There must be something about Neatishead and MS’s electric cables. The cable didn’t work for us either, but in our case it was the connection with the lug at t’other end.

I am going to have another look at the connection to the boat tomorrow, as weren't happy how easily it came away

Hopefully it's nothing serious and just needs a little tightening up

I have been surprised how many people are running their heaters though as I am really warm and the weather is quite "muggy"

I saw both Moonlight Shadow and Ranworth Breeze there on Sunday afternoon as I had a wander round the area, but it looked like no-one on board at the time.

We should have taken over Moonlight Shadow on Friday, but were otherwise engaged, so didn't arrive at the Marina until after 5 on Sunday, so you probably missed us

Currently having a pint in the White Horse, Neatished

  3. Gays Staithe is a lovely spot and Roxy and Yogi really enjoy the grass area to relax on

    DSC_0040.thumb.JPG.b0fe3c4b5c210b43dc2d1dc2d1f9493c.JPG

We had some lunch and then went for a walk and the saying is you can learn something new every day.

Well all the years we have been coming on the broads we never realised there was a car park and toilet block 2 minutes from the Staithe

    DSC_0043.thumb.JPG.9f55d8bd0df3f8971de3d58e8c2c5a34.JPG

The weather was fine at this time so we went for a stroll towards Neatished and stopped off for some Raspberry and White Chocolate, salted caramel and cherry and almond bags of fudge from the "Fudge Lady" stall

    DSC_0044.thumb.JPG.e278684bbe3e90fcb2e8834d98c7cdf7.JPG

It is amazing how close you can get to the wildlife, especially when you are with 2 extra large dogs as this Pheasant didn't care less

    DSC_0045.thumb.JPG.d3b30e47535426f2900b6d4a98c3aee1.JPG

When we got to Neatished Staithe we noted there was plenty of moorings and Roxy was a little tired, as it was quite warm out, so Julie sat on the bench at the Staithe and I nipped back to the boat with Yogi

    DSC_0046.thumb.JPG.72a479c0f5a3256fb091909ced839257.JPG

    DSC_0047.thumb.JPG.e76455e911194b1e2d679711717e7b84.JPG

I then brought Moonlight Shadow to Neatished Staithe were we are now moored, as this gives us access to electricity, the bins and is closer to the pub!

    DSC_0048.thumb.JPG.4b6da2487c18c145dfdd9012bf6204e1.JPG

I did some messing around with my shore power cables, as I just couldn't get the electrical system to work, so stripped them down and out them back together (as the rain came down heavily, so the footways and cables became sodden) only to find the connection between the cable and the boat had come loose.

I felt myself doing a Russell Thompson...as I said out loud "Oh Maaan!"

But a good day and if this rain stops we will nip to the White Horse for a couple of drinks before eating on the boat

It was me Warren, on Springers Retreat. On our way back from the meet to our home mooring at Stalham. I can highly recommend a stop to visit the azaleas and rhodo’s at how hill secret garden on your way back down. Think you’ll find quite a few more forum members up the Ant this afternoon. Have a good holiday. Kate

    Thanks Kate

We are now at Neatished, dodging the rain..

  5. We left our mooring around 10am and made our way to Ludham Bridge, watching the wildlife find all manner of locations to rest

    DSC_0031.thumb.JPG.78bf11f14874af47a2661f88c671016e.JPG

We visited Ludham Bridge Stores and took the dogs for a stroll up the riverbank

    DSC_0032.thumb.JPG.801e30753319d8b0340424a4ec00daa7.JPG

Before setting off again up the Ant, where we passed someone who shouted "Are you Warren with those big dogs" who was moored at How Hill.

Whoever you are, it was nice to meet your passing acquaintance!

We are now at Gays Staithe have a spot of lunch.

It has rained a bit and it's currently dry, albeit overcast with more rain due this afternoon and evening

We have been trying to have a stainless Bow guard fitted over the last few weeks. It looks as if George has decided to lift the boat to make it easier for staff.

    Regards

    Alan

She was already to be lifted as we left.

We are currently at Ludham Bridge as the rain starts to fall and it's a lot quieter on the rivers than I expected.DSC_0030.thumb.JPG.0066d95fb4545879b8bcecaecf2a8cf8.JPG

A good picture of Ranworth Breeze and some of the other syndicate boats at our new moorings at Horning Pleasurecraft

She has been moved this morning and is now at the Boat lift.

I already know this was the right move for us and looking forward to many years boating from our new home.

  8. We decided against a walk into Horning as the dogs were shattered after the long journey, so we put them in the car again and drove to Roy's car park next to Hoveton Park and took them for a stroll before stopping off for a drink at the King's Head

    IMG-20220522-WA0007.thumb.jpg.d03e1f937acdaffd58e65583b845b71b.jpg

It was lovely relaxing by the river and the dogs enjoyed sitting or lying down on the grass whilst we had a drink

I then walked to Ken's Chippy for 2 Cod, 1 chips and 1 peas before we headed back to the boat, open a bottle of wine and had our chippy tea

It's lovely now as we are relaxing in the marina and all I can hear is the snoring of my dogs!!!!

    🤣😂🤣😂🤣

And it's a simply stunning evening

It was lovely sat on the decking, albeit a bit warm for Roxy and Yogi

We had a break for an hour and then finished off the last 2 hours of the journey, arriving just after 5pm on what is a glorious evening in the marina

    IMG-20220522-WA0005.thumb.jpeg.0863493895991782ce3f3878bbe9ce1a.jpegIMG-20220522-WA0003.thumb.jpg.9b388a1b7fd23944e637d265ed7f68b6.jpg

Just unloading the car, getting the berth set up and then it will be a stroll into Horning with the dogs on this relaxing first day for us

  10. So we should have been heading to Norfolk today for our first trip on Moonlight Shadow from her new home at Horning Pleasurecraft, but it's Julie's birthday today (I have informed her that I am looking at trading her in for a younger model! 😂) and our son has booked a meal tonight at a local restaurant.

Then Saturday is our sons 30th birthday and as we have a large garden and more importantly for him a bar, he wants to have a party at ours and has invited many of his mates round!

As a result we will be setting off Sunday afternoon with a view to arriving at the boatyard around 7pm

Hence missing the meet this weekend, but we will be with you in spirit....or more likely knowing our family and friends...lots of spirits, and beer and wine!!!

    🍻🍺🍷🍾🥃🍸🍹

  14. Loved the write up Helen

On our last trip from Loddon to the Yare along the Chet we startled a deer on the banking which then started to run for some considerable distance along the bank in the same direction we were heading. The poor thing must have thought they were being chased!

It eventually darted left through some reeds and out of sight

I never tire of the wildlife you get to see (for those who care to look) on the Broads

Look forward to reading your next update

Even fried in batter IMHO hake is far better than cod or haddock anyway

The mind is a wonderful thing and people can get very set in their ways!

My wife will only have Cod......albeit when I have been to the chippy and for an experiment, bought Haddock instead (and not mentioned it), she has eaten it without hesitation or thought that it wasn't her favourite choice, because in her mind it was Cod.

I went to a social event last week with my brother, his wife and my son.

They had 2 lagers on offer (Carling and Coors)

The Coors was frothing like mad and took ages to pull a decent pint, but my brother and sister in law both insisted on Coors because they can't stand Carling!

I later went to the bar on my own and asked for 4 pints of Carling, but could they put 2 pint in a Coors glass for me because I couldn't be bothered waiting for a pint which was so difficult to pull.

They did and my brother even commented "now that's a proper pint"

    Yep...........

Ohh what a powerful thing your mind is!!🤣

I went on a Sunseaker weeks tuition in the Mediterranean many years ago we had inboard and out drive boats to learn on each with a qualified instructor their was four to a boat after a weeks tuition half the people couldn't moor or maneuver the boats properly and as for reading a compass at night,  in spit of their buying a several hundred thousand pounds of boat they were clueless one of the thirty something guy stock broker i think, demolished a pontoon commodity post, all he was interested was pushing the throttle wide open just like he did in his Ferrari, so what chance has a new hirer in 45mins going to be able to do?  SAFETY is the most important thing you are only going to achieve if you are lucky. John

We recall sitting watching a very large (approx 60ft), very expensive, sea going, private vessel trying to moor side on in Brundall on the main river Yare with a skipper on board who obviously had no idea what he was doing

He messed around for at least 30 minutes before he "luckily" managed to get in, during which this vessel was stern in, bow in, 90 degrees to the quay and much worse!

He obviously was using a vessel he had absolutely no idea how to manoeuvre.

I was refueling at the time and was told by the quay attendant that they get loads buying boats worth up to £1 million who have no idea how to handle a boat and don't even bother to get any training!

    So I fully understand!

  17. 22 minutes ago, andyg said:

How will an hour long handover prevent that

I must admit, I would regularly sign the declaration to say I could handle the boat and didn't need a trial run, I was content with a walk through and around the vessel to find out where all the "bits" where located

I found the trial run a waste of time as it usually meant slow manoeuvres in a marina, or onto a river with little tidal changes or current and back to drop off the employee (normally at Stalham)

I really don't know what you can do to change this as each boatyard is located in different places and none can replicate the issues you would have at the various locations around the broads

I really can't see trial runs being of much benefit unless there are a set number of manoeuvres that must be completed to confirm a level of competence which all the hire yards adhere to

With regards to your mooring at Horning Pleasurecraft, the boat next to Ranworth Breeze has been moved so we could be neighbors.

Do you have an aerial view of the location?

Silly to ask I know, but can't wait for us to move!

This has been a long time coming, very drawn out and then as quick as a flash we are going!
