  1. I can understand you guys who are regularly out on your boats watching tv and I am so not knocking you for it but for me anyway being out on a boat just for a week or two, I try to enjoy every second of being afloat. I don't think you can beat being wild moored or mud weighted and weather permitting being sat outside enjoying every second. Mind you, if the Boss Ad man is on tv, Barton Broad will just have to wait :default_biggrin:

    Have a great week

  2. Thank you for posting this MM

What a refreshing change it is to read a post about a same sex group being polite and having consideration for others.

I'm quite sure there have been plenty of them in the past and lots more, hopefully, in the future.

  3. Well our members have covered everything as usual. I would just like to add, if you get a calm, clear night Barton is one of the best places to mud weight in those conditions. It is absolutely magical, all you can hear are the wildlife and the water. Sit outside on a clear night, look up at the stars and just enjoy every single moment.

I sat outside until 2 in the morning with a couple of glasses of wine, I will never forget how peaceful I felt

I hope you get a night like that

  4. You don't sound like Victor Meldrew at all, I quite agree

The situation in Hastings has also caused disruption to local transport causing grid lock on the roads. Bottled water has been supplied, how very kind of them :facepalm:but if you don't drive and especially for the elderly, how on earth do you carry several bottles of water back

We will be thinking twice before taking a dip in the sea this year as we've had several spillages. Utterly disgusting. As usual, they mess up and we have to pay

  5. Mark's post should be framed, brilliant and thank you.

I work with children and have come to know when a child is being just plain naughty or may have a problem with learning, anxiety etc. I know there seems to be a label for everything now days and I also know that some parents will want their child labelled so something can be done and they get the help they need

I also know there are some naughty children who are just plain naughty or naughty for a reason. Trying to get some sort of attention because they don't get any at home or a more sinister reason, abuse etc.

What I also try to remember and bring into my everyday work life is that 'normal' children are special too and deserve just as much attention

Many years ago when I worked in a Nursery one little boy in my care would just sit and scream for no reason, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't coax him to stop, he would toddle up to the toy corner and smash them on the table. I reported this of course, the parents had him tested, he was Autistic.

I like to think I did my bit in helping that little one and hopefully can spot the signs and help another child in the future

  6. I'll be watching the footie with my dad and boys. If the England games fall on the right days and times we may go to our local to watch, supporting our pub and our national team. Although I would prefer a Broads pub of course

I know they are a bunch of overpaid, egotistic pretty boys and I understand a lot of people get frustrated that it's on almost every channel and would rather watch paint dry but it does bring people together and great conversations in the pub.

You could always watch the soaps, gosh, I'd rather watch paint dry :default_biggrin:

    Come on England!

  7. I don't use swear words in everyday conversation, I have been raised proper. I would never swear at my children like I have heard some parents in the street, supermarket etc, it makes my blood run cold.

I may have stepped on a Lego brick and let out an expletive much to my children's surprise but then I will sit and explain to them that sometimes, especially when one has stepped on a Lego brick that should have been put away in the first place, it helps to relieve the pain and stress.

However, I have learned from experience it is not a good thing to swear in front of your children either, whatever excuse you may have. When my Charlie stubbed his toe he let out the very same expletive I used when I stood on the Lego brick.

After explaining to him what a very bad word that is to use, the cheeky beggar informs me he was just relieving the pain and stress

  8. Salhouse Broad. You can't beat it for mud weighting, sitting on the deck and watching the boats coming in an out, the big trip boat doing it's rounds and watching families having fun on the moorings while you're hoping the ice cream boat will turn up.

If they had a wine boat, I'd stay there the ruddy week :default_biggrin:

Hire a dingy and go for a row at sunset, absolutely stunning

I feel really sorry for Natasha who started this thread.

Perhaps its time for the mods to prune out anything not directly related to Natasha's original request to one of the hundreds of other threads that have already discussed the other issues ad infinitum?

I know we have a tendency to wander off topic, but this is not a good welcome to a new member!

I feel for her too. She hasn't come back, is it any wonder :facepalm:We do go off topic sometimes, it's the way it is but please can we help Natasha if she comes back and not make her feel she is some sort of criminal for wanting to stay on her boat

Think I’ll head to Barton Broad after, drop the weight, open a bottle of red and binge on Netflix for the rest of the day!

Change the bottle of red to a bottle of Prosecco and that describes a perfect afternoon. Oh and some nibbles, a soppy romantic film (none of that macho stuff) or a rom com :default_biggrin:

    Enjoy!

  11. Excellent post MT.

I don't think Natasha wanted all this about liveaboards, just some help with a couple of questions. There's plenty of other threads on this subject. We really shouldn't hijack a newbies thread, probably frightening them half to death at the thought of staying on their boat in the process

Hi Natasha, a very warm welcome aboard :default_icon_wave:

Not sure about moorings but Richardson's have toilets, cafe, laundry and showers. There's also showers and toilets at Herbert Woods, an excellent cafe, pub and shop for lots of tat you neither wanted or needed but will buy anyway :default_biggrin:

I hope you manage to get sorted

  12. There is a thread here somewhere about people videoing other peoples mishaps and how wrong it all is. I have posted on that thread on how awful it is for poor souls who mess up and then have it splashed all over t internet.

However, in this instance, I would pay to see our ex Navy, tough, all round nice guy Griff taken out by a blade of grass :default_biggrin:

Which is exactly the point. It's reasonable to assume those filmed smashing into, or stuck under the bridge would rather not appear. Why should they be forced to appear on camera, when the person filming doesn't?

Absolutely spot on. I get sick of seeing some poor soul mess up, having it filmed, splashed all over the internet, being ridiculed and called idiots etc

Do these people who film these events mess up in life? I would think so, glass houses and all that

  14. Yes, it is like talking to friends in the pub. In fact MT, or whatever your name is :default_biggrin: you probably know more about me than my friends down the pub.

I also would just like to add that I like your ever changing Avatar even though I keep reading Mophead :facepalm:and yes, this is a friendly forum, long may it continue too.
