That'll be where you form your hand as if you are holding a broom handle or similar and move it up and down vigerouslyWhat's the wave for SLOW YOU DOWN.
That one would be really useful.

Nowadays, if you've got the money....I can remember that when my father telephoned Blakes (no easy task from a public telephone box before Subscriber Trunk Dialling) in early 1958 to ask about availability, he was told by the representative that as a first time hirer he couldn't have any boat over 35 ft in length.

Never had you down as a 'Queen' JMAt low water, maybe, but myself and various daughters have been around several times this summer. Yes, you do have to duck under a few branches. My only regret is that I can not now row round, there not being the width needed for me to use nine foot long oars. Great for doing my African Queen impersonation though despite there being no dastardly Hun to sink at the end of it!

"Shareholders in holding company Archant Limited, which has been placed into administration as part of the change of ownership, have been informed their shares are now of no value."
Very many of those shareholders are employees or ex employees of Archant who had invested in the company over a number of years through a 'saresave' scheme. I have seen the quality of the EDP and other Archant titles gradually decline whilst the cover price rises . As for their journalism, don't get me started !

I wonder how much money/travel/environment is wasted every night just after 10 when for some reason, to report on what happened in Westminster today, it can only be reported by some poor s*d standing outside Westminster? If they employed faster pigeons maybe they could the text back to the studio in time?
Name a TV outfit that doesn't do that !

There are a whole lot of things the BBC annoy me about as well as bias reporting on the news with opinion added at every other sentence.
Why have so much news & discussion on BBC1 & 2 when they have the News & Parliament Channels
Why do BBC1 & 2 have to have their programming changed to allow sport when they could have a sport channel on BBC3
Why do so many channels call news programmes a "Show" Show to me means fiction or entertainment?
Have the BBC & others not realised that since digital with the exception of one or two areas on relay transmitters (and most people in those choose freesat anyway everyone has access to dozens of channels. Including many from outside the UK where we can choose to get other opinions and views.
Finally why do the BBC refuse to even comment on the Stock Exchange (UK & abroad) when it really is the barometer of all things financial (and is available on a US Channel)
I.m sure there is someone in the dungeons of Broadcasting House who has been locked away for 60 years still controlling the master switch as to what we can see & hear
Would that be bias to port - or starboard ?

Does anyone actually think the BBC is living up to its charter to be impartial?
When you observe the number of rants from left of centre accusing it of right wing bias and the number of rants from right of centre accusing it of left wing bias; numbers which near enough cancel each other out; they must be getting things near enough spot on.

That would be a very fitting tribute to Vera Lynn too.
That our country is a land of hope and glory is why so many people wish to come here, of that I'm sure.
The must be sadly disappointed when they arrive. Hasn' t lived up to that for at least ten years !

Come on you seniors...... it only takes 12,000 pensioners to pay their licence fees to pay Gary Lineker his salary.

Question the timing .By the time they open, think this very short season will be over.
There is a local trade as well.
It's only the worst kind of pub that targets just the seasonal visitor. We have too many of those, especially on the Northern rivers.

I've worked with Spainards who can't cook Paella and Italians unable to cook Risotto.
I think the 'chef' at the Stracey held a full hand of things he couldn't cook...

I think we have reached the "agree to differ" point. I especially loved their Paella and had it twice.
We went there once and had their version of paella. A most embarassing experience - the friends we took were Spanish. I won't tell you what they thought of it

drinking the whole bottle in one sitting removes the problem entirely.
But white or rose needs chilling first. And as for champagne.....

How many time do you have to explain that putting the bottle of wine near the hinge side of the fridge door makes it less likely to slide about or fall over when you open/close the door?

Certainly a Crewsaver. Mine is a 150n auto. Comfortable to wear - and I always use the crotch strap !
Here is why .

When solo helming i ALWAYS wear my life saver whilst underway or mooring , Katie wears hers when she goes to lower the mast for bridges , or goes onto the deck when underway. on the Southern waters we wear them as a matter of course , at all times.
A moments loss of concentration can cause one to fall overboard and a then a life saver can often live up to its name .
Then there are those who (in admittedly usually smaller craft ) refuse to use the kill cord !

I am certainly not calling for legislation. However, I strongly believe that LJs should be used in circumstances such as mooring, leaving the bank etc. and that the BA Rangers should be 'having a word' when they see this not happening, especially in the parts of the network subject to strong tidal currents.
Yachts are another issue entirely, and I feel that they should be in use at all times the vessel is under way , not a view I know which is popular with most members of the River Cruiser Class !

I am simply amazed at the reluctance of people on here ( who I thought should know better) to be so against the appropriate wearing of life jackets, and the lengths to which they will appear to go to justify their position.
As I said earlier, I guess you can't account for plain stupid !

I can tell you that the guys at HW make you put the life jacket on so no excuse for those lads not wearing them. I suppose it is not (using that god awful word) cool to wear one. Well when it is your life we are talking about here, cool doesn't come in to it.
And how do they ensure that you don't take them off again when out of sight of the yard ?
You can't account for plain stupid !
