  1. my air filter is just an empty mushroom shaped thing, you can see it in the video.

it's completely empty, i rung calcutta yesterday and he said it's fine some of them had that type of (non) filter.

i am thinking of attaching a flexible rubber tube and attaching the other end to an outside wall, so the smoke goes out rather than inside

  2. Right my boat is nearing completion and it will be in the water in April hopefully.

Now the problem i have is it will need to be hi-abbed from where she is sitting near Beccles and put in the water.

does anyone know where either a hi-ab can drop a boat in the water?

or somewhere that a boat lift is available fairly reasonably priced.

i just rung galleon and they want 132.00 to lift the boat off the lorry and drop it in the water...

also does anyone know any boat transport ppl with a hi-ab?

i used GMR to deliver her but they've shut annoyingly

boat is 26' long 10' wide and weight about 3 tonne

  3. after finally getting my bmc 1.5 to run, i've been restoring the boat for over a year so haven't had it running before.

i changed all filters, oil, lift pump etc so it took a bit of starting obviously,

anyways, she smokes like a pig, out of the breather pipe which is on the side plate and through the oil filler cap.

how can i stop this? as the engine is inside the boat it's not good smoking like that obviously......

  4. nope they put the tanks in the put the top half of the boat onto the bottom half, so not a hope in ..... of getting any of the 3 tanks out without splitting the boat.

but the filler pipe is only 6" long and goes straight into the top middle of the tank, so i may be ok to get a wet vac in there,

the boat has been sitting for about 5 years, tho with the shut off valve in the off position so the diesel could only go to the valve

  5. nope it's not like you're, my supply pipe comes straight out of the bottom of the tank, about 1" off the bottom,

and there is no way in hope that i could make an inspection hatch,

i wanted to put a gauge in and realised it couldn't happen, let along put a hatch in.

i do have a sediment filter, but that is about 2m along the line

  6. after spending all day yesterday trying to bleed my bmc after replacing the filters, i gave up and tried again today.

i have a hand pump that i use to get the oil of of the gearbox etc.

I connected it to the line going into the lift pump and pump, and it created an amazing pressure, so that points to a sealed system.

so i dismantled the sediment filter and cleaned that ( i now have a wooden floor that has diesel soaked into it )

there was a little bit of crud in the filter so i went further up the line to the shut off tap,

there was a bit of crud in there also, but more worrying is i had the tap off in my hand and no diesel was coming through the pipe from the tank.

the first 20" or so from the base of the tank to the tap is blocked.

i am going to get an air compressor on it next week, but i am wondering is there another way to clear it?

as if it happens while cruising i'd be stuffed

i've got to be very careful as i've put in 150lt of diesel a few months ago, annoyingly

i did think maybe i could get a thing flexible rod to clear the pipe but not sure where from or what type

  7. i gather everyone has their tolls invoice today via email.

did everyone else go :default_icon_e_surprised: at the prices this year......

extortionate is a word that springs to mind, mine is just over £350 which is loads more than my car and i use my car a lot more than the boat...

  8. Hi, i had a purpose built SS gas tank made to measure to hold my 2 gas bottles.

the bottom of the tank is below water level, so i asked my BSS man what i can do for the drain pipe to outside.

he said fill the tank around the bottles with vermiculite and then that way the drain pipe can be half way up or whatever.

no my thinking is...... this vermiculite stuff is like a fluffy flame retardent stuff,

a bit like bits of cardboard you used to get inside the old jiffy bags........ which is fine.

So i put my bottles in pack this stuff around the bottles, and hey presto i have my BSS

what happens when i want to change a bottle though?

i lift the bottle out and all this stuff goes to the bottom so when i try and put my bottle in i have to scoop it all out and start again....

is there something i can add to this stuff to make it more like a solid lump, so if i lift the bottle out the imprint will stay there..
