  1. Due to the wife's worsening mobility issues she is finding it hard to climb on and off the boat so the plan is to cut out a section of the port side to make it into a hinged door, I know a guy that does GRP work and is confident that its a straight forward job , I'm just a bit concerned about altering the structure by a large amount after all it was built like that for a reason, can anyone see any issues with having a hinged door in the area I have marked out.
  2. As mentioned on the other thread what are the toilet set ups on Indy ? Guessing they are sea toilets so what are you planning on doing when up in Brundall? Also if the draft turns out to be more than you thought is there a back up plan for an alternative mooring..
  3. Plus my marina requires all boats there to have one, no Bss no mooring there.
  4. Is the insurance not invalid without a current Bss??
  5. Is anyone checking the tender and crane are operational and ready to go, could be useful to know its ok to use just in case its required??
  6. Cost of electricity should be minimal and worth every penny going by the above pics
  7. The one time you don't do it will be the one time you wish you had, the boat next to mine at my old mooring went down two years on the run due to a burst cooling pipe hose, its pretty much beyond saving now and is the one boat the marina owners keep an eye on over the colder months, it looks a horrible mouldy rotten Seamaster but they keep on paying the mooring fees so not much they can do apart from keep on advising the owner to turn off or drain anything that can freeze..
  8. Just about to order the above but was wondering if anybody owned one and could tell me if the oven door handle or the complete oven door is easily removable without drilling any rivots out??, I'm a bit tight for space in the cabin door area and don't really want to chop any of the woodwork out to get it in unless I absolutely have to, I am about 10mm too tight according to the sizes quoted, I had to slightly alter (with a hammer) the old Flavel one along with removing the door to get it out..
  9. Looking for a simple battery monitor and am considering a NASA bm1 ,is this OK or is there anything else that I should be looking at ??
  10. The new cooker does have ffds fitted to oven, grill and hob and will always be turned off after use, its more of a piece of mind thing for the wife, it was after the sad events at Wroxham island that worried her and then the boat failed the bss on gas issues, its all been replaced ,we have new gas lines,a new gas locker with drain, its all been passed off but the wife said just because it was all ok on the day it passed doesn't mean it will be ok next week, can't argue with that I suppose, we are fitting new co detector and smoke alarms just looking for something for the gas .
  11. Been working my way through the list of jobs that needs doing over the winter, one job i need advice on is the four piece folding windscreen arrangement, two of the four screens have gone misty and have crazing around the edges, they are a perspex ,lexan type plastic, I did have a go at polishing them when I first bought the boat and they did come up a lot better but now they are looking pretty grim again and when the sun is shining on them its almost impossible to see through, what is the best stuff to use, perspex, lexan ,acrylic?? Is perspex just another name for lexan? Sure I read somewhere that acrylic was different and more suitable for windows,, 2nd job is replacing the smoke alarm and the co alarm both these fell off when we had the boat moved last week, both these are cheap enough so thought I would just buy new ones but since it failed the bss a few months ago on various gas installation issues the wife is now paranoid about gas leaking in the future, I always turn it off when not in use but she now is a bit uneasy about it, is there such a thing as a battery or 12v powered gas leak detector? Been googling but they are all either mains powered or the small hand held ones, not sure if such a thing even exists or is even something worthwhile having but if she knows there is something there then she might feel a bit better about staying on it??
  12. Thanks for all the advice, ended up going for a Voyager 4500 as its a similar size to the old Flavel so nothing will have to be modified to fit it, still undecided on the fridge as the space we have is very narrow and I'm not finding anything that will fit at the moment..
  13. I need one similar size to the Flavel one because I could only get that one out by removing the cabin door, it seems the smaller they are the dearer they are
  14. That was one I looked at, in a way I don't mind spending on a cooker, the flavel doesnt have flame failure so glad its going for a more safer up to date model, a fridge is just to keep the wife's wine cold so the £600 price tag is a bit more than I expected
  15. Far worse gets posted so don't understand why that should be edited
  16. Thanks was thinking a 12v one would be preferable, just a bit put off by the price of them, guess a bit more overtime is needed, also need a cooker as the old Flavel Vanessa has failed the bss test and the only one I can find that fits the space is £490
  17. Looking to buy a fridge to fill the empty hole where an old gas one was removed some time in the past,,currently using a cool box but its power hungry, not sure what to go for, boat spends a lot of the time at a marina 240v hook up is available but at the moment I dont have 240v on the boat, that is on the list of winter jobs to do , it doesn't have an invertor at the moment but could fit one if needed, options are a 12v compressor fridge at a huge expense or a 240v one run off an invertor, maximum cruising at the moment is two or three days away so unsure which option to go for??
  18. £166 ,if ive worked it out correctly maximum 28 days
  19. Next spring/summer we are planning on spending 3 or 4 weeks up north but this time we are planning on getting our own boat transported up rather than hiring, we have had a price just over £400 each way so considerablly cheaper than hiring, we gave wroxham as a destination to work out transport costs but we need somewhere that has a slipway we can use, pretty flexible on location as long as it has car parking for up to a month available, any suggestions as to where has such facilities??
  20. I've watched all of them posted by Robin and Russell, totally different styles but both highly enjoyable , Robin can waffle on for ages about how many amps an invertor uses on standby,Russell can waffle on for ages about pub grub but both are great and I eagerly await updates from the pair of them...
  21. Just watched Russels latest updates, thoroughly enjoyed them all, what a character says it exactly as it is , the dark side extras are my favorite bits, https://m.youtube.com/channel/UC6FiLsEUtcp1kYCADtL-Qgw
