Bigplumbs
Hello We keep our boat on the Southern Broads at St Olaves and she has now been in 2 Years (That is how long we have owned her). I will antifoule her and replace the anodes. I am generally used to salt water and was wondering what Antifoul and what anodes (metal type) people use on the Southern Broads Thanks Dennis
BroadAmbition
Aluminium anodes Anti Foul - Potentially you will now receive dozens and dozens of differing opinions, all of which will be good and sound. Mainly down to personal choice We use Coastal 037 anti foul with a harder boot topping Emperor 034. Firstly an underwater primer seajet 015 on any bare areas. Both available from Marine Industrial at Rackheath 01692 406822, either mail order or collect in person. Been using them along with their products since 2004 and have been mightily impressed Hope this helps, Griff
socrates
We also keep our boat on the Southern Broads (Somerleyton). I have been pondering the anti-foul and anode question for a couple of years. It seems to depend on who you ask as to what answer you will get. Up to now, we have put a coat of anti foul on every year, we use Broads anti-foul and it is a nasty job to do. Being as the boat spends the winter out of the water, I am still not sure if it is best to do yearly or two yearly. The previous owners seem to have occasionally used tar varnish which, although still available, is no longer the same quality that it used to be. Like Griff says, it is probably a a case of personal choice, rather than received wisdom. A trawl on the internet provides as many different answers as you have time to read. Smoggy
What boat and do you take it out to sea? I use aluminium anodes and they seem to do an ok job, I take mine out coastal as often as time and weather permits, with antifoul speed will make a difference to your choice too, I use this stuff https://premiermarinepaints.co.uk/antifouling/semi-hard-antifouling-paint it seems ok up to 22knots without falling off.
