  1. I went to download the updates for my charts last evening and found that I could not get them for the issue I had. They have been reprinted and only the latest reprint updates are available. I was a bit annoyed as I bought the charts the last month from large reputable companies and they would have been at least two months past the reprint date at that time.

I have contacted Imray who have agreed to replace these FOC. cheers

From now on I will get my charts directly from Imray so I know I am not buying old and out of date stock.

  2. Hi

During the recent trip to Southwold I was horrified to find water in the Lazarette - not a little either. The installed bilge pump was a manual switch but fortunatley I had a spare float swich so that was quickly fitted. On the way back we were still taking on copious amounts but the bilge pump was coping.

On our return I spoke to Steve, our boatshed guy and after a good look around we both stood stareing and wondering - there seemed to be nothing obvious. I dried it all out expecting to have to lift and undertake some sort of (expensive)repair.

Today we decided that while it was dry it would be a good idea to blast it up the river with Steve in the Lazarette and try to find out where the water was coming in. I had previously been out at normal river speeds and it stayed dry.

After about 100 yards at full power my fun (sorry serious investigation) was cut short by Steve shouting up stop! found it!.

Turns out the bilge pump skin fitting is just above the waterline right near the stern, but there is no non-return valve fitted. So when the old girl is at power this goes under the water and provides a nice 1" hole in the boat.

So I just need to fit a valve - phew

  3. Hi all

The old girl (Sea Jem not Tracy  ) needs a holding tank fitted. I have two possible locations:

    1) Under the dinette - there is a large area of free hull that could take a tank. It is only about three feet from the lavy but the pipe would have to go up a little to get to the top of the tank. My concern is putting the tank inside the boat and associated "vapours"

    2) In the lazarette - this is some 17ft from the lavy. It gives easiest installation but the distance worries me. The pipe would have to run along the bottom of the boat so wont have any real fall over the distance. The info I have read talks about keeping the smells down by having pleanty of air in the system. In this location the "substance" would be sitting for a long while in the pipe.

    3) Get a cassette toilet - though I am not a fan and guess who would be emptying it :o

    What do you think?

    thanks

  4. Thanks Martin

I bought Imray as personal preference as the sea and land colours made more sense to me - but that's just me.

I will, as you say, contact Imray.

Maybe - they should provide windmill stickers with new charts so we can add them as they spring up :naughty:

  5. Hi

Now this is probably going to be a silly question but..

I have downloaded the updates for my paper charts and need to apply the changes. As the charts are made from shiny paper what type of pen / pencil do you use?

Also I am sure I have seen a stencil for symbols somwhere but I now cant seem to find one.

    many thanks

  6. Hi

I was on the beach at Hopton this morning - the sea was very flat and calm - I know that does'nt help much though

What I have noticed over the past few weeks is fishing boat laying either nets or pots. I am at the beach most days with the dog since we got him last August and have not seen that before, but not being a fisherman I guess that could be a seasonal thing. Anyway the little yellow buoys have flags on them and sometimes seem to be a fair way out, so if you are coming from Yarmouth something else to watch out for :shocked

As it stands at the moment we are booked into Hamilton for Sunday afternoon. Might take a walk up to Sgt. Peppers if it's still there - not been there for years.

    regards all
