Grp Patching

Hi folks,

 

Can anyone recommend a product for GRP patching?

It’s only for our runaround dinghy where the gel coat is damaged in a few places so I’m not too concerned what it looks like.

It’s more than cracks, the gel coat is missing in a few places. The biggest is maybe two square inches.

Plastic Padding do a gel coat filler that I have used on a few bits n bobs around my boat, seems to do a decent job but never used it on anything external......yet

Can anyone see what the difference is between these? I can’t. Seems to be the same product from the same seller at different prices.

Had a good look but I can't see any differences??

It isn't obvious, but some of these also have chopped glass fibre mixed in, although, being described as gelcoat, that infers the topcoat.

You just need the gelcoat filler to get the job done.  The PP stuff is fine but be prepared for a lot of rubbing down.  I used it to patch a small gelcoat chip in 2004 and I needed an electric sander to get it smooth.  It dries very hard, even in winter!

Cheaper one ordered.
I’m not too worried about the finish so smoothish with a spreader is probably good enough. It’s left upside down on the bank for a lot of it’s life.
