What does it do, Jonny, please?
-
Hi all,
Not sure if this is in the right place! please move if wrong.
Thing is, I have a big mod to do over Easter and wonder which is your favourite chandlery on the Broads, am based in Brundall but willing to travel (by car).
Normally use Wroxham Marine.
I am scraping a Thetford 400 porta loo (does anyone want one) and fitting a Jabsco electric one with new waste and water tanks.
Paul
Ps any tips more than welcome.
Wow, Paul, that's some "mod" to do over Easter!
I think Mark has pretty well covered it, though I always check out the caravan shops before buying from a chandlers!
Gt Yarmouth Caravans isn't far from you and they have a very good shop: http://www.gtyarmouthcaravans.co.uk/

Simon, Hi
I always admired Paul and Lorna when they (bravely?) moored at Loddon... that would certainly be on my list of places NOT to start from, particularly in the "mad" season!
You may say I'm a wimp but the sight of some of those (hopefully) hire-boats barrelling towards us at anything but 4mph in the tighter stretches of the Chet sends shivers through me!
-
for that ive just been on compass24 site and they are doing an offer of 2 x for 79.90 any idea where they are based John
They're a German firm, Dave and very efficient too!
Based in England and we've never had a problem with them. On the one occasion we used it their return service was first class.
-
Dave, Hi
I use Compass24 as they're giving free p&p at the moment.
Concur with David re size.

What happened to her, Jill?

having just read the remarks, it sounds to me like the government are playing dirty, it sounds like they are trying to move all the industry to the london area to make THEM more money , & as usual don't give a monkeys about the rest of the country,& it sounds like they are just making excuses to shut other ports.it's the same with chesterfield they've shut about 6 firms around here & most of the work has gone abroad, & they've built tescos on some of the sites, we've now got 5 tescos, which is ridiculous, who needs THAT many tescos ? lori
Lori, Hi
The "government" didn't force anybody to either build the harbour or to use, or not use, it.
In fact it wasn't even this government you can blame....
And how does it make more money to move industry to London???
And no-one can surely blame the government for Tescos expansions???
Personally I think we should keep politics out of the Forum.............

jill
Jill, Hi
You'll be able to get out now?
-
Or the Thai Restaurant wants to try out their Junk!
-
The outer harbour is not busy at all.
Paul
Quo Vadis says: "It is really busy w44nty with windmill service and construction craft"
Which one is it, please?
-
Do please try, Iain!

Hey Anty boy , why is this old one not removaled to the Joking area??? Like mine poor shipping story
Probably because it's about a remarkable piece of engineering expertise and not a school-boy joke?

Nice to see that Swancraft are still looking to put ALL-Broads boats out!!!
Yes, I know, "it's what the public wants" (glorified 'gin-palaces'). And no, I'm not criticising the Salties, they make their choice for entirely different reasons.
But to miss out on all the parts of The Broads you can get to with 6ft6ins or so airspace seems to negate the idea of what its all about...
-
Seems like 2011 will be a good year for being down south, away from the 'madding crowd' so to speak
Dave
Exactly, Dave. And why, I guess, the Northern Meet is held in May, when it's not quite so frenetic!
-
Absolutely! Before we had a boat, Dan, we used to leave our hols until a week before we went........
Then we would find whatever we could, often at massive discounts!
-
I guess I wouldn't, Dan....but... you can't guarantee that you'd get what you wanted!

Hiya Hockham Admiral...
Any thoughts on the best (and easiest) place to moor up for our first night? I did think about heading down to Stokesby to the Ferry Inn but we wouldn't arrive until about 6pm or slightly later and risk no moorings left. So my other plan was just to head down to Ludham? Or my third option was the easiest of the lot and just pop down to Thurne and stay around there for the night.
Iain, Hi
Well, yes!
A bit further, but if you contact HW asap you could ask if you might pick her up a bit earlier (shouldn't be a problem at this time of year). And here we will be:
http://www.thenorfolkbroads.net/phpBB3/ ... 29&t=10068
About 2.5 hours from Potter but lots of friendly folk to help you moor up on your first night! You won't miss us as the NBN burgee will be flying on several boats!
Here's a pic from last year:

Crime
in Broads Chat
When Mary-Jane had a classic Lotus Elan I fitted a kill switch which immobilised the ignition. (although this wouldn't have stopped it being trailered away).
Similarly it doesn't take too much ingenuity to fit a 'secret' switch of some sort into the fuel or starting systems on a boat! (if you're that concerned).
On the Norfolk Broads I'd say you could only steal a boat if you had a wet shed you could hide it in until you erased all traces of it's past history. Even then our Jonny would most probably eventually suss you out!

Interesting, though with Herbert Woods leaving Blakes I would expect demand with their remaining yards to be massively up as their remaining customers have less to choose from, so it should have done them a noticeable favour even if some left and booked away from Blakes some will have chosen from who's left.
I wonder what percentage the Hoseasons yards (who are not affected by this major change) are running at, and how Herbert Woods bookings are running in comparison to this point last year.
Dan
Dan, Hi
I see from HW's brochure that they're offering quite a few discounts on various dates: http://www.herbertwoods.co.uk/news.php
I wonder how much do Blakes take for their cut of the hire fee? It must be significant if HW can offer such enticing terms!
While HW are offering discounts up to 30% the only offer on the Norfolk Broads I can find in Blakes' brochure today is 5%...

Iain, welcome aboard!
Just had a look at Gliding Light's brochure and she does look the part!
You won't have too much trouble with reversing as the helm position is excellent for aft view and if you have a bow-thruster you will find it relatively easy! (if you remember to move the control Left when you want your stern to move Right!
When are you coming for your hols?
-
hi ian just a little note on mooring, always remember you can drive backwards but you can't steer backwards, just keep that in mind if you ever have to reverse to moor up.just drive it forward straighten it up THEN reverse it back, & take it slowly. lori
Unless you have a bow-thruster, lori! (or wait a significant time until your helm affects the course)

Welcome aboard, Mark!
Just what sort of help can you offer, please?
Oops, sorry! Just scrolled down to Jill's other topic with your website enclosed....
