I too hate pubs with doormen , as a publican I used to keep an eye on any groups and diffused any potential trouble .
one of my pubs was The Merton Arms in Cambridge which had the reputation as the roughest pub in Cambridge , I was there for 3years and was in my early twenties then , we didn't have to call the police once and in all those years there was only one occasion where a minor scrap occurred.
if you can imagine a group of 200 skinheads , punks, bikers et al singing along to Nelly the Elephant by the Toy Dolls at full pelt you can imagine the atmosphere, come last orders I used to turn the jukebox off and play the Theme tune to postman Pat which they also all sang along to and left in good spirits with a smile on their faces , in fact no other pub in the vicinity used to call time as their customers all knew when they heard the Merton chorus singing Postman Pat that it was time to go home
unfortunately a lot of areas now insist on door security as a condition of licence (especially if opening beyond 23:00hrs )

Richardsons went through a spate of painting boats white 3 or 4 years ago and the Magics were done having previously been yellow. For whatever reason the Bronze Gems amongst others missed this and have kept their 1970s orange. Richardsons are brilliant at updating interiors but I always think their exterior treatment is more haphazard. I'm not convinced plain white looks right either because it's a bit, well, plain.
Kate and I did notice last week that a lot of the older offerings from Richardsons were looking very smart in retro colour schemes especially the grey/maroon finish

Kate and I have just returned from a most relaxing week on Cerise Lady , where we travelled south to attend the (un)official gathering at Beccles , met a few fellow forumites (as in the Admirals blog of the event so no need to repeat), we had never visited Beccles , nor The Locks Inn at Geldston or indeed Oulton Broad and found them all to be beautiful, special mention must go to the staff at OBYS who were fantastic as was the meal in The Commodore.
not going to write a long blog but have attached a few pics of our week

Glad you're all ok after your mishap , certainly opens our eyes to the dangers of boating when we take our eyes off the boil for even a second.
