  1. Think Vaughan has as much knowledge. :default_biggrin:

Although this map is 1888-1913 it still shows Horning probably as it almost was?

Just opposite the Petersfield (as was) there is still some lagoons and I can imagine that as the willow pattern harbour as there were/are wooden bridges, the pines of the Petersfield - all a bit willow pattern? I've seen an old aerial photos online but can't find it at the moment!

Broadland Memories has loads of photos of Horning but the Francis Frith archive is pretty impressive

This one might look uninteresting but the concrete pavement is still there - you walk on it when you go to the Chinese which is the building in the corner.  The cottages are still there  but the boatsheds which say HT Percival is the development where I lived between 1970 and 1981 etc.

After dodging it for nearly 3 years I tested positive for Covid last night. 😷

A bit achey and a head ache ( nothing new there ) so far.

Daughter 1 - caught it twice but waited to this July for the first bout

Daughter 2 - caught it twice (just recovering from 2nd bout but timed it better this year, last year was 7 days before Christmas)

Daughter 3 - not knowingly caught it but countless colds and always negative

Me and Dr G - still once but not taking anything for granted.

Went around a very crowded London Friday and seem to have avoided it????

    Get well soon!

Hi Liz went to Cromer yesterday but yes, no trains today. Back in Horning and amazingly the Ferry is open and even more amazingly its got 3 Blind Mice Juice Rocket on, good form too. Just waiting for the inevitable announcement that they are closing early. Then back to the dreaded Gloombar :default_2gunsfiring_v1:

It was the absence of photos made me think you didn't make it!!!

Tell Mrs Nog that Gin Mare in the New Inn is quite agreeable, I had it with full fat original Fever Tree. It was a brand new bottle so she might be the 2nd person to try it. It comes from Spain and I had some Formentera in April

The Ferry does have a good variety of beers.....

  4. I make mine using a sweet pastry made in the food processor using French flour bought in France.

Farine de ble - premiere extraction (accents missing). Hopefully my stock will last as aren't planning any future trips ☹️

  5. And I assume you couldn't get to Cromer because of the train strikes?

Hope the Swan stays open tonight!  Maybe the New Inn has got more than Doom Bar on as well?

We travelled up from Kent this morning for a pre Christmas break. Last night we had a fair amount of snow where we live which made us doubt if we would be able to travel today. I checked Barnes Brinkcraft webcam this morning and it showed no signs of snow so we decided to make the journey. There was snow on the ground / roads until we got to Thetford, after which where there was no sign of snow for the rest of our journey to Wroxham.

I can vouch for that! I would say it was more like Newmarket

  7. Now back in snowy Hertfordshire, I can beat Bikertov as we have 4" - I measured it!!

This is why in Norfolk today all your EDPs weren't in the shops because they are almost certainly printed at the Times Newspapers printing works just off Jnct 25 of the M25

    The cats aren't happy

  8. We used to love mooring at Brundall Dyke in the 1960s. Full of marsh gas and by the railway line Giant Hogweed! Great for train spotting plus hearing a coaster coming along and running down to end of the dyke to see it go past. The footpath over the railway went past the small church. It was just called Brundall Dyke then.

  9. I think the Lodge has a more land based customer whereas the Fur & Feathers does likewise it will attract some from the river bank!

Mother in law has been going regularly to the Lodge to meet with friends for some years and thoroughly enjoys it there.  Telling us regularly that the pies are 'to die for' - she says it every time!

When I heard that the Lodge might be changing hands a few months ago, she did ask and they said no it wasn't! But that might have been what they were told to say!

They also have a small camping area but why anyone would want to camp on a hillock.....

  10. I do care about damage to wildlife habitats but consider the introduction of Sea Eagles and Beavers to be vanity projects. I constantly say look after what you've got before introducing/ re-introducing allegedly extinct species. The reason why they are extinct is that the modern landscape can't support them. Otters come to mind?

  11. Three Rivers Race 2021 I could see at least one dinghy floating into the river off one of the longest boats moored up at the New Inn in Horning. I went round and suggested the mooring assistant ask the hirers to move them. In the middle of the night no helm would have seen them - as it happened only a handful of boats finished in the dark......

  12. Back in the summer, I was driving back from Norfolk along the A505 to Royston.  As I approached a north bound side turning (bear in mind at Royston I turn south) it said road closed ahead (but as usual not where!!!) so I continue on hoping that the road closure is after the short cut to the A10.  I meet several cars coming in the other direction so I am hopeful but no the road closure is just where I want to turn off.  About turn but the last thing I want to do is go several miles towards the north bound A10 so I continue on until my first south bound route!!!  What wound me was why didn't they say at that junction the road ahead was closed!!!!

Two weeks later, they again closed the road but this time, they told you at the south bound side turning first!!!

PS was in Bletchley last Sunday visiting Bletchley Park and encountered the grid system and the road closures!  Daughter was directing my husband - it was agreed I would drive home!!!
