser , same price, nice condition,BUT, the interior had been ripped out and “ remodelled “, so not for me. im interested to hear people’s views on the boat market this year, I have read and have observed the hike in prices throughout the COVID/lockdown period with all things leisure related ,I wonder what this year will bring, I’ll hope for a bit of a reset with prices, but won’t hold my breath. In the meantime,I’ll keep searching
  4. I’m not bothered about a bit of thread hijack, keeps things interesting, some great photos as well
  5. My 1st boat, I bought a 1961 mk1 Freeman 30 from popes corner (fish and duck?) after some servicing etc I cruised out of kings lynn, Puttered about on the wash then into Boston up the witham, and the fosdyke. iirc it took about 3 days. as I motored out of torksey the port side prop coupling failed. so I had to limp up to Cromwell lock on one motor. took a bit longer than expected as I was nursing the remaining engine. was a fine introduction to boating
  6. Maybe coastal hops from river systems at some time,so would prefer twin motors. most likely use, depending on where I find my boat will be broads, and river Trent ( I had experience of a shaft failure entering the tidal Trent having crossed the wash the previous day,it was a bit unnerving, lol) I’d consider a single engine, but only with a bow thruster,(which is unlikely on a boat of this age I guess) this would be a more likely scenario on a Dutch cruiser with a bigger single engine 60+ hp
  7. I think I’ve narrowed down my boat search, im hoping to find a very nice ,broom 30.(aft cabin) my wish list. twin engines, well maintained,(loved) regular use. im also not adversed to the green topside ones or, a Dutch steel cruiser, such as a Pedro 30/33 or similar must have a bow thruster though if single engine. maybe a pontoon neighbour or family friend , anything spring to mind?
  8. Hmmm, I get that , but surely a lot of the water in the broads must be salt water? unless I’ve completely misunderstood the need for booms at potter Hw or is that a different thing completely?
  9. I’m a newbie on here, but, live been reading up on historical threads and one thing that strikes me is, there is a lot of chat about river levels, high tides ,flooding etc etc, so my question, would it not be possible to build a sea lock at Yarmouth? it could be built with a hydro electric scheme ( given the volume of water flowing) Water levels could be controlled better perhaps. As I said, forgive me if it’s just plain silly but I’ve been pondering all day mike
  10. Could be tempted to part with it these boats don’t come cheap ,it would appear
  11. I’ve been thinning the pack down, saving pennies for a nice cruiser, still got this one though.
  12. Can I join in? ive got my , colchester bantam lathe, a small milling machine mig welding kit, pillar drills media blasting cab wet/ vapour blasting cab. 50 cfm rotary vane compressor. here’s a work in progress
  13. I don’t mind a bit of travel to view, I need to see as many examples as I can so I know what to look for, trouble is,there’s none to view
  14. hi all, mikeyboy here, currently without a boat but hopefully something suitable will turn up soon. I live in Melton Mowbray, but lived in Martham as a kid, I have always enjoyed coming back to Norfolk ,and more recently have rented broads cruisers . im currently searching the brokers and classified adverts for a nice Broom 30 but they seem thin on the ground(water)at the present time, I did go to view one at Thorne near Doncaster at the weekend, I was a bit disappointed that the boat was clearly overpriced with a lot of rotten internal wood and bilges full of rainwater, even the broker agreed the vessel was £10k over, given the work needed. anyway rant over I’ll keep popping in to keep up to date. mike
