VetChugger
I've read a few times that some folk, after polishing, coat the brass to stop it tarnishing. What is best for this purpose please??
DaveRolaves
I have used Rustins metal lacquer, it works well. two to three coats is about right. It dries quickly.
JennyMorgan
Periodically Lidl sell aerosols of clear lacquer which seems to do the job well.
eddybear
Personally, I think brass is best not lacquered all modern brass these days is and will tarnish over time eventually you will need to clean it and made more difficult by the fact that it has been lacquered, Personally I find it quite therapeutic to give all the brass work on the boat a clean every so often and that lovely smell of Metal polish.
VetChugger
I wouldn't disagree with you on that Eddy. The bits I am on about are the two brass rings on the wooden wheel. I just don't really want to be putting polish on those and spoiling the varnish.
eddybear
Vetchuger, By the sounds of it you have got the same wheel as I had all my other Hampton Safari which I would quite often polish never seem to do any damage to the varnish, I was using the brass wadding, Regards Ted
VetChugger
Was thinking more of the ring on the back face of the wheel. Looks loads better than the "rally style" wheel I have at the moment. Only problem with mine at the moment is that I don't have a boss cover. Would really like something like on yours.
