  1. Without doubt, Jean, Holland is God's Country for boating of whatever persuasion.

We hired a Broads type cruiser there a few years ago in August and it was stunning. (School hols finish early August and prices drop by 50%). The canals and waterways extend hundreds of miles and most marinas are council owned in the centre of picturesque little towns.

  2. I joined the NBN nearly ten years ago, mainly because it was a friendly forum about boats on The Broads. I see today that  I've averaged 1000 posts per year and I really must try to put more effort into it!

We had just moved from sea-going to river-going boating and although we had a fair bit of Yare-bound sailing twixt Brundall and Gorleston we knew little about anywhere else on The Broads.

Earliest Friday Girl, our Fairline Holiday, here shown when we visited St Peter Port in her with Daughter and Son and returned to Brundall!

And now Broads Bound until last year when I needed (and have since had) two new knees:

I can honestly say that I've enjoyed every hour of it,  be it sail, motor, sea or river!

One day I'll finish the saga of all the adventures we've had in them all!     :default_beerchug:

  3. Guidelines

The Moderators wish to explain the warnings system in operation as there appear to have been some misunderstandings. Accordingly the Guidelines have been amended to show this.

    Warnings and Moderation Approval

The NBN Forum incorporates a warnings and Moderation Approval system. Members who break the forum's rules will be issued with a formal warning by the moderation team and this will be recorded in the "Warning Points" underneath your messages.

Posting rights may need Moderation Approval or be restricted for a period of 1, 2 or 3 months. PM's are also restricted as they cannot be Moderated. Forum members are only able to view their own warning status. ('0 points' means that you have no recorded warnings. This figure will increase if warnings are issued.) If you have received a warning from the forum's team you can click on the warnings panel to find out why.

Members who persistently breach forums rules and reach 3 warning points may be banned either temporarily or permanently.

  4. Words literally fail me, Robin......... your crew choices must certainly have had "Bravery" and "Determination" near the top of the list of qualifications. In our 7 ton long keeled yacht with 3.5 tons of encapsulated pig iron in the keel I wouldn't have fancied that journey of theirs.

We had an angle-meter on the bulkhead, which is probably not a good idea for you, and the worst we ever saw was coming out of Scheveningen with a strong tide against wind just outside the harbour wall.... we reached 60 degrees and didn't like it too much.

  5. Robin hi and what an excellent quality new video system you have!     :default_icon_clap:

Did you all discuss that sudden drastic heel you mentioned at 25 mins 45 secs and what was the assumed reason, please?

I experienced just such a happening crossing the Alderney Race in full flood many years ago but in a 30 ft sailing boat you tend to have everything lashed down!

    Going slightly off topic.

Hi Jay.  Many years ago when I was in the WRAF we used to have a small red extinguisher used solely for electrical fires which was 'abolished' under 'Elf & Safety'  For the life of me I can't remember what it was called.  Any ideas?

    Sue

Sue, Hi. I first came across these as avery young AEO on Vulcan Mk1's.

They were BCF... Bromochlorodifluoromethane... I had to learn to spell that for the safety exam! (Also known by the trade name Halon 1211, or BCF, or Halon 1211 BCF, or Freon 12B1, is a haloalkane with the chemical formula CF2ClBr).

  7. Gosh, Queren, you should be handing out medals all round for endurance and fortitude!     :default_icon_clap:

My day today,  just one hour ago, in the local surgery, started with the practice nurse taking out 40, yes 40, surgical staples from my left knee......

Now home and eyeing the whisky bottle but I must exercise that knee down to the Hockham Eagle and back first.

Then we have a bottle of fizz in the fridge for Val's Day celebration, to be followed by the Scotch coffee!     :default_drinks:

So I am leaving it at that. I have thanked him for his timely remarks and he did his best with interviewing his staff, even though imho they were being economical with the truth.  No need to flog a dead horse.  Robin is of course aware of the communications I have been carrying out.  I have invited said operations manage to have a read of this thread and make comment if he wishes too.  If nothing else, I would hope that me getting onto Peel will hopefully sharpen up the staff that operate the bridge into being somewhat more on the ball and not taking us leisure craft for granted, otherwise they will suffer yet another internal investigation.  Eventually some mud will stick.  There isn't and never has been smoke without fire.

I think that really sums it up, doesn't it?

Congratulations to you, Charlie on getting so far and keeping us updated throughout this sorry saga.

, but I will question one part of it and that's why on a Norfolk broads forum a derogatory naval term for a member of the RAF is being used , they are after all a group member of Her Majesty's armed forces and as such should be shown the respect they deserve on here , what happens in naval / ex naval  circles really doesn't have a place on a broads forum when it comes to derogatory names IMHO.

    Ricardo, Hi.

Don't worry on our behalf, please, we're quite used to Fish-heads and Pongos having a gentle dig at the youngest service!
