Hi, Helen on Moonlight Shadow they will have to brave this Stormy weather coming our way how will they be Mooring up to ease their Boat from Rocking?
The home mooring is really well sheltered, (see pictures) so she will be fine
I take it you are tucked up nicely now @YnysMon -
Enjoy the rest of the week Helen / Graham
Anything happening at the Yare PH of note?
The walk into the village to the Ram and / or Casa Mia are nice also
We once planned to walk to the Shoulder of Mutton at Strumpshaw as the footpath beside the station takes you that way, but we never made it as friends made alternative arrangements so if you like a walk a bit further afield and the weather is OK you may want to give it a try
Other than that drives out or train journeys are good options, especially with a floating hotel to come back to
Stay safe and have a good one- 1

It's a good thing there's a spare key for the engine on board. The key that we received through the post doesn't work. It won't turn.
Not good!
Hope ours works!

Got to be joking. The most miserable landlord I've ever come across. Been there several times, as food was OK, but never received a welcome or a smile
We always had a warm welcome and loved the quirkiness of the place, the pub grub was very reasonably priced and not Michelin star standard but tasty and plentiful
The clientele were great also and every time we visited someone new or an old face would engage in conversation
It was the type of place you could visit as a family, as a gang of mates or alone and not feel out of place
Our kind of pub!

We have always used shore facilities where available and the onboard facilities when not, or at times of the day when it was just impractical (Early morning visit gents!)
As such in many years of boating, on many different vessels, with a variety of shipmates we have never needed a pump out midweek for a 7 day trip and rarely also on a 14 dayer.
I do recall we had a fortnight on Moon Voyager once and where we also went south for 4 days with 5 adults on board and did arrange a pump out, but other than that I can't recall ever needing one...
That was more down to 3 early 20s lads on board who had one night.....to the next morning in Norwich drinking copious amounts of alcohol followed by huge kebab's!!
But other than that occasion I don't recall needing one

Brilliant photos and lovely to see how calm and relaxed everything looks
Look forward to seeing Elaine's photos also
Until next time
Take care

If you like the Horning / Wroxham area it may be worth considering these
https://www.watersidebreaks.com/description/watersidegrandlodge.htm
They are off Grebe Island next to both JB Boats
And Norfolk Boat Hire who both offer day boats for short or longer bookings at a reasonable price
http://www.norfolkboathire.co.uk/index.html
In addition you also have Boulter's Marine who offer day boat hire
A good website to check is here
https://www.norfolkbroadsboathire.biz/dayboathire.asp
But as others have said, you may have to compromise and book the houseboat and day boats separately

Is it nerve wracking? It must be lovely though travelling when others are moored up and you’ve the river to yourself!
It's weird when you haven't done it before, but you soon realise your eyes are amazing and you start to see things as if it was daylight
We loved the calm and relaxed early morning cruise
Conversely I once cruised from Acle in daylight but thick morning fog towards Great Yarmouth and I hated it and will never do that again
Thankfully by the time we got to GY it was blue skies, but travelling in foggy conditions was a mistake!!

I also read above that being syndicate boata they may be able to travel in the dusk?
Moonlight Shadow has navigation lights and we have used her in the dark

I do not think that they are fitting additional posts, the way I read it they are replacing the current post.
I read it, that they are fitting additional posts
I suppose, time will tell

That’s good news! Though I must admit that we haven’t yet moored at Rockland on Moonlight Shadow
It's one of our favourite spots and the walks are great as you can head off towards the dyke and main river or turn right on the road and head into the village where there is a well stocked shop with post office counter.
As for the New Inn across the road, we have always found it extremely welcoming with great food
So more electric posts is a great addition to the mooring as the Eastern side would fill up quickly at peak times

Still nowhere near garage rates. Daughters car has fault coded. Dealer wanted £130 to plug it in and read it ....... bought a half decent scanner for £90 that will do pretty much everything. Took me longer to type this than garage would have to read it
Depends where you live I suppose
I have always had Land Rovers and contrary to popular belief found them to be extremely reliable and great value for money
I have just replaced my motor for another newer model and you guessed it, this morning, the engine management light came on the dashboard, so off I drove to Land Ranger Services (https://www.landranger.co.uk/) (Atherton branch near Manchester) to ask if they could plug in and run a diagnostic check.
They plugged it in and told me I have a glow plug fault which is causing the engine management light to display. "Is it serious I ask." "Nah", the man says, "I will reset the management system for you to clear the fault but on your next routine service, just let us know and we will sort the glow plug out"
"Ohh brilliant, how much do I owe you?"
"Nothing, its fine, it only took me a couple of minutes"
Great service, treating customers well, means you promote them to others and you WILL be back!!- 5

I would have snapped up the share in Moonlight but prefer a northern base.
I did smile when I read this because I was of the exact same opinion before we took the plunge and bought our shares in Moonlight Shadow
We even came down and spent the day on her as the previous owner met us and we took a jaunt to Rockland St Mary, had lunch at the New Inn and came backAt the time shares were 2 or even 3k more for the same style of boat on the Northern rivers and we just didnt feel the outlay was justified, so we went for MS which was moored on the south
Now if you asked me the same question, I actually am not bothered as I love the south (dont let anyone know please as I was quite vocal at our first AGM about moving north..........................)
I saw the south as miles of reeds, very few good stop off locations and tides of terror, whereas I now see it for the beauty that it always had but I didnt open my eyes to itWe took my brother and sister in law with us this year who had always hired northern boats and had never been south in over 40 years of boating
We visited Reedham, Loddon, Beccles, Geldeston, Oulton Broad, Thorpe St Andrew, Surlingham and Brundall and they absolutely loved it and actually said they think the south is better than the north as you are virtually guaranteed a mooring, the towns and villages have so much more than they do up north and the quiet places are just gorgeous. For example the run from Beccles to Geldeston or Bramerton Common to Commissioners Cut is just stunning and we love nothing more than bimbling along at 3mph taking in its beauty
The North and South both have their advantages and disadvantages, but having spent the last 3 years mainly on the south, I have grown to love the place and I am sure you would to
P.S. We do still venture north on MS and if you check out Dave Whitworths or Russell Thompsons videos on youtube you will find they both have syndicate boats, and regularly venture south, so the location of the berth isnt as restrictive as you may first envisage or worth the 3k extra outlay!

Hi I was thinking of joining a syndicate as my Holiday for the Two weeks on the Broads Hiring Boat is One Thousand Five Hundred quid I think it would be cheaper to joining a syndicate.
We visited the broads 4 times a year and we worked it out that on average it cost us around £6500 per year
If you purchased the shares now you could get them for around £2500 and then their is a monthly fee which is around £150 p/month
This means once you own your share of the boat your outlay is around £1800 per yearIt was a no-brainer for us to go down this route as we now have a guaranteed 4 weeks per year and invariably you are offered many other weeks at no further cost when owners cant use their allocation
We had 5 weeks this year, but could have had around 10 weeks if we had taken every week that was offered
It isnt for everyone but certainly worth considering if you are or intend to be a regular visitor
You also get to converse with the likes of @Mouldyand @YnysMonwho also have shares in MS- 2

Is that for a full 4 week share or a half share of 2 weeks? what will the additional costs on maintenance be for the new engine. The last syndicate boat having a new engine cost over £12000.00 plus fitting costs.
That's for the 4 week share and there are 2 syndicate owners selling up, so 8 weeks in total are available
The winter maintenance and engine replacement come in around £15K this year, but should give her many years of quality boating
With money saved in the contingency fund the additional costs to the owners are reasonable

We have been thinking of joining a syndicate
Just to give you the heads up if still interested in syndicate ownership that shares are currently available on Moonlight Shadow at the very reasonable asking price of £2500
She is currently based at Broom in Brundall and is having a new Nanni engine fitted this winter
Full details are on the BCBM website

Never had a problem, but will avoid it this trip.
Some other boaters have said the same which is so wrong and is giving in to intimidation, when it is your legal right but I do understand why you would make this decision.
If this attitude of the small number of Anglers at Neatishead is allowed unchecked, then we might as well ask the Broads Authority to amend their sign or put up a new one stating no berthing by boats from say beginning of November through to March 15th and be done with it
Griff
I fully support your actions Griff and I certainly don't see it as an aggressive action, but I balanced response to an horrendous incident.
I recall when I was a uniform PC in Cheetham Hill, Manchester around 1995 and got a call to attend the Fairy Lane Estate (you can have a guess what that was like!) In the early hours of the morning due to a vehicle being stripped.
I was with my colleague Don Price at the time and as we drove into the estate and approached Stapenhill Drive where the report was that the vehicle was located I was driving the "panda" and noted the street was pitch black as all the street lights were out and at the bottom of the cul-de-sac we saw a car on blocks with no wheel's
We drove down the cul-de-sac towards the vehicle and the whole street came alive with bricks, bottles and firebombs raining down on our car as it was a trap to target us
We managed to get out OK and the local youths painted "Police No Go Zone" in large letters across the road.
The next week Don and I would park our panda next to the graffiti, with the windows wound down as we spent the week doing paperwork in the panda parked on Stapenhill Drive, chatting to locals, many of which were extremely supportive and wanted someone to stand up against the thugs who spoiled it for the majority
It worked, the graffiti was cleaned by the council and the police were never targeted again on that estate!
I like to think we brought some good to a bad situation
Sometimes, doing something.....has to be done, to not only send the right message, but to protect your colleagues and the wider public in the future.

My wife and I have our booster booked for this coming Sunday, but we are now thinking, why should we bother if so many people are anti-vaxers, so many people don't follow the rules and the rules themselves are as much use as FIA regulations!

We live in an imperfect world, full of imperfect people, governed by imperfect laws.
We will never change them on a Norfolk Broads discussion forum.
Can I draw members attention to Grendel's earlier post,
"can we please limit the discussion to the topic, ie Covid,"
More exactly, to the booster .
Thanks.
My whole point was about COVID and Boosters and the impact of those who refuse them which you obviously missed

We have to agree Helen
Its one of our must visit places now as we love the park and the variety of pubs, cafes and restaurants in the area
I have no doubt the comment is just a reflection of their disappointment at Stonegate's decision
I wish them the very best for the future and hope the Commodore can remain one of the very best establishment's to visit, especially on a sunny day when you can have a beverage on the terracing or grassed areas whilst looking out onto the Broad
