kfurbank Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 Good to see work is in progress to restore turntide jetty, but progress does appear to be very slow. Wonder if this was quoted as a fixed price, or day rate. My boat went back in the water at the end of May and work was in progress then. Every time I have been down that way since there is at least 4 crew working on the job, yet today's pictures show there is still much to do. It also appears that they are making it a lot shorter than it was? Is that so they do not have to dredge to widen the channel again, but are planning on removing the end of the jetty to widen the channel? If so I hope they remove everything. Quote
BroadScot Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 Its the wrong rain, its taking them longer to get a good sun tan! Iain Quote
Liberty Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 Yes, it is being shortened. I believe the hydrographic(?) models have shown a shortened structure will be as effective as the old, longer one. Quote
kfurbank Posted August 2, 2015 Author Posted August 2, 2015 Perhaps a much much longer one would prevent the countless boats that plough straight on and get stuck in the mud opposite. 1 Quote
marshman Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 Liberty - I assume your question mark referring to the hydrographic survey, relates to the fact that you doubt whether one was done at all?? Yes it was I believe and it was suggested a shorter one would suffice - equally the survey included the old structure by the Dickey Works and I believe they found that that made little or no difference. There are some suggestions that Turntide Jetty was originally put in place for reasons other than just directing the flow of water - who really knows as it was all done so many years ago. Quote
kfurbank Posted August 2, 2015 Author Posted August 2, 2015 Marshman, Whereabouts is the Dickey Works? Is it near the entrance to The Bure? I've often thought that something similar to turntide at the mouth of The Bure would stop the ebb from the Yare holding back The Bure? Quote
Liberty Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 "Liberty - I assume your question mark referring to the hydrographic survey, relates to the fact that you doubt whether one was done at all??" No - just questioning whether it was the right word. Quote
