  1. No Gav, that's something totally different
  2. The mobile number I have is 07747692181 and the chaps name is Pat Payne. A friend who's judgment I respect had a couple of stainless props repaired by him a few weeks back and was very pleased with both the service and cost. He is also a stainless fabricator. I'm not sure if he deals with ally props though, so that might be worth asking! I haven't personally used him, but did send all 4 of Serenity's ally props off to Steel Developments last year and, same as Perry, was very happy with the service they provided too. It's just a bit of a pain boxing up 4 props!!
  3. Why would they need to raise their rods Gav? Unless the river was very shallow or they had cast right over to the opposite bank, there should be no need. Just how many rods did you drag along the river with you??
  4. That's my understanding yes. The tube pushes through from inside and then in clamped in place by the metal riser, though I have not seen it with my own eyes. With regard to the prop refurb, Steel Developments are very good IMHO, but I also know of someone who recommends a chap in Caister in Norfolk. LEt me know if you want his contact details at all.
  5. Wait a minute, did Neil just use "stunning" and "birchwoo" in the same sentence? That's nearly as daft as using "young" and "Wayne" in the same one too
  6. Glad it's progressing well! With regard changing exhaust bellows etc., I didn't bother either as they looked in good condition and are muc hless critical than the drive bellows. Similarly I didn't changed the pick-up tubes either as these are near impossible to do in my engine bay and would have resulted in having to remove an engine I suspect. They have to be withdrawn from inside due to the swaged end. One point to note, carefully check the fitting where the pickup pipe joins onto the drive. The earlier ones are metal, but the later ones, like mine, are plastic and very easy to break. We cracked them on both my drives simply laying the drive down wrong and had to replace them. Lastly, the plastic bushes for the pivot pins should always be replaced as a matter of course.
  7. That's the bugger!!!
  8. A good read indeed Neil! Also rest assured your kind donation to the forum funds made it's way safely to Brian for banking.
  9. We've got one of those pumps, which also pulses on and off when the tap in the heads is used as anything less than full bore. It's never caused us a problem though as the flow of water is constant, so I've just left it be. Are you sure that's not how it's meant to work?
  10. Don't worry Neil, other half is a nurse so we have a full stock of medicinals! A liberal coating of antiseptic was applies to the little cut.
  11. Looking at the damage, the swan would be my guess Jimbo!
  12. I decided to feed the swans whilst mud-weighted on Surlingham Broad this morning. Trouble is, Daddy swan preferred living flesh to bread!!

    Arrival Day?

Please, please, please do make sure anyone walking around the decks always wears their life jackets, whether moored or underway. This is especially important for the kids but also when mooring up. A bump against the bank if you are not used to handling a boat will easily catapult anyone outside into the drink if they are not expecting it. It doesn't matter how strong a swimmer you are, no one can swim against a 3-4 knot tide at Yarmouth, and if you bang your head on the way in, you ain't gonna be swimming! At least one person dies almost every year on the broads, and there has already been one fatality of a holidaymaker this year. No-one wants any more.

    Arrival Day?

Hi Tre I can only echo what has already been said, but also I thought I'd read a thread on here a few days ago that mentione the food department in Lathams has been increased in size, so you may not need to go to Stalham for the Tesco's on your arrival. If you are planning to eat out most nights, you may find you will need to moor fairly early to get a space as you are in the height of the busy season. It's just as nice to moor away from the pubs sometimes, and have a quient BBQ. Just make sure when using the disposable BBQ's that they are sat on something that won't burn on the bank, not directly on the grass or wooden quayheading as they scorch badly; and certainly not on the boat! (Yes, we have seen BBQ's being placed in the lid of a gas locker ). Also, if you were to moor in Fleet dyke at the entrance to Salhouse Broad, or at Ranworth Staithe, there is also a Chinese in South Walsham that will deliver to your boat! Have a great time.
  15. Plan B is the one we adopted, with the jack on a piece of board under the skeg, so the drive could just be rolled out backwards.
  16. Just to clarify Strowy, mine are the DP-D1 variant. If yours are from 1989 they may have the reversing latch mechanism that mine do not have. I think I'm right in saying the DP-C variant didn't have this either, but I'm not sure what sort of date the change occurred.
  17. Lol, well at least you have them Strowy. As I had never removed drives before I thought a bit of a blow-by-blow would be a good aide-memoir for next time!
  18. Strowy I have a set of photos I took when removing my legs (the very first time I had done it) earlier this year to replace my drive bellows. I thought it might be handy for anyone else to see what the bits look like if attempting for the first time. I can't post the link here, nor cross post it as the thread is on another forum, and cannot PM you as you have it disabled. If you want to take a look at it, you'll have to PM me.
  19. Not sure that's right David. With all due respect, Gav has created a new thread, not cut and paste from members, about a subject that affects all members full or otherwise. Any non-full member could have done the same thing after receiving the email about the new limit, and as far as I can see there is nothing in the post that isn't general knowledge anyway. Personally I have no problem with the 25 message limit, but having spoken to administrators from some other forums, it does seem rather low, with the norm being more like 50-100. Luke, I never knew the "delete old messages" option existed, but I do now!!! Many thanks!

  22. Dear Salties, Sue and I have decided we are going to have to pull out of the full London trip as we now find ourselves in the middle of a house purchase, and therefore finances are going to be a lot more stretched than we imagined. We are thinking we will still be going out but probably staying up around the Orwell whilst you all go to the smoke, and then maybe pick up with you again later in the trip on your return legs.
  23. Ooops! Shows how much I know, I thought it was on the Orwell!!
