  1. Next Thursday is the big day,we will get everything ready for an early start,we are loooking to leave Ranworth about 6:30am and stop for breakfast at Great Yarmouth, then cross Breydon for the journey to Thorpe.

If you are out and about next Thursday you might see Rosie on our epic journey.

It's the 13th, Mate... but the Very Best of Luck! :naughty::naughty::naughty:

  2. I am afraid that if it is not a loose lead, Much as I hate spending money, I would invest in paying someone who knew how the charging system worked to check it out, or at the very least be doing some serious reading on charging systems and having a chat to Sealine to find out how it is wired.

I can't agree more as these new electrical management systems can be a nightmare for an amateur. However I'd still take up Mark's kind offer first!! :clap:clap:clap

difficult to pinpoint anything definite Adam, but try the simple stuff first. Check all the wires that were disconnected when I removed the dud battery have been put back on (I remember there were 4 negative leads on the one terminal on the knackered battery), just incase one had dropped behind the battery box.

If you want me to pop over with my voltmeter any time Adam, just let me know and at least we could try to find anything simple.

  3. It was lovely seeing Adam skipping along the pontoon this morning singing "supercallyfragilisic" etc etc he must have thoroughly enjoyed his dvd last night. Anyhoo it looks like the Coldham Hall clan can now rest easy as the master is there with the tickets, but perhaps it wont be looked upon as a " pipe and slippers " any more because the mighty NERAIDA forged a passage through with the help of the WHOOMPERS from Quo Vadis,Blownaway,Laura Jane and NOT LE Grand Chew.!!!! Mark now being the foremost authority on Whoomping was there to watch and learn and also jumped ship before crossing said palms with silver. Hope all manages to get to their destinations this nye and makes the most of it. Are we right in assuming reedham bridge will open new years day?

    cheersbar

Any chance any of you WHOMPERS can come down to Bells in the morning to help???

  4. Lovely stuff, but the Moron that fitted it had cut the sheath of the mains flex with a knife at the butt, exposing all three copper cores. This was on every termination, so the "electrician" had never been taught the basics of how to strip back to the butt, rather than cut direct. Luckily there was sufficient slack loop for me to re-terminate correctly, without having to re-run new cables.

What a shocking story! (So sorry, that wasn't an intentional one :naughty::naughty::naughty: ).

When we bought Friday Girl a year ago I installed several new 240V sockets and wired in the immersion heater. I then had a friend who is a qualified electrician run a check on it and he passed it all as safe and, if anything, over-engineered!

  5. The ice in St. Olaves marina is also still 2 to 3 inches thick but seems a lot softer and easier to break now. We were thinking of tying an old wreck to the bow of one of our little flotilla heading for Surlingham ferry NYE. Luckily it looks like someone has abandoned a tub called Le Grand Cru, we'll use that. :naughty:

Do you know something you're not telling us?

  6. Just back from Brundall where I went to prepare Friday Girl for NYE... couldn't get onboard as she was surrounded by ice 2-3ins thick; so I couldn't pull her in to the pontoon... :naughty::naughty::naughty:

Doesn't look good for Coldham Hall at the moment and it's very foggy there (and forecast to stay so) with the temperature about 2degs... :cry:cry:cry

  7. "On a separate but related subject we have now decided to abandon our NYE trip as our moorings at Stalham were completely frozen in last week when I was up there and as there has been no radical increase in temperatures since then the prospect of getting out look pretty grim."

    :

With the temps about or just above freezing, perhaps you might reconsider? At Brundall the marina is now OK. :wave:wave:wave

  8. Hi All,

This has played a big part in my descison not to rely on shore power but to fully winterise the boat.

Having said that winterisation is a fairly easy task for my boat. Maybe a lot more difficult on your boats.

    Rod

    Rod, Hi

I completely agree with that. Here in Gt Hockham, just 20 miles from Brundall (as the crow flies) we had temps consistantly down to -9 to -10 overnight recently. I'm not too sure that a small greenhouse heater would have sufficed anyway.....

  9. Thought it was about time I joined the Forum as a way of actually talking to my other half.

Lucky enough to count lots on here as friends already but look forward to making lots more.

    Heather :wave:wave

Welcome, Heather..... you actually talk??? :naughty::naughty::naughty:

  10. Hello we have a fairline turbo 36 with tamd 60b 235hp engines

I have been told that I should get about 1.5mpg at about 16 knots.

Does anyone have any knowlege on this hull and engine set up to confirm this. The waterline hull length is 36ft and 13.4 beam planing hull and weighs around 11 tonnes when loaded.

    cheers Barry

    Barry, Hi

    To give you an idea, our Antares 760, with the 200bhp TAM-D 41P, used 27L/hr at 15kts... i.e. 2.5nmpg. (LWL 23ft and 9.5ft beam weighing 3.5 tonnes).

So I'd be somewhat surprised if you get as much as you were told...

  11. I posted this a couple of years ago but seeing it somewhere else reminded me and I can’t find it on here now. As many people will be either using their heating a lot or perhaps thinking of fitting it themselves or having it fitted this is a salutary warning to have the job done and maintained properly especially in petrol boats.

    David, Hi

It takes a bit of reading but is well worth the effort!

It also reinforces the complaints I made earlier this year about the sighting of diesel heater exhaust outlets on the new , higher-level, Broads Hire cruisers.

The one we were next to, at the New Inn, had it's exhaust directly pointing into our galley windows... When they started it up it literally choked us within a few minutes and we had to abandon the boat for a while. Fortunately this happened in mid morning; I dread to think of the consequences if it had been at night whilst we were asleep.......

  12. We moored overnight at the WRC a couple of Fridays ago, had a nice chat with James. The WiFi, although not fast, was acceptable. My daughter Alice had her Vodafone dongley thingy, so we were both able to go online together. The rest of the week I had to nick the dongle while she wasn't looking.

There were a couple of places we found unsecured WiFi, which we could easily have been used, however, as thats theft, we didn't. Why on earth do people have unsecured WiFi???

Steve, if that was you who helped me remove Pacific Emerald from James Quay decking, then "god bless you gov"

    Tim

    Tim, Hi

I've just gone over to btinternet.com and can now use their free wi-fi in over 2 million hotspots country wide using Fon and Openzone! It's NOT theft! :clap:clap:clap

  13. Hi Ian,

I want to hire “Sabinaâ€. As per your information, “hot air heating was fineâ€. Could you please provide me information for hiring this boat? What are the charges of it and procedure to hire it? Is it suitable for 11 persons?

    John, Hi

Ian wrote "We hired from Sabina" and I believe he meant Sabena Marine aka DRL at Womack Staithe.

I don't think that they will have a boat big enough for 11. I know that "Acapulco" from Richardsons takes 12 and might even be available!

    Good Luck!!!

  14. Wayne, Hi

So long as you warm up the engine first and have a helper and a big jug (or a funnel and a can) of anti-freeze ready, then it's no problem. I use a small watering can I bought just for this.

Get your helper to start the engine at idle revs and keep continuously pouring in the mix and then call for shut-down just before you run out! Ideally a second helper can call for shutdown as soon as they see anti-freeze come out of the exhaust.

I used this procedure on both propulsion and genny engines several times over last winter without a problem.

    Good Luck!

  15. Ive kept a bathtub at Ranworth for over 15 years. She comes out every third year for a bottom half paint, check anodes and a antifoul.

During the winter we take her for a bimble up the river every 2 or three weeks. I have never left any heating on in any part of the boat, I even leave a couple of windows slightly open.

So far (touch wood) I havn`t had any problems.

    cheersbar

You're a braver man than I am, Gunga Din!!! (with apologies to RK) :naughty::naughty::naughty:

  16. Hi Rob

I have also put the dehumidifer on board. My only worry is that because of the design of my raw water system I cant get into it to pour some anti-freeze in - but with the heaters that should be ok.

    Wayne

    Wayne, Hi

Surely you can get into the water strainer to clean it out? I shut off the cooling water and then pour anti-freeze mix into the opened strainer while Mary-Jane starts and runs the engine for a short time. I find about 5L of 50/50 gets right through to the exhaust.
