  1. height Gauge.bmpheight Gauge.bmpheight Gauge.bmpheight Gauge.bmp Back in the sixties, there was a height gauge just inside Herbert Woods entrance which you swung out and could check for yourself if it would pass under the bridge. This was us on September Dawn in '66 (from Dawncraft Wroxham). The gauge is the wooden post on the right of the photo which when swung out, was a bit like a 'hanging scaffold' which you could then pull your boat along with ropes to check the clearance. As Maurice said, no pilot in those days but there usually was more clearance.
  2. The biggest increase in costs comes from Andrew Boswell and his 'crowd funding' group who keep taking it to court for one reason or another! The thing is, he has not used £1 of his own money to fund all the court cases and also the actions have been kicked out every time! He now is thinking of taking it to the Supreme Court!! Each time he does this. it seems it increases the costs by millions each time. He then complains it is costing too much!! And yet it cost him NOTHING!!!!!
  3. That's a good way of keeping people away from the sites.....
  4. Looking at those photo's, I can only think how much better the Island was back then.
  5. "Think yourselves lucky you never hired a Ripplecraft boat in the 60's! If it rained, you spent half your holiday bent double. Came home like a knuckle-dragging gorilla." You can get it sorted now though. No need to stay that way at all......
  6. He knows how to kill the boating fraternity to help his NP status aspirations don't he...
  7. Anyone used one of these? A friend is looking to install one to warm his garage. Will be housed outside the garage and piped in. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/373442385579?hash=item56f2e696ab:g:l5EAAOSwNqxlAV3R&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAAwEHprL5R0MhaFT3e8wNfeL2vlk57aCaJBHvOnqxj5P3sJuvDvzi6C1tHm4a4HYVgIHtjAcaT1siEykAQovdgALlpJNrXyiHPi4KzX2%2FH8%2B9LalM59YIzGVl3AIlyA8O66kIqbf%2FPx7E5rk%2BkOSQXbLa2It%2FVXqLIUUIgLFmT0zXDyxRTnhaTcHP%2BOIdlEQVOXNKOpL3zX%2BmziHFreY71e8p8M%2BcjxjjvZg5%2F80Q3WFN7ep34qYrkKUFahzzpcxV8Tg%3D%3D|tkp%3ABlBMUKSN-JTqYg
  8. Ok. I'll put it another way... Has anyone had a notice of intended prosecution then? Never mind the 'bylaws' etc. I'm not here to have an argument whether it's legal or not but has anyone been fined or notified of intended action against them.
  9. Has anyone actually been fined yet for not paying the mooring fee at Ranworth?
  10. Just a slight diversion for this thread.... We did 'loose' the moorings at Acle which I believe Pedro's used to collect the fees for? Can these moorings be used now and are they fee payable or free?
  11. Not so long back, the BA tried to force us to 'double moor' without so much as a by-your-leave! It failed, so this is another way of forcing us to do just that!! Langley Dyke is one of our favourite's on the south side and Gayes Staithe on the northern side. We are afloat from the 10th for a week and this is likely to be our last time on the Broads due to the ongoing saga with JP!! I've been coming to the Broads since 1963 and even owned 4 different boats until recently. The changes I've seen in recent years is for the worse rather than better and I no longer look forward to getting afloat.
  12. How many more 'public moorings' do the BA own? Next year there will be even more being charged for! If that's the case, then we won't be back ever again and I've been coming since 1963.
  13. Is there a sign on the short mooring too? If not, then there should be! My view is that the sign is not compliable being that small, and how do they expect an elderly person with mobility issues to get down on their knees to read the notice? Never mind getting up again! As I understand the law, then the notice should be easily readable by anyone, and not once you have moored? That notice seems to be a cheap one probably done by the person in that office at Ranworth! Does it not also have to have the contravention number on it too? We certainly will not be mooring there in June if we have to pay.
  14. These sum up the reason I like September on the boat.
  15. Although this is not really a boating item, I hope that it will be allowed as many people on here love the drone films and many would like to own one. I have not used this now for at least 3 years due to other hobbies taking up my time. I have flown it today (15th Sept) in my back garden but no higher than 10ft as I have no wish to annoy the neighbours! I’s not noisy as such but I do respect the very quiet environment where we live. DJI Drone for sale. Model No. P330D. Comes complete with 5 batteries, (although they are charged and showing around 90%) I give no guarantee as to their exact state, and a balance charger with leads. GoPro gimbal included too but has been removed to fit in the carry case better. There are 3 sets of rotors with one set being carbon. A tablet/phone holder which clamps to the carry handle. A timer watch to help monitor the flying time. (Needs a new battery) 2 sets of neck straps and a spare controller. Everything fits in the backpack/carry case with the exception of the second controller. I would prefer it being collected from Dereham, or an arranged meeting place, as I would not have enough faith in any postal service for an item like this. If being collected from here, I can show it working providing the wind is suitable! Offers over £100 by PM’s please.
  16. I have for sale this BBQ which we used to keep on the boat but is no longer needed. It's in very good condition having had very limited use. Has room in a separate zipped area for carrying your food. Can't remember how much we paid for it but think a £5 is good value. PM's only please.
  17. We visited both The Lion and The White Horse last week and found the meals to be very good and the staff too.
  18. Small DeHumidifier which we used on the boat over the winter months but not needed now. 230v x 0.6amp with 2ltr tank and auto shutoff when full. Only used for one winter to replace another which gave-up-the-ghost and we then sold the boat. Cost me £45 but looking for £20. PM's please. (Comes in it's box with instruction manual)
  19. I have for sale, as no longer have a boat, quite a bit of this Dry-Mat webbing which goes underneath mattresses and cushions on boats to help prevent dampness under them. The sizes, which I have taken the most useful measurements of are:- 550mm X 3100mm (1 piece) 500 X 850 (1 piece) 2400 X 1600 (1 piece) 570 X 800 (1 piece) 1000 X 600 (1 piece) plus a few smaller pieces. This usually sells at around £25 a sq meter. There is in excess of 6.5mtrs. Sensible offers please around £70 for the lot. PM's please.
  20. https://www.hoseasons.co.uk/boat-holidays/horning-pleasurecraft-ltd-rhmb/streamway-bh2731 I believe that this has been out on hire now, so has anyone hired her and what was she like? I looked around her 2 weeks ago and she's well fitted out as you would expect from Clive.
  21. Sorry buddy but it not an exception! We witnessed this sort of thing on almost every trip out on our boat. Parents allowing the kids to run around the decks, even crossing Breydon. We witnessed 2 boats playing Dodgems and hitting each other on purpose whilst passing Barnes one morning! I did ring their yard and informed the owners who found them and their holiday was terminated immediately. We even got hit twice requiring major work and loss of use for us too. This sort of thing is one reason we sold the boat after many years of ownership + hiring before that. The Broads is no longer the tranquil "get away from it all" place that it used to be and should be and I've been coming since 1962. Just my humble opinion of course.
  22. NotDeadYet, looking at your avatar, are you from Rutland by any chance?
