ChrisB
Now what would have been a nice Star to pick up would have been this one renamed Flash ll, built in 1929. All the Kennedy sons and some daughters would race Stars when encamped at Hyannis Port but in the 1930s Joe jnr and John raced successfully in Flash sail No 902 but on the East Coast Jubilee 721 was the one to beat. They bought her from the original owner and renamed her Flash ll. JFK sailed her whilst at Harvard and quickly gained a name as the fastest in class in Nantucket sound and beyond. I remember her coming up for auction and an advert being placed in Classic Boat magazine. From memory she failed to make her reserve of $100K. Given renewed interest in the dynasty and it being 60 years in January that he assumed office, I am sure she would fly past that figure now and bring alot more.
JennyMorgan
I never could understand the attraction of the Star, certainly from a crew's perspective. Only twice sailed one, no great desire to repeat the experience. The same can be said about the Finn, blessed uncomfortable, hard work, both of them.
