diesel falcon
If anyone wants to know how reedham bridge works (well roughly anyway) click this...... http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0 ... o_Beccles/
mjt
I watched the programme on Monday and I just love this Victorian engineering. What a pity that modern engineers don't seem to have the expertise to maintain it.
BuffaloBill
Not a lot different to asking a young 'vehicle technician' to fix a 1960's car really
MY littleboat
Would also recommend the second program in the series showing Dunwich and the ports of Harwich and Felixstowe http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0196y9g/Great_British_Railway_Journeys_Series_3_Darsham_to_Felixstowe/
pks1702
I have seen a few of this series over the last year and although no geek I have found its easy way quite interesting. The one that stopped at Downham Market was an eye opener as they have a fully fledged pub, library and reading room! http://1pumplane.wordpress.com/2009/08/ ... t-norfolk/
mbird
We've now watched the Reedham episode, and most enlightening it was! So it's not just a button the operator has to press after all.... What did amuse me though, was that a few months back there were bridge closures for maintenance. When walking under the bridge, a strong smell of paint was in the air. As the outside of bridge is still as rusty as ever, we did wonder what had been painted. From the tv program, it's obvious they have painted the bit on the inside, that was vivible as Michael Portillo walked over it!!

Dont worry Mark there will be further closures at Easter so they can start on the rest!
