In fairness EA don't have much choice at Earith as by then they are at the mercy of the tides, from there down there's no sluices to control.

And upstream from there they have to keep residential flooding in check.

From my view they've done OK.

I hope they have working seacocks on, and work them from time to time or likely to seize.

I have 4 below hull fittings and close them whenever I leave to boat on it's mooring.

Thanks for the offer, hows your coding skills I may need some help? From years of general mechanicing of various sorts I've never plugged a laptop into a vehicle to find out what's wrong so coding modules on a modern car is quite an alien concept to me, whatever happened to a long handled screwdriver against the ear to find where the knock is coming from and manual diagnosis.

Mine is the 3 vin limited hex-v2 version, we're going to keep the car till it dies so worth having although I've probably only opened the bonnet 10 times in 13 years, working on cars just doesn't appeal these days as there's too much you can't fix.

The stuff we deal with at work is all mechanical with magneto ignition and carbs or fully mechanical fuel injection, we don't buy a short engine we strip and rebuild and if a crank needs undersizing it gets done in a lathe with emery tape for the first 2 undersizes, we are well and truly stuck back in the 50's, probably why I don't panic about boat diesels.

I remember taking swmbo's company car into a dealership once with a partially seized engine, I told them no.3 big end had gone but they put a new head on first only to find out I was right and would up fitting a whole new engine, the metal in the oil could have told them it was more than a head problem.

I know many people by their dog or boat's name, often I've never known the person's name in the first place, normally say hello to the dog first anyway.

You can haul a mudweight close and tie off then use the engine to get it out of the mud, once free they have less weight while in the water, you can leave them just below the surface and motor off if need be and recover in a more convenient location, it also washes the crud off.

The daffodils are starting to show around here, yesterday they were underwater as the brook was well over.

We have a rose in the front garden thar regularly blooms at Christmas however cold, not seen it this year.

How about a heated seat cover chucked under the duvet while you are in the pub, at that wattage should be safe enough.

I have eberspacher outlets either side of the V berth and a couple of lengths of spare ducting to run under the duvet, always warm and aired when we get it, start with toasty feet and you'll be toasty all night.

As for original issue I'd have thought a fan heater would heat low down space better than any radiator for cold feet, make a wedge for it to sit on so it blows downwards but make sure the heater has a cutout button on the base in case it falls over.

You can't take chances, this guy lives on a narrow boat in St.neots marina and his staging is at nuts level and very narrow,

He thought I was taking the wee yesterday when I asked about if had a lifejacket, I was serious as I wouldn't do it without.

Edit: I also suggested the landlady run the taps to see if he needed a wee when he was fully wadered, gotta have warm warm feet..... :default_blink:

That was my terminology Griff, the charge is only for the river port from haven bridge downstream.

There has always been harbour dues but it's always been officially waived for vessels leaving from the broads or entering into the broads.

I just spoke to peel ports ops who confirm there is supposed to be a £20 charge as of this year for transit either way regardless of bridge requirements, this is another one sneaking up that needs objecting to.

Not an issue for hire craft or river only craft but still another blow for the broads as a haven.

Just seen elsewhere that there is now a £20 charge to pass through yarmouth to sea and visa versa even though no bridge lifts may be needed, has anyone heard anything about this?
