Hopefully they'll tidy up the old house type building next door, assuming it's part of the pub

Not sure about that. The derelict Waterside Rooms site is often on the agenda at the Hoveton Community Council meetings. But the land where there's a rough car park and access to the stern on moorings is all fenced off at the moment so ... no idea what the plans are or who has fenced it off. The signs don't give anything away that I could see when I passed earlier in the week.

  2. Yes, the one in the convenience store in the precinct where the post office is sited is the only one we have left now. It's hoped that eventually this can be moved to be available from outside but I think at the moment you're restricted to access when the shop is open.

I have been to Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft, Cromer and Sheringham, all on separate days, on the train(s) from Hoveton/Wroxham

Worth bearing in mind that for Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth from Hoveton and Wroxham you would have to get a train into Norwich then another one out. The trains on the Hoveton and Wroxham line are only one per hour at best so worth checking connections at Norwich to see what the overall journey time would be. I suspect a bus from Acle might be easier although I’ve never done either journey.

  4. Talking of bookings ... Ferry Marina are advertising the following on Facebook. Nothing on the offers page of their website which is now well out of date.

Save 20% on winter breaks. Experience the piece and tranquility of a boating holiday on the Norfolk Broads from £500 all inclusive.

Holiday with us during February or March 2024 and save 20%.

Prices include fuel, collision damage waiver, car parking and WiFi.

I think its funny that they advertise the lack of facilities as a good feature

As a hirer who likes the peace and quiet and doesn’t want a pub then if there’s no facilities that’s a good place to be.

I think they're a poor mans Reflection. Must check my Euromillions ticket.......:default_biggrin:

Ha ha ... actually there's a very nice Shadow 26 for sale at NYA as well. If I had a spare £50k it might well be the one for me.

  7. I think owners and hirers may have different attitudes to the charges. I can understand anyone who is out multiple times in the course of a year objecting to running up mooring charges in addition to tolls and everything else that owning a boat costs you. But for a one off hirer it's not such a big deal IMHO.

  8. I would consider it. We're hiring on the southern rivers later in the year and if I wanted a guaranteed first or last night mooring I just might be tempted as long as I could book the end one.

  9. Isn't it a great feeling once you've checked in your hold baggage. Hope your flights go well and you're enjoying that lounge. I think we used a different one as we didn't get access to BA's lounge with our flights. We weren't over impressed with it but it was nice to have somewhere to sit in a little more comfort for a while rather than walking aimlessly around Heathrow.

  10. I thought there might be some people interested in these two videos. Something to watch while we wait for the new boating season.

This first one is Lowestoft to Norwich which goes along by the Waveney, the New Cut, and the Yare.

The second one is Norwich to Cromer which passes through Salhouse, and Hoveton and Wroxham.

  11. Alan thank you for sharing all these details at what I know must be a difficult time. The chance to remember your Dad and to do something in his memory is much appreciated.

Even now I think that some things will never be the same.

An interesting look back Helen. We had a few days on Swan Reflection in March 2020 that we were lucky to get as it was only a couple of weeks before lockdown. I’m permanently home working now but that wouldn’t have happened without the pandemic. I do think most things are now settled into a new normal.

Hope we’ll get an Aussie holiday tale Jean?

I will put something together once I’ve sorted out my photos and videos. Hopefully that will be ok with folk here even though it’s far from Norfolk. Got some more time off work yet fortunately.

    Welcome home Jean

Thank you Grace, nice to be back. I had got so used to where I have been that I hadn't even remembered that it gets dark around about now.

It has been a beautiful clear sky day but better watch out for those slippy paths everyone, once it freezes up.

  15. It is indeed freezing cold here in my part of Norfolk. Yesterday I was in the hot humid southern hemisphere summer. Today I arrived back to find sub zero temperatures and snow. Trying to warm the house up and wearing several layers to try to warm myself up as well. :default_rofl:
