  1. Crikey, that makes my 2.5 hr drive look pathetic. We did Skye to Kent the other year, and were really glad that we split it, to be honest wish we had done it over 3 days.
  2. Just found a photo from when we were down that way staying in Swanage. Very cheap ferry links Swanage and Poole, nice ride with commentary.
  3. Finally nearly time for our spring escape! We are hiring Concerto from Richardsons, pickup is Friday and we have a loose itinerary Friday White Horse Neatishead (moor at the village staithe) Saturday St Bennetts for the day, then head to the Lion at Thurne for an evenings music Sunday either Coltishall (Recruiting Sgt, not been there yet), or overnight at St Bennetts Monday probably Wroxham and get the train to Norwich to meet up with friends. Tuesday - Friday, havent a clue!! Couple of questions, The other half would really like to see an otter, any pointers of where to head that might have a better than average chance. I have seen them from the board walk on Barton Broad. I have read that the stretch of river up to Horstead Mill has been dredged, I have canoed it but have not taken a boat up there, good idea or bad idea? We would like to overnight up there if possible. Jon
  4. Great page, just decided to head to the Lion at Thurne to see One Hand Clapping on the 23rd.
  5. There was an interesting program on a while ago, all about luxury yachts. They talked to various people involved in the trade, ranging from sales, design, and owners. Most of the owners had no interest in actually travelling on-board, they would use them as mobile luxury accommodation. The crew would move the yacht between locations, the owner would fly in and live on-board for a few days. There was one chap looking to buy something to cruise the Med in, he was complaining that the drive to make the boats look more flash was having a negative affect on seagoing safety, things like sharp corners on fixtures and fittings. Its quiet impressive when you see Sunsskers facility at Poole, they look huge in real life, and only just fit in the boat sheds.
  6. Great thread, an its turned my mind to our get away starting next Friday, also hiring from Richardsons, but something a bit older. WHich reminds me must trawl through my photos from previous holidays and post them up.

    Dog Friendly?

Surprised you had problems at pubs, but nature trails or nature reserves dogs can cause issues.

    Ello!!

Thanks for the warm welcome, on countdown now, less than 10 work days The current plan is (hopefully) Neatishead on the Friday night, last visited the White Horse just after it reopened, then St Bennetts for a night, Coltishall (havent been to the Recruiting Sgt yet, probably Wroxham for a night to allow is to visit friends and the Fat Cat in Norwich. After that take it as it comes.
  9. I live in Tonbridge, and canoe / kayak on the Medway. 2013 was definitely an interesting Christmas, several people I know in and around Tonbridge got flooded, and a narrow boat sunk near the town centre, it was the only time I have seen the water go over the lock gates at Tonbridge and be the same height on the downriver side. The new mobile homes at Yalding were up on their flotation, deffinately earnt its name Little Venice
  10. Another newby to these forums, although not all that new to the Broads. We rented a cottage in Horning a couple of years ago, then booked a boat with Richardsosns the same year. We tend to hire cheaper boats out of season, mainly interested in being out and about in the countryside, visiting nice pubs, photography and canoeing. So have hired Melody Salerno Pacific Diamond Next up is Concerto later this month All the best and Jon
