Hi Shaun,
I do hope syndicate boats are the way to go too. Today is the completion date for my purchase of a share in Evening Shaow. I take her out for yhe 1st time on 17th March. Evening shadow's chairman is Also a member of the this forum. As far as your questions go ill have a stab at answering as a novice;
1. You don't have to go through BCBM but they can act as an agent. In hindsight I would have found the share holder and contacted them directly. I found BCBM a bit difficult.
2. Yearly maintenance cost is set at the AGM. As I understnd it you may be required to weigh out for a large unexpected cost if one arises. Check the syndicate fund reserves and specific rules.
3. Cleaning - this depends on the boat. On ES the owners are required to clean outside to the rubbing strake and inside after their holiday. There is an option to have this done by boat yard and a valet and pay cash at end of holiday.
4. Fuel - You must return the boat to the yard with a full fuel tank and having been pumped out after your holiday. I believe this is standard practice. For the gas, on ES owner buys a bottle and claims cost back from syndicate.
5. As for bedding. ES has duvets and pillows. Owners bring their own linen.
6. Same responsibilities as private boat ownership. Or anyone helming a boat. However there maybe added responsibility as the boat is not just your pride and joy it's 11 other families' too!
Moonlight Shadow, the last BCBM boat based at Brundall, is similar, the only difference is that the gas bottles are changed by Broom and charged to the syndicate. We have been with the syndicate for a number of years and have loved it. She is a very safe and easy boat to handle and the dog loves it.
Unfortunately circumstances have changed and our two shares (8 weeks a year) are now for sale. We would love to sell them privately !!!!

HWMBO loves Axminster Tools. He has bought lots of useful 'bitsas' over the years to use when making his RC models from 'scratch'. We've never been to them in person - good job though, it would be even more expensive than usual!!! The current project is a Piaggio 136.

Hi Allan, yes indeed and my first sentance may not have been clear. Because BCBM are not the registered owner is the reason why they dont pay the Tolls directly ( as another poster was suggesting) I should have perhaps said "..and because BCBM are not the registered owner the Toll demand is actually instead addressed to whoever is from the Syndicate :-)
And for Moonlight Shadow, until my shares are sold, the registered owner is me.

down here we have height barriers, I can barely make it under them in the volvo with a sofa on the roof (dont ask me how I know)
Could be a bit noisy! Fortunately none here at the recycling areas. Good job, I am paranoid about height barriers ......

That's unbelievable!!! I thought things were silly enough down here in Essex(no vans allowed.....ever!)but that takes the biscuit!
Down here they say you need a licence for a van, and pay for the privilege.
Haven't been stopped yet, technically our high top Renault Traffic is a van - we use it as a Recreational Vehicle complete with pull out awning on the side (oh and it is Maroon!).
I would argue the toss if a 'Jobs Worth' appeared at our local recycling area.
It does seem wierd though to be asked to pay to recycle, in this day and age, especially with all the who-har recently about plastic in the sea.

Well, I've just received the invoice for Moonlight Shadow's Broads Toll.
£569 and a bit.
BA can be very organised sometimes .....
A bit too soon even by my early payment standards to cough up me-thinks.
Good job BCBM reimburse quickly, that is quite a large chunk to come out of our account.
Another good reason to be partners in a syndicate boat. (Hint, Hint!)

Halon Gas Extinguishers (green ones) Not only hazardous to the Ozone layer ( if you think that way) But very obnoxious to humans so obnoxious as to be terminal
Sounds like I remember - perhaps I mis-remember the colour. After all it is 30 years since I left!!!

Going slightly off topic.
Hi Jay. Many years ago when I was in the WRAF we used to have a small red extinguisher used solely for electrical fires which was 'abolished' under 'Elf & Safety' For the life of me I can't remember what it was called. Any ideas?

Just bringing this back up to the top of the reading list!
JayFire has done a sterling job of showing what Shadow is like during his recent very entertaining holiday posts.

River is fine as long, just stay away from the banks, they are making such good time that water will still be fairly low at Brundall but I would imagine the Broom fuel pontoon has good depth
Trouble is, it is not a pontoon. I often wish it was!

Looks like a boat called Springvale is waiting for Reedham Bridge to open
How much battery power do these AIS take? I see there are a few on in Brundall as well.

Yeah. Not only has Jay managed to take advantage of a spare week on Shadow, but it looks like he will be the first partner to get 'close up and personal' with Indy?
Can't be bad ..

Thanks to this post,it reminded me to get my BSS done.I thought it was next year.My first BSS for SK,BA reminded me to get it done.Anyway Tim will do it for us.What I will do is make a note of it for 4 years time.
B.A. sent me a letter reminding me (as the named owner for the syndicate) about Moonlight Shadow. We had it done as part of the annual maintenance.

Another option of course - go the syndicate route. Less initial outlay and outgoings. Good route to see if the long term plan is to continue private ownership. Please pm for more info if needed.

Hello Jovril and welcome. Have you considered the syndicate route at all.

Happy 2018. Thank goodness last night is over. Rosie is a nervous wreck. The fireworks started at 1145 and went on until nearly 0100. A constant barage of noise. Why can't someone design silent fireworks so that we can have the spectacle without the noise.

Debs and I are now part of the Ranworth Breeze Boat Syndicate.
Woohoo :)
Congratulations. She's a great boat.
I'm envious of the people you bought from though. They are now able to go on to other things. I think it will be at least two years before we can say the same with the sale of our Moonlight Shadow shares!

Have just read a post from Broom on FB that their fuel kiosk pump-out services will be out of order until January 5.
They are normally closed from Christmas Eve until about then anyway. This has caused problems for us in the past for our Christmas allocations.
