Hi @Smoggy, I mentioned this to Paul last night and he was sure that every enquiry had received a response. Might it be in spam folder or he asks that you use sales@swancraft.co.uk as an alternative to reach him.

I just hunted through my sent folder with a view to resending and I can't find it, my head wasn't very good when I emailed as I was suffering from a chest infection so I may have typed it and hit the wrong button, not even in drafts folder so....

Sorry Paul I may have blamed you for not replying to an email I didn't send :default_blush: please try and brush up on your psychic abilities to cater for idiots like me. :default_biggrin:

    I'll try again.

strange network rail always said they would never but a automatic barrier at brundall because of the hill down to it the automatic barrier wouldn’t stop a vehicle but I guess they are stronger now even thou they look flimsy.

More likely they just don't want to pay someone to do it.

    Accountants run everything nowadays.

I mean what would happen if a meteor descended from space and landed next to the mooring and the vibration knocked over and smashed Gracie's new wine glass? Personally I'd be really scared for the person or thing that threw the meteor. :default_norty:

It wouldn't dare, especially if it still had wine in it!

As for the on-board drinking problem - that will start soon, once I can actually Cruise The Ouse from mid-March (hopefully).

You can practice during the winter months in your local pub, that way you won't stand out as an amateur when the boating starts.

It's a fine line between being a boater with a drinking habit or a drinker with a boating habit, we take it in turns.

  5. We only ever used hoseasons once and it turned out to be a very expensive nightmare, the boating holiday bit was good but the week after I wound up buying a little boat on our local river after looking at day hire prices, from there it just snowballed!

If I'd gone camping instead I'd now just have a slightly bigger tent collecting dust in the loft and a bank full of cash but instead I have to face the miseries of boat ownership and an alcohol problem (problem being too many riverside pubs closed).:default_biggrin:

As a hirer who likes the peace and quiet and doesn’t want a pub then if there’s no facilities that’s a good place to be.

Unless horricks is having another rave at the beauchamps arms.

do I detect a story behind your new choice of avatar?

I don't think so , yet... (I'm sure it gets discussed a few times :default_biggrin:)

Although I think it's only around 50% (if that) of what I post to the jokes thread get allowed through.

I did get banished a long time ago under a different name for daring to take the pee out of myself for getting told off, it was in no way a dig at the mods of the day (I won't mention names but believe one had a flounce and disappeared not long afterwards) but they got the hump and I got blocked, a lighter touch seems to be the order of these things these days.

a thread about The Ram at Brundall and most of the posts are about The Ferry Surlingham and The Waters Edge Bramerton.

One pub always leads to another.... :default_beerchug:

  9. I don't believe the speed limits apply to sailing craft as long as they are not using the engine at the time, generally sailies don't generate nearly as much wash as a cruiser.

Although a sailboat with a running engine doesn't have any rights over a cruiser, it's just another motorboat.

seen food being delivered to the table and thought, that looks really nice, IF only it was half the size.

Ask, they will do a half size of quite a few of their options, last time there Ali had a half liver and bacon, they are very obliging and often off menu is no problem if they have it, I often go for bangers and mash when it's not on the menu, they do breakfasts so of course they have bangers.

I agree with too full a plate being off putting.

Good luck to the waters edge (and the ram as that's where the thread started), not being able to take the dog in has been my sticking point as we always have her with us on the boat, I don't know if that has changed at all with the new owners.

  11. Waters edge always welcomed boats but I think booked made the difference and a huge gin Palace from brundall generally trumped all.

I'm not one for restaurants and prefer pubs that feed hence always the ferryhouse, if you expect fancy food and service you will be disappointed but if you want a good feed and a welcome you're in the right place.

I recall a group the had stopped at waters edge the day before getting starters at the ferryhouse,  I seem to recall the phrase "oh crap I've ordered a main too" if fairness that was previous management og waters edge so may have changed  but never order food at the ferryhouse unless you are properly hungry.

You can always get a doggy bag.... (and don't have to have a dog)

  12. In fairness no one discredited the post, they merely pointed out it was not a scientific study but just a anecdotal post of experience/opinion as you have just said yourself, it was sort of shared as some kind of study.

It's a text based forum, don't take it to heart as text never has the context to the reader as it does the poster.

    Thank you for your experience.

Wells is not for the faint hearted.

Wells is no problem (but it does have a bad reputation) just avoid any stong wind with a N or E, tide wise there's a 4 hour window, HW+-2 hours and you'd probably make the outer harbour outside those times too so plan your arrival for HW-2hrs and you have a 4 hour window to allow for any problems along the way, if you're early most of the fishing boats are happy for you to follow them in as they know the deepest places, go surprisingly close to the greens along the beach as the tide set will always hold you off them, the other side is where the problems lie (I know a guy that got neaped on bob halls sand for a good few weeks).

If you are too early there's good anchoring in holkham bay and you can get fairly close in to the beach for a dinghy trip ashore or just take a cruise along the bay while you wait.

Wells was my first trip on the salty stuff, I love the way the water comes alive as the tide rises and goes quiet as it falls.

BTW the tide sets East around HW-2hrs so even more reason to aim for the early entrance and exit, give them a call and Bob will usually come out in the launch and guide you in if you ask.

Me and a mate took a pair of oldies there in 2011, Leo was early 70's and Silver Gem was 1966.

Getting there by boat isn't easy when you have to make tide directed decisions

I found by cruising at around 16knots it worked quite well for getting under haven with headroom, having the tide pushing most of the way till past Cromer and arriving at the fairway about HW-2hrs spot on for early entry without having to hang around in the bay at anchor, it was a different matter when we still had Leo though going everywhere at 7 knots.
