Reduced Fuel at Boulters

You say perhaps cheeky, but if you hire a car do fill the tank up at the cheapest petrol station closest to the hire companies base - or pay way over the odds for them to do it for you?

For a long time there has not been the greatest of benefits filling up at other yards  - say you hired from Richardson's and topped up at Herbert Woods at the end of the holiday you would pay just as much in Potter Heigham as 'back at base'.

Interestingly last time I hired on my return in reception someone has only 'used' £6.00 worth of fuel in a week they joked with the customer but clearly were not most pleased giving back £144.00 of their fuel deposit monies.

Let's say I hired a boat and used 100 litres of fuel in a week presuming I had paid a £150.00 fuel deposit so upon my return paying what is commonly chraged at most yards (£1.40 a litre) I'd get a £10.00 refund.

If I re-fuelled at Boulters,  I'd be going home with £40.00 in my pocket. That alone is my return train fares if I book in advance - it all adds up.

I'll tell you who though would be the most annoyed if too many people began to do this - of course the boatyards loosing extra revenue on fuel sales, but I am sure private moorers' would not be too happy to know a great number of hire boats coming and going out of what is a very tight space at Boulters.  It's while you never see me talk or promote this as an option in a Blog, keep it 'on the low' ;)
