Brrr!

48 minutes ago, Graham47 said:We travelled up from Kent this morning for a pre Christmas break. Last night we had a fair amount of snow where we live which made us doubt if we would be able to travel today. I checked Barnes Brinkcraft webcam this morning and it showed no signs of snow so we decided to make the journey. There was snow on the ground / roads until we got to Thetford, after which where there was no sign of snow for the rest of our journey to Wroxham.
I can vouch for that! I would say it was more like Newmarket

As we drove through the village, I looked for you but all I could see were private boats! It was just before 9 so suspect you had already moved on.

We used to love mooring at Brundall Dyke in the 1960s. Full of marsh gas and by the railway line Giant Hogweed! Great for train spotting plus hearing a coaster coming along and running down to end of the dyke to see it go past. The footpath over the railway went past the small church. It was just called Brundall Dyke then.

I think the Lodge has a more land based customer whereas the Fur & Feathers does likewise it will attract some from the river bank!
Mother in law has been going regularly to the Lodge to meet with friends for some years and thoroughly enjoys it there. Telling us regularly that the pies are 'to die for' - she says it every time!
When I heard that the Lodge might be changing hands a few months ago, she did ask and they said no it wasn't! But that might have been what they were told to say!
They also have a small camping area but why anyone would want to camp on a hillock.....

I do care about damage to wildlife habitats but consider the introduction of Sea Eagles and Beavers to be vanity projects. I constantly say look after what you've got before introducing/ re-introducing allegedly extinct species. The reason why they are extinct is that the modern landscape can't support them. Otters come to mind?

Three Rivers Race 2021 I could see at least one dinghy floating into the river off one of the longest boats moored up at the New Inn in Horning. I went round and suggested the mooring assistant ask the hirers to move them. In the middle of the night no helm would have seen them - as it happened only a handful of boats finished in the dark......

Back in the summer, I was driving back from Norfolk along the A505 to Royston. As I approached a north bound side turning (bear in mind at Royston I turn south) it said road closed ahead (but as usual not where!!!) so I continue on hoping that the road closure is after the short cut to the A10. I meet several cars coming in the other direction so I am hopeful but no the road closure is just where I want to turn off. About turn but the last thing I want to do is go several miles towards the north bound A10 so I continue on until my first south bound route!!! What wound me was why didn't they say at that junction the road ahead was closed!!!!
Two weeks later, they again closed the road but this time, they told you at the south bound side turning first!!!
PS was in Bletchley last Sunday visiting Bletchley Park and encountered the grid system and the road closures! Daughter was directing my husband - it was agreed I would drive home!!!

What I would like to know is how did they unstick the low loader. Not a question of waiting for the tide to go down!

Thanks very much Liz, I hadn't seen that before.
Nice to see Dougie Blewitt on the mainsheet and I noticed David Bray as well. Dougie was chairman of the trust at that time.
Thank you. I assumed you had seen it. I'm so amazed that I had never heard of this adventure! I was expecting to see you on board!!!

That must have been a very sad moment for the family and staff at Silverline when the boats left yesterday morning.

Put a sail on everything!
The problem is that electricity doesn't grow on trees, far from it...............

JA and Grendel have explained the anomalies!
A photo of the boat might give a clue to some of our more knowledgeable members or to try and find a bulk head number - there is the possibility of one being intact depending on how much rebuilding to the boat has been undertaken. You can then take that information to the Norfolk Archive and find the boat logs that are there. Hence how I know more about the age of Water Rail and the other Herbert Woods boats

I am informed via my mother in law that Flavours has shut for the winter and the chef has returned to the Blue Boar in Sprowston (where he was the chef!) - he was good there as well!
This is based on word from one of her neighbours who spends a lot of his free time in the Blue Boar so it is probably accurate!

ps we were very impressed with Flavours when we visited in August

And I assume you couldn't get to Cromer because of the train strikes?
Hope the Swan stays open tonight! Maybe the New Inn has got more than Doom Bar on as well?
