  1. Thre are, of course, both narrow, 6' 10" and broad canals up to 14' wide. The Leeds & Liverpool, Calder & Hebble and Huudersfield Broad are wide beam and the Huddersfiels Narrow obviously narrow. Further south, narrow canals are much more common. In the north the canal/river navigations wer very much for commercial movement of aggregates, flor and grain and coal. Mostly wide beam. They really are a wonder of victorian engineering to read about. And there are a total of some 2000 miles available for navigation! Not bad methinks! All I amsure Alan will also eagerly confirm.I am aware he also had a long period of navigation these wonderful waterways.

  2. I have often passed that tin heron! I always have a lunatic wish to have a bazooka to hand to destroy the bliddy thing! Totally off the wall I know but, somehow, my mind occasionally works like that. Really enjoyed reading all about your voyage and loved the photographs. Very well done and hope to see more in the future. Thanks very much.

  3. Chin up Paul, I too have had days like this recently and it really does make you boil over in rage. After a while you consider all a little more calmly and, yes, feel no better at all. I spent a good while putting together a few very carefully worded but bitter and critical and sent these off both by email and snail mail, Eventually these excrement holes do contact you in very syrupy manners and try and repair the situation. Oh no by jiminy! You must try harder than that I think and continue to bombard them with very pointed correspondence. It does not totally mend the situation but it really does make me feel a lot better. Very best of luck Paul.

  4. I wouldn't mind betting that Langford Sr is looking down with a very broad smile on his face apart from what happened to his old yard. He was very proud of the boats he produced with the help of Jeremy Wolstenhome I think was the designer.

  5. Simple answer Yes, at the moment the staithe is under the control of Stalham Parish Council who have either limited powers  or are very reluctant to use their authority. May also be a question of resources. Yes, the BA often get a bad rep, but when they have control of this mooring I very firmly believe it will be a different story.

  6. How many times does this need to be stated. The BA are in the process of taking over responsibility for that very mooring. Tom has made it very clear that when this happens they will have th authority to move boats on. Bit of a shortage of patience methinks.

  7. I was hoping Peter would pick up on my post from the 1970's in January. I'm almost certain it could have been him we met at the bar. At the time the place was a building site, the basin had been dug out but the landworks were far from complete and mainly just mud. We really enjoyed that holiday recalling it fondly.
