  1. Thanks Andy away at present on east coast.hoping to get to London later this week
  2. Strict attention to buoyage is indeed paramount Some info in this link Ian viewtopic.php?f=37&t=2948&hilit=east+coast&start=140 and the next page Deben Chartlet http://www.eastcoastrivers.com/pdfs/Deben-April-09.pdf
  3. Thanks Dan, You know what they say about the sun shining on the righteous
  4. Perfect if you have a swing keel as one of the club members did at the Wrabness BBQ at the weekend. They moored their Southerly to a buoy that drys at LW and just took the ground. They were even giving the 'bottom' a scrub a low water... saves going to scrubbing posts
  5. I am pretty sure evaluative is what Bruce refers to as Matrix which could also be called honeycomb, segment metering, or esp just to confuse things further. Evaluative Metering is your cameras standard metering mode which is a 'standard setting'. It is will handle most subjects including those that are back lit. The camera will assess the subject's position in the viewfinder; record the brightness of the general scene, front and rear lighting conditions and also the orientation of the camera (horizontal or vertical). It will then set the correct exposure based on all of this information.
  6. You clearly made the best of the day Simon; it would have taken half a life time to shoot those in the wild and while often pooh poohed by some photographers I think Zoo's and wildlife parks make excellent venues for some differing photography. Banham seems to have it all. Some of the Falconry displays offer super opportunities to capture excellent images of various birds of prey you would virtually never get under normal circumstances. Thanks again for sharing them
  7. Nice work Simon. I'm sure you converting these to Black & White will have made them work better. There is a more stark feeling that suits the subject matter. Looks like the SW end of the Kent Coast to me
  8. I have a mini tripod sourced but funnily I was going to pick your technical brain this weekend on a way of fixing it to shelf facing the front screen securely enough to capture underway. HD video Footage could be potentially interesting
  9. Thanks a million Pete. To you probably Janet & John but to a Tech Numpty like me invaluable With just one click......
  10. Thanks all for you compliments. I really should take the SLR but have to admit after taking a Canon AE1 to sea many years ago that expired due to internal corrosion that I am a little paranoid. I do find for quick snaps particularly while helming the Ixus P&S is very handy. It has some limited manual settings but not enough to be any good in more challenging light or conditions but is often the difference between getting a snap for this thread and not. Perhaps I should start taking both
  11. Thanks Mark, I was pleased considering it is a P&S Ponky it was him 'upstairs' that chose to light up the stinky, the flappy things appear in the shade
  12. Thanks for recounting it Geoff And the weather we organised for you wasn't bad was it
  13. Thanks Pete for pointing me in the right direction I can manually adjust the size in the code my external host provides.
  14. Thanks Pete, I've read your formula; I'm now off for a lie down in a darkened room Where would the photo link go in that lot I will then have a go
  15. Thanks Pete that clarifys things. So does that mean for those of us that are using external hosts for images saving some server space could have the same image width as those posting direct to the site?? please
  16. Not sure Mark, When I tried to post some at 1024 wide last night I got an error message same 'image over 1000 pixels wide'
  17. Very good Ian Just proves I should have taken the SLR
  18. Any chance we can move the maximum image width from 1000 pixels to 1024? My offline storage provider (and I think a number of others) go from 800 pixels for Large image and 1024 for XLarge. At 800 the images are sometimes not large enough to do the image justice particularly when it is a Landscape image (portrait is less of an issue) As these are linked to offline storage it would not use the sites storage. There may of course be a good reason why it can't be done
  19. Dawn 04.15am At around 5.00am on Sunday the wind increased to 20knots and with a mud bank as a lee shore 100meters away I watched out to confirm our anchor would hold as we yawed on the wind. I shouldn't have worried the Delta was rock solid. It poured with rain the wind continued until 7.00am when the sky started to appear and the wind dropped and another very pleasant day arrived. The sun starts to shine on the righteous Altogether a 'proper' boating weekend
  20. The sun cooled by the breeze was very deceiving and by the end of the day we knew it had been sunny. We dined on Kiki in the evening and took in the peace and tranquillity watching a super sunset Quite unusual sky (best I could do with a P&S on Hi ISO) How I wished I had taken my SLR if only to do justice to this one
  21. For a hint of realism I shouted "mind your wash" Visitors but a bit far away for a Point & Squirt
  22. A couple for Poppy Yotties are friendly Traditional including the Skippers shirt
  23. We anchored OK after David had changed from a Brittany Pattern to a Plough I had changed my Danforth for a Delta both changed Anchors performed admirably in the fresh sea breeze averaging 12-14 knots. Kinfisher Kiki Our new made up Anchor Snubbers worked a treat Peaceful
