    The 'Neverspoons' app .

On the app, you can view a map which shows local independent pubs with a green pin and Wetherspoons with a red pin. You can also view a full list of nearby Wetherspoon pubs and you’ll be given a variety of alternatives, including how long it’ll take to walk there from your current location.

The app’s creators say they developed Neverspoons because of the pub chain’s response to the crisis of the last few months. It came under fire in March for refusing to pay suppliers until lockdown had ended and encouraging unpaid staff to take jobs at Tesco. #NeverSpoons has even been trending on Twitter.

Brilliant ! Has anybody tried it yet ?

We are no longer happy to ‘rough it’ or go without our modern day toys, which is why you can hire a yurt, with a log burner instead of a tent now.

'We' have been told that 'we' shouldn't have to go without our modern day toys, because there's more money in super luxury.

For the same reason 'we' must have moorings with electricity, and for most now it seems only at most 100 yds walk to the pub bar.

The concept of a wild mooring or mudweighting  on one of the Broads over night is anathema.

Hmmmm!  Not entirely sure I agree with all of that.  Do you really need a 40ft two berth boat?  The problem I see is that folk now expect hire boats to have the space and facilities of a luxury hotel room, rather than regard it as what is essentially a floating caravan.    For use of space on board, I don’t think I’ve  seen better that the last shape Connoisseurs, now operating from Herbert Woods.  Spacious and airy, with the advantages of a sliding canopy and low airdraft.  Such a shame that they are getting on a bit and looking so shabby now.

The same is happening in the touring caravan market. People have forgotten what is essentially a camping holiday is meant to be like .  So on the roads as well as on the rivers we see behemoths which are being used by just two people.

Status symbols ?  Or perhaps they really just don't like each other....

I’m reading it in completely the opposite way. Reduce VAT so the consumer pays less, can therefore afford to buy more which boosts demand and stimulates jobs. And also increases profits for businesses to survive.

That's how it should work. However....

  5. There has been rather more 'flying off the handle' as a result of various contributions to this thread - contributions I might add which were made in all innocence by everyone.

No offence intended but clearly, offence taken.  Perhaps the 'pm' route would have been the most appropriate ?

Time to call 'stop' on this one now. It's souring the atmosphere here .

The importance that some folk attach to a hairdryer always amazes me! At home, maybe,  but on a boat surely practical is best. Us men, most of us, don't make it an issue, do we? Dress to come boating!

I hide mine under my gold braided yachting cap :default_biggrin:

Apart from the fag ash and dribbled food stains (patina) down the front of the jacket!!

The 'patina' has been lovingly formed from a weathered combination of Woodfords and Adnams finest. I insist on my pint's being brim full and spillage is inevitable :default_biggrin:

The fag ash hasn't been added to since early 2003 !

You obviously haven't seen Poppy when he's out sailing!

There's nothing wrong with my reefer jacket and gold braided yachtsmans cap - and it didn't come from La'Thams I'll have you know !:default_biggrin:

  9. I find it irritating when folk post tha 'we shouldn't be talking about that '. It's a forum.  If you dislike something, scroll on until you find something of interest to you.  I do it all the time .

In my opinion it's all down to market forces

    Supply and demand

If the demand wasn't there, prices would fall and when demand is high prices rise

My son will soon be leaving his home for 28 years (at last!!!) as he has bought a new house from belway homes at a whopping 197K!

    The property is called "Lambeth"

    My first house was 14K!

But all future Lambeths on the same estate are now priced at 220K

Why? The first Lambeths on the estate have been snapped up and belway have "re-evaluated" the pricing structure and up the prices have gone, whilst some other properties have dropped slightly as one product offsets the other

That's good business in my opinion and ensures that the estate continues to grow and the company is able to prosper

I don't see any difference to a boat yard balancing the books and maximising the income from the products or services they have at their disposal

And how many of those 'Lambeths' have been bought by landlords for private lets at rents in excess of the cost of a mortgage ?

It's a Catch 22 for so many. Can't save to buy because rents are too high !

Oh? Which is the other one, in your view?

I see nothing at all wrong with debating this, on a forum, as views from all sides can be discussed democratically. It might result in both sides of the argument understanding each other better.

Is that what a forum is for?  It certainly was for the Romans . . .

But when some people don't like your opinion......

Let their lines go and let them drift down river!

The Skipper of The Titmouse was not exactly an angel. But then Dr and Ella Dudgeon were so tied up with "Our Baby"  the poor lad lacked parental care and probably felt rejected.

Is he really worthy of hero status?

In contrast with the behaviour of the Hulabaloos, most definitely.  Sadly still many - met one boatload such as we were leaving Thurne Dyke yesterday afternon !

Open question to all (cos that's what open questions are)...

If an MP from the party you support has committed this faux pas, would you be complaining and calling on police action?

Faux pas? A little more than that.  A flagrant breach of the law.  Yes I would  !

    Good! Hope he gets nicked!

I haven't tried to get in a pub yet. Me and Mrs Nog are testing the water on Wednesday when hopefully it will have settled down. We have a table booked. Mrs N is eyeing up the gin menu already :default_icon_e_surprised:

Doubt that he will.  Most who do the 'nicking' are of his mindset .

Peter, you are arguing with yourself.

If the hire industry is having a payment holiday and is expected to make full payment anyway, the pain is being shared all three ways. There was always provision for laid-up, unused commercial craft in the Broads Act. It's not only done and dusted, but very old news.

If your suggestion is that there should not have been a payment holiday, fleets might have already gone bust with the loss of hire tolls being an annual gap that needed plugging.

Nobody (appears) to be suggesting that there should not have been a payment holiday, but that both hire fleets and private owners should be treated equally . For what it's worth I was afloat as soon as I was able,soI am not calling for myself!
