  1. Widgeon was built by J.Loynes & Sons in the 1950s .... as far as I am aware there was just one of them. She was 20 feet in length with a 7ft 6" beam (see brochure entry from 1969 below). She was up for sale for ages a couple of years ago having supposedly undergone a full restoration with just finishing to the interior needed. The price kept going down, and down, and at one point we were sorely tempted! Looking at her out of the water now she appears to be in need of some TLC! She is a little cutie though! Carol

    Carol. Hi

Here's what James had to say when I sent him the old brochure earlier today:

    thanks for this John

lovely boat, but she keeps sinking :-(

she needs quite a bit spending on the hull as she's sadly been bodged a few times

    cheers

    James

  2. :wave hi all it actually worries me that we no longer pay boatyard for propellor damage, one boatyard told us that if it's us that breaks it ,then we'd have to pay to get it fixed, that sounds reasonable lori

What?? If the propeller breaks due to hitting something then that's just a fact of life. I just don't see how you can be blamed, Lori, let alone charged....... :o:o:o

    It sounds anything but reasonable.....

  3. I think the only way to put a real stop to this sort of thing happening again is to catch the scum and throw them in the river. Rant over. Regards ...................... Neil. P.S........ Friday is only 4 days away :party::party::party:

    Peferably attached to a mud-weight, Neil??? :naughty::naughty::naughty:

You do tell it like it is, don't you? :clap:clap:clap

    CU soon! cheersbar

  4. John, thats a good enough reason to come then :naughty:

Funnilly enough, this logged me in with no change to the password!

    Will try the laptop later.

Incidently, the Yarmouth times are not too kind unless you get up

really early or finish cruising late! Thursday seem the day we will

make our way down. And, I will have the laptop with me!!

    Bill, Hi

We've just decide we'll be arriving on Thursday too; so it will be good to meet up. cheersice slice

But we're only coming from Geldeston............ so we might get there a bit before you! :naughty::naughty::naughty:

PS it's daylight by 4am and the slack water time at GH will be 06.23 (it's LW+1.30, not +1.00); so plenty of time from Acle?

  5. And there was I talking to Allan David (quay ranger) just last Wenesday and he told me that they'd had only one case last year and none this.............

Only goes to re-emphasise that we only moor on Riverside Sun-Wed nights.... :naughty:

    Or Wednesday............... :bow:bow:bow

  7. It got closer.....

    post-508-136713824307_thumb.jpg

And slowed down to displacement speed as it passed by,,, but if I hadn't turned across its wake anything loose would have gone over!

(It did have a "Speed limit exempt" sign onboard!)

The Beauchamp Arms wasn't too busy...

    post-508-136713824366_thumb.jpg

But there were a few boats tied up at Cantley

  8. Neil, Hi

That's why I wasn't too bothered... we'd signed up with Boulters for exactly that...

    As I said:

"OMG, something's round the prop", I calmly said... (remembering that we'd taken out not only the breakdown service but also the diver option, with Boulters last week! :) :) :)

  9. It will also depend on whether you've got a long or short shaft outboard.

And, as Ian says, you really need to set it up on the tender to check the parameters he refers to. I can see how the straps will hold the bracet onto the boat and you'll need to cut off the bottom bit so that it's not below the boat bottom, say 10ins.

The bit above will be dependent on your shaft length; so I'd cut the bottom first and then offer the mounting up to the tender... perhaps even strap it on. Then you can see where to cut the top section off.

  10. It finally happened................

Leaving Norwich this morning we saw the Thorpe Railway Bridge at 8+ft............ :clap:clap:clap

I'd already intended to take us down the old river to show Mary-Jane some potential moorings............ (never plan ahead?)...... and so I turned under the bridge....

The bottom was quite clear but suddenly the engine revs reduced coupled with that awful vibration..............

"OMG, something's round the prop", I calmly said... (remembering that we'd taken out not only the breakdown service but also the diver option, with Boulters last week! :):):)

"I think we can make the moorings", I told Mary-Jane, throttling back to idle; this reduced the vibration but stopped the forward progress.. so what to do?

Probably NOT in the manual of "things to do" but I put her into reverse and gave a quick burst of power... initially sluggish but then, quite quickly, free. Mary-Jane had walked to to the transom and called that a white plastic bag had surfaced astern and was away from us...

"Half speed ahead and all's well" were our happy sentiments..........

That called for a glass of celebration wine (at 11.00)

Now at the ferry House (hic) and mightily relieved! cheersice slice

  11. I can understand the problems of running these places and the large overheads and we have been out a couple of times this week and very quiet.Last night four of us went to the Wayford Bridge and had a meal and was in there for two and a half hours we were the only ones eating and I don't think I saw any one other than staff. You can imagine the costs of every thing and they must have felt like going home but were very attentive and we had a good night . cheersbar

    Roy and Diane, Good Evening.

Off topic (as usual!) but the Wayford Bridge is about to get a good shaking up...... :naughty::naughty::naughty:

We were talking with Marco a few weeks ago and when he's finished with the Lavenham Angel he intends to start on the Bridge. He is going to (quote) "Turn it into the best Fish Pub in Norfolk"

    We await the outcome.................
