That’s an impressive piece of belly pork! I’ve had my eye on those Cob cookers for a while, but I’m not sure I can justify the purchase with Graham having gone veggie.

We love our Cobb and would never go back to a traditional barbecue or camping stove

It's brilliant for meat, veg or even pasta etc as you can fill the outer ring with water and use it to steam as well as traditional cooking

They are pricey, but a great piece of kit and well worth the outlay in our opinion

Must admit, never cooked pork belly on ours @Mouldy

    But yours looks delicious 😋

Moonlight Shadow opted to replace carpet with carpet too. My memory of the discussion is a bit hazy though I can remember being initially in favour of a hard flooring but being thoroughly converted otherwise. Maybe Malcolm or Warren can remind me why…it might have been something to do with it deadening the sound of the engine (the engine being below the saloon). Mind you, the new engine is a lot quieter!

We voted for hard flooring, as we believe it to be more hard wearing, longer lasting and modern in look, but a majority of syndicate members went with carpet as they believed it was warmer, especially under foot and quieter.

I still would have preferred hard flooring, and not too keen on the new carpets but, that's just a personal preference and that's also the beauty of syndicate membership where sometimes others agree with your view and on occasions they don't.

Something that we are completely cool with and respect.

The kitchen area (sorry @Mouldy...galley!) has hard flooring and looks great.....😉

I agree about dogs normally well behaved and snoozing under the table, although ones that bark and react when you go past their table are as bad as poorly behaved children ( normally kids just being kids, but not having been taught there’s a time and place for everything).
When I was in the White Horse at Neatishead the other night, I’d forgotten the lead and Finlay still managed to stay sensible and he’s a springer spaniel!

For me it's all about being a responsible owner

We had a dog many years ago that was nightmare around other dogs, so we would never take him to pubs or places where he would potentially meet other dogs.

But I am extremely confident that our current and many previous dogs would be more than welcome in most homes, pubs or restaurants as they are gentle giants with an extremely loving temperament.

I personally have come across more obnoxious, smelly and vile humans than dogs so don't like pubs or other venues that ban dogs as I always ask would they ban humans if the odd one was a lowlife?

  4. I rather enjoyed the show

In an hours programme it was obvious to me that the locations they visited would be limited, but it introduced me to new areas of Norwich, as I didnt even know of the Assembly House for example which I found fascinating, although afternoon teas really dont float my boat and I must make a visit to the market one day soon.

I did smile when they went on the boat, as they certainly didnt go far, but the meal they made on board was of interest and I might try something similar in future.

I havent visited Great Yarmouth (passed it a few times mind!) in over 15 years, but it actually came across quite well

But I am with @Royas I actually enjoyed the watch, which in essence is what the programme is meant to do whilst giving people an insight into areas they may not know too well or did think they knew but brought something new to consider.

    Ticked those boxes for me

    lovely placid crew

They are very placid and our son has a Welsh collie and we call him Duracell because he doesn't stop.....so I know what you mean!

He is lovely though as prefer to sit and relax whilst watching the world go by and don't even attempt taking them on a very long walk, or they may just lie down and say "nope ...that's far enough for me!"

Try moving a 70 kilo Newfie that doesn't want to move!

  6. Last full day as we all left Salhouse Broad around 9.30 with our planned destination Ranworth and luckily for us we managed to get in due to a wonderful couple who shouted that they were leaving shortly, so I waited and as they moved off I slipped into the mooring they had vacated.

Met some wonderful people whilst at Ranworth including Andy (youtuber Boatyman) and @CambridgeCabby as we had a relaxing afternoon on the green

We then went for a walk to the New Inn at Horning and had a couple of drinks in the beer garden and I was pretty impressed with the "new Gus" who appeared to be sorting arrivals and supporting their mooring, just as well as the master!

We even met a family who said "excuse me but were you in the Ferry House Surlingham last May?"

Because they remembered the dogs but not us ..... obviously!

We then had a great chat with them.

We then made our way to the Swan Hotel as we had booked a meal for 6.30pm and I must say it was excellent and great value.

As this week was Julie's birthday week we were even offered a complimentary bottle of prosecco!

So 2 starters, 2 main courses, a pint and half of Amstel lager (I ordered them before I knew we had a bottle coming!) and a bottle of prosecco for £48!

The food was great, the staff were wonderful and I actually think that was great value!

We then sauntered back towards Horning Pleasurecraft, but stopped off at the Ferry Inn

I just hope those who live or visit the broads support them so they can remain viable

We are now back on the boat for our last night prior to an early start tomorrow as we head home

Can't wait for our next visit

  7. What a wonderful day

We left Sutton Staithe as you know just after 8am and made our way to Irstead Staithe, where we rarely have been able to moor, but on this occasion we were lucky so stopped off for a bit of breakfast and a doggy break.

Then we made our way to Ludham Bridge, where we stopped for lunch and I ended up helping a new hirer who was struggling to leave his mooring.

We headed down stream and moored on the starboard bank, whilst a Richardson's boat was on the port bank prior to the bridge.

Try as he might, he could not get off the bank and I saw numerous people on the same side as he, just watching.....

I couldn't sit and watch so I walked down the footpath, over the bridge and up to this poor guy who was shaking and very worked up as the tide was running out, the wind was blowing him back on the bank and he was brand new to boating so didn't really understand what he was doing wrong.

Against his better judgement I advised him to firstly calm down and remember, that we were all novices once.

I then advised him, that turning the wheel when in reverse had little or no affect.

So he was advised to go forwards with left hand down to push his rear out and then put her in reverse (language like this made it easier for him to understand) whilst turning the wheel hard to starboard.

Then when clear of the mooring select forward and you will be able to go ahead without being pinned to the quay.

The smile on his face was worth the walk round and over Ludham Bridge when he was able to head away unheaded.

We then made our way to Salhouse Broad, passing a moored Water Rail.

We had a walk up to the Fur and Feather and now we are back on board having another thoroughly relaxing evening

Here are a few photos of the day

  8. This morning we set off just after 8am and "bimbled" down the Ant and now we are moored at one of our favourite locations, albeit we rarely get in as there is only space for 2, maybe 3 boats and that is Irstead Staithe

Relaxing now with a cup of coffee at this lovely location.

The canopy is down, but there was a stiff breeze as we crossed Barton Broad

  9. Wonderful meal at the Sutton Staithe Hotel

Julie had cod and chips and I went for chilli and rice with a side order of fries and we both thought it was delicious

Back on Moonlight Shadow with a glass of wine and a relaxing evening with the dogs

Still the odd shower, but this evening does appear drier than it has been during the day

We highly recommend the Sutton Staithe Hotel which is dog friendly and serves good wholesome fair

So we have photos taken both fore and aft, showing the name  of the boats moored next door. I thought "naming and shaming"  was not allowed on this forum?

It is commonly accepted that one should not run an engine on moorings after 8PM although this is not a legal requirement.  I have not heard of anything to prevent someone charging their batteries in the afternoon, should they wish.

    Jeez.....

Is this my first warning from the forum police...

Excellent news! Both the shares that were available for Moonlight Shadow have been sold. That's quite a change from the situation when Graham and I bought in. There were four shares on MS available at that time (2019) and they didn't shift that quickly. Not sure whether it's the after effects of Covid,  our new engine or the move up north that seems to be making MS more attractive, but I'm really pleased.

I think it's the new website....

  13. Is it ethical to ask a fellow boater to turn off their engine?

Arrived at Sutton Staithe around 1.30pm and the boat directly behind me was running it's engine......

    We are stern to stern!

It's 20 past 5 and they are STILL running their engine!

I am sure the water will be warm enough, the batteries charged enough....They can't still be using the microwave!

    Weird day weatherwise!

  15. Hopefully the worst of the rain has passed.

We visited Stalham and picked up some provisions from Tesco, before heading back to the boat.

The dogs have had a good walk around Richardson's Marina

We have had a spot of lunch and I even fished out a floating fender near to Stalham Staithe, which still had the holder and screws attached, so don't want to know how that got ripped off!

Anyway we are setting off towards Sutton Staithe shortly and I can report the sun is now beating down

  16. Dogs were disturbed at 6am by the peaceful sound of a boat heater nearby so I am up, the dogs have had their first walk of the day and now the kettle is on.

I don't know why someone needs their heater on, as it is a very mild morning again with little breeze, it has rained again overnight, but it is currently dry.

    @kpnutit wasn't Orion but a HW boat

  17. I forgot to mention, as we walked back from the White Horse to Neatished Staithe, our attention was drawn to a beautiful white bird in the sky above the farmers field as it flew from our left to right without sound and as we looked it was clearly a beautiful Barn Owl which was out hunting for its next meal.

Moments like this really make our day as we realise why we love Norfolk so much

  18. Now back on the boat and I made a Lancashire Hotpot for our evening meal, washed down with a glass or 3 of wine

It's now a lovely evening on the mooring, the birds are singing, the rain has passed and it's lovely and quiet

    IMG-20220523-WA0028.thumb.jpg.6637bc2e2265f0de7d04b17aa09c5b4d.jpgIMG-20220523-WA0027.thumb.jpg.4f4462467fae761fc5e7795f7f24d8e9.jpgDSC_0053.thumb.JPG.cf8befec2e5eb8a6f03cec97fe9ba556.JPGDSC_0054.thumb.JPG.e4efffcd25bddc463f6b75adfd6e4b6f.JPG

Thunder is moored further down the dyke and it's now full so no hope for late comers.

We did have a boat try and despite my best efforts to get him to "SLOW" down he insisted on reversing as fast as he could and then when he realised there was no space, leaving as quick as he could...

He didn't cause any damage, but this was more down to owners and hirers feeding his manoeuvres off!

I hope he found a spot....with nobody near him!

  19. Awful

I hate all the BA bashing, but things such as this actually add fuel to the fire.

Whoever makes these decisions, really needs to find a new job and the BA needs to employ someone who has the finger on the pulse of the broads boating community

  20. We are going to try Stalham BA moorings tomorrow as Julie wants to nip to Tesco and then we are going to head to Sutton Staithe as we fancy eating out tomorrow and it's a nice spot for the dogs

If you do head up that way tomorrow, be nice to see you

    Enjoy
