You certainly are JohnK. I nearly killed myself the one time I tried ice skating
The skating part I’m being very sensible ... I’ll be sitting in the coffee shop. I’m just the driver taking her training. She’s represented GB, I can’t let go of the side

That looks a nice bit of kit.
Are you going to be monitoring multiple batteries with it?

I’m taking my youngest ice skating today (ironic isn’t it?) in Basingstoke. It’s a bit of a trek from Lincs (not on the scale of SwanR’s though)
Can’t decide whether to take the stupidly powerful rear wheel drive or 4x4 (neither are going to see ten years old, 100k miles or be worth £5k ever again just in case you think I’m trying to be flash)
I’m thinking the snow and ice have gone off major roads and no more due today so either should be fine. Am I being an idiot?

I’m enjoying it. Don’t normally watch it because I don’t like Drew much. At least I know why now, he doesn’t like boats

Found some better pictures.
Sorry for hijacking the thread but at least I’ve got dog on boat wearing life jacket now
Last picture is even on the Broads.

By the look on his/her face it don't seem that keen on water!!??
Have a good one.
Regards Alan (aka Happy)
She normally just stares at the water. She looks annoyed because I called her to have her photo taken

I cant lift 37kg of hound
love the pic
I think you’d be assisting rather than lifting. If he / she did fall in at least they would be kept afloat and you’d have something to hang on to and it would help whoever helped you to lift. If it’s a worry keeping a boat hook nearby might help too.
Thank you. She’s completely obsessed with the water.

We’ve got an old border collie that loves the water. A life jacket helps a lot as the better ones have a handle that makes it a lot easier lifting them.
Completely unhelpful picture as not on a boat and without life jacket

I think you’ve convinced me to “let it develop” as my old foreman used to say.
Thanks all.

It also depends on how you are using your boat. If she is lying on a mooring for long periods without moving, then you need a "soft" antifouling and not a "hard racing" one. Have a look what it says on the tin.
By the way, don't just antifoul as a protection against osmosis, because it isn't!
I didn’t know that. I assumed different types suited different water rather than different uses.
If I do nothing how bad will it get?

Has anyone else not received theirs yet?

Haha, get it now, very good.
Clearly I’d have got it straight away if it wasn’t for the turkey, beer and gin!

Thanks folks.
I will tilt the outboard out of the water.
It looks like the anodes need replacing but otherwise I think it’s ok (although to be fair I haven’t run it yet).
I don’t have a trailer for it.
As I see it I have three options.....
1. Do nothing
2. Get a hull brush (or whatever they’re called) and do my best to manually clean it. I do have 270 degree access when it’s moored.
3. Pay someone to get it out and anti foul it.

What do people tend to do with GRP boats that are in the Broads all year round?
I guess the other stupid newbie question I should ask is do GRP boats need to be treated differently to wood?
We’re talking 15’ day boat with outboard.
I do get my ski boat anti fouled that sits at Goodchilds but that’s more about not loosing performance. Not sure what to do with the day boat (or what’s been done to it in the past)

Thanks for that.
I found these too.

I’ve no idea if they’re any good.

Hi all,
Can anyone recommend a good outboard dealer on the broads?
Ideally with plenty of stock and good advice.

This might help:
Bilge Pump Filters - Mandatory?
http://forum.norfolkbroadsnetwork.com/index.php?/topic/14207-Bilge-Pump-Filters---Mandatory%3F
The summary (I think) is that you either need a tray that catches any engine oil that could escape or a filter that traps the oil on the bulge pump line.

I’m thinking if I find a petrol outboard I’ll use it otherwise I’ll buy an electric one.
If i go electric on 1st April I’ll change it from motor to electric boat.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
My better half pays much more attention than me and she reckons the previous owner paid £64.25 for this year which means it appears to have been registered as a motor boat. So we’re good until the end of March. Just need a little petrol or electric outboard (unless I find one in the shed I’m also about to gain
)

The moment that you put an outboard on the back of a rowing dinghy it then becomes a motorboat and attracts a higher toll.
Thought as much. Thanks for the confirmation.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I suspect you will have to get this via "snail mail". They don't have downloads for documents/forms etc.
Thanks for that. I suspect you’re right (although I did find the registration form online).

If the BA dropped the tolls wouldn’t the result of that be more boats?
Compounding the problem further they’d then have less money to spend on moorings wouldn’t they?
Maybe I’m adding two and two and coming up with five but I wouldn’t like see more boats unless the infrastructure supports it.

This is most probably a very stupid question that we all know the answer to. But I’d like confirmation if anyone knows.
I’m about to gain a little rowing dinghy.
Can I put a little electric outboard on it or by doing that am I breaching my registration?
