Guest
Although I guess there must be quite a few specialists around the Broads, the two that I know of are Tony Burfield and Trevor Preece, both based at Brundall. If you Google the names, with "windows", then their contact details should come up. As for price, make sure you're sitting down when you get it. It's a highly specialist job, and for an average sized boat with aluminium framed windows, it would be hundreds... (and maybe even 4 figures ! )
Guest
I got quoted £1500 a little to steep for us Jonny
Antares_9
That doesn't sound too bad for a proper job Jonny, if it's done right then all the windows will ahve to be removed, everything cleaned up and then rebedded. As the windows will be out for a while then it would likely be taking up workshop space too and that's at a premium.
Guest
so thats sounds a good offer then we might take it up if thats the case. Jonny

Guest
I paid rather more than £1,500 to get Blue Macaw's windows resealed, but it was well worth it - it's a professional job which helps maintain her value (and has kept us dry in bed for the last couple of years!). We had ours done by Brooms' on-site subcontractor, who I suspect is one of the two mentioned earlier in the thread. Bruce
Antares_9
£1500 is only good value if it's done right though Jonny, not by Messrs Bogit and Pray up some fetid dyke somewhere.
Guest
Trever Preece is the name usually quoted whenever I ask about Windows. I think he does the work for Brooms so probably did Bruce's.
Mowjo
Jonny! is that price just to re-seal the windows, i.e take out the Ali frames and re-bed them with mastic or does that include all new rubber seals and stuff, because I re-bedded all the windows on my Seamaster 813 using mastic tape in one day, including cleaning all the old mastic off the windows and frames, and that lot cost me less than £25, so £1500 seems a hell of a lot for that job, Have you had a word with Jason at Ludham, I believe he does them, Regards Frank,,
Dan
Richardsons are good at windows Jonny if that's not where the quotes come from Dan
mbird
I did one of the windows on Tranquil Breeze where we had a leak. It had been caused by something hitting one of the vertical mullions, but instead of doing the job properly, a previous owner had simply gobbed a load of mastic in, which needless to say didn't work. I had to get a new section of mullion cut, took the window out (it had to be the biggest one at over 8' long), dismantled the frame, reassembled it with the new mullion and rebedded it on marine frame sealant. Bob's your uncle no more leak and only a days work. £1500 does sound steep, but then if you are paying for workshop space then I suppose that all adds up. TeamElla
jonny, How many windows are you having resealed. We paid around that price for 13 windows (and ours were completely "shot" needing complete dismantling and replacement rubbers plus some mechanical repair work before refitting/sealing in place). BK Windows in Brundall Steve p.s. one of the most satisfying improvements to date - it's nice to be dry, totally dry (and I have a video to prove it!) Guest
well from the look of ours they have shrunk & starting to crack no chunks have come out as of yet but i dont know what i am looking for unlike some. Gordon
Hi Jonny, Thats one big price you have been quoted,I have no ideas what such a job would cost but such a figure does not surprise me, there are a lot of windows to remove. Do they really all need doing? are they leaking and if so is it the mastic round the frames or the rubbers . I reckon there are loads of ways water can get in a Calypso and believe it would be impossible to kep it all out. We get gallons from condensation alone . I assume you have had a word with Chris. Hi Gordon i totaly agree I have been told the windows are find even you can see a little cracking but i have no idea if its in good condition apparently thats just normal but the only way to get rid of condensation is a good dehumidi & good ventilation the only thing if when the wind gets up you can feel a little draft where the sliding window closes & there is some play in the window when you wobble it. if thats the case i might as well with my little rainy day fund sort out the galley i have been in touch with Jason Hatch at LBBY & sounds promising i will also be giving Richo's a call to see what they come up with. well least one job will get done least this way out galley wont look Naff Jonny
Gordon
well least one job will get done least this way out galley wont look Naff Proof of the galley is in the eating. Seriously it is nice if you can get a job done that actually improves the boat rather than having to shell out funds just for repair. Hope it goes well for you
