  1. I saw elsewhere someone talking about oil from boats getting into the water.

When I had a BSS test done earlier this year on the Broads I had to have a filter fitted to my bilge pump outlet. I think this is a very good idea personally. To be fair I did also have the option of removing the bilge pump but that felt like a terrible option.

When I’ve had BSS’s done in the past (not on the Broads) I haven’t needed a filter on the bilge pump.

So is it a Broads thing? A new thing?

  2. Thanks for all the comments. You’ve convinced me I definitely need a boat that will go under Potter, I’m not one for crowds.
To be clear, I wasn’t trying to provoke an argument, just trying to learn.
Is there an official or generally accepted cut off between north and south? Breydon? GY? Confluence of the Bure and Yare?

  3. Ricardo’s post on another thread made me think about this so rather than hijack that one ... here we are.

Do you think there’s a big difference between the northern and southern Broads?

    In what way?

Is there a degree of them and us?

Which do you prefer and why?

Apologies if this has already been done to death.

  4. Might be worth checking the version of the Tapatalk plugin on the server is up to date.
Mine seemed to be working ok and I didn’t notice the problem until I quoted a post and there was loads more text than I’d seen before.
But maybe all the posts are more wordy than I’m seeing (but that’s very hard to believe )

  5. I have noticed recently that more and more Comunity Speed Watch areas appearing, does any one know what powers these people have.
There was one yesterday in Salhouse but where standing only a 100 yards or so from the 30 mph sign and seem to be writing down every cars number as it passed.
    Doug.

I’ve had a letter from the police because I was speeding through a village according to a community speed check.
I would have been a lot more convinced of the value of this if they’d been near the school in the village. But they were hidden next to the end of speed limit sign at the end of the village, past the last house, where there’s no footpath and downhill from the canal bridge. Clearly just trying to collect as many numbers from speeders as possible. Not saying they all do that but “mine” certainly were.

  6. There you go
Dairyshop 10pcs Colorful Plastic Pinwheel Wind Spinner windmill Wedding Kid Party Supplies https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0742DXRCB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_tykcAb9ZSS24E
Unless you want a trip to the seaside in which case the ones off the internet don’t work and you need the ones from the seaside
A stick stuck in the ground (like a two foot bamboo cane) with a plastic bottle upturned on the top of it allegedly works too.

  7. Having been on a one man mission to catch the little devil that is trashing my front lawn for several months I didn't think I had become obsessed.
    maybe I have though!!!
the wife was unusually insistent I checked  my mole traps today. normally she doesn't care.
Oh how I laughed when I went to check the traps.

Haha, I like that a lot.
When we had moles (or perhaps a mole) someone suggested sticking kids windmills in the ground (the little plastic ones on a stick). I thought they were taking the Mick but I tried it and the moles did move on. Allegedly they don’t like the vibration.
This is where you say you tried that and it made no difference

  8. I suspect lots of people are starting this same topic

I’d love to know what people think about this. Not whether the Broads should be (or even is) a national park or whether the Broads Authority do a good job but whether commercialism is needed.

I think commercialism is essential for the Broads because ....

Without boats on the water there would be a lot less people visiting.

Without commercialism there would be no one to sell or hire people boats.

Without the income from boating the BA would be unable to maintain the Broads

The Broads were cut for commercial purposes initially. They aren’t a natural feature and would revert to marshland without maintenance.

  9. In my opinion it’s a real shame that another person feels the need to leave because they feel they can’t openly express their views.
Personally I like the idea that we can have open debate but maybe that puts me in the minority.
I don’t agree that commercialism of the Broads is bad but I think it’s sad Soundings feels the need to leave here because he does.

  10. I’ve got a BlackVue.
Lots of features. I like the ability to view the camera from anywhere a lot.
But doesn’t do the basics as well as it should IMO. It often reboots itself. Often after a few annoying minutes of saying “check SD card” over and over.

  11. But you missed the baby step of shaking the bag to see what fell out.

I’ve been lucky enough to avoid that one.
I always think it’s funny that person A thinks person B must be clever because person A doesn’t understand what person B is saying.
    I just think person B is a c**p communicator.
