I am sure all your lure would be just as effective with a single hook instead of trebles,my son and I have landed several large Pike using the single hook method.

You certainly have a talent making your own lures they look very good and I am sure they will all catch in the right conditions.

I am out tomorrow (Sun) fishing, lets hope I am lucky, when you are next down send me a pm and perhaps we could meet up for a bit of fishing and a beer or 2

  2. A single hook baited with Mackerel section or Herring section is very productive, although I have used lures etc in the past, they are very barbaric.

A single hook is far safer for the fish, why do you need up to nine hooks(3 trebles) to catch a single fish.

Try it, its more fish friendly, easier to unhook ,and much safer for the fish.

  3. Hi W44nty,

Thought you might pick up on that. My caravan inclusion was tongue in cheek. I will overtake when it is safe to do so providing that you haven't managed to get 6' from a lorry in front or that there are not half a dozen people behind you with 6' in between them all sitting there saying I don't know where he thinks he is going to go.

I probably have a couple of hundred miles in front of me and that extra 10 minute on the journey of 20 miles adds up when it is replicated time and time again.

You twitched the bait and I bit

Some people are anti caravanners,a boat is a caravan that floats.

No offence taken, just light hearted banter

  4. Why does everyone jump on the speed band wagon? Speed does not kill, just the other week I spent 7 hours at over 500 mph and I am still alive.

What does kill is bad driving and that includes inappropriate speed, HGV's that take 2 miles to overtake causing major congestion then another HGV trying to force its way into the resulting que to spend another 2 miles running side by side. car drivers completely unable to read the road and putting the block on someone else pulling out, when it is obvious that they are going to need to, by running hard up to the car that is already stopping them pulling out. HGV's running on single carriageways without leaving space for overtaking vehicles to pull in. Car drivers who are obviously quite happy to sit in a que of traffic doing exactly the same to try and make sure that anyone who does have to get somewhere can't overtake. And Caravans obviously. :naughty:

I have pulled my caravans 1000's of miles,I have always driven with the law and speed limits, when I am sitting at 50mph on a single carraigeway I cannot go any quicker because I am restricted to 50 mph by law so I am not holding people up intentionaly, however if there is a posibility to safely pull over I will do to let you all pass, just because the speed limit on single carraigeways for cars is 60mph do not mean that you are obliged to drive to the limit.

  5. barry it not just norfolk mate, we run a small haulage firm in essex and travel all over the contry and the standard of driving is dreadfull, everyone needs to be somwhere yeaterday... biggest problem i see on a daily basis is selfish driving the im all right jack f**k you attitude. seen it cause so many accidents its un real. its not more cameras we need, its us as drivers need to plan our routes better and allow enough time for the journey..

Make all the LGV's stick to the 56 mile per hour restrictions, ban them when they overtake and take about 2 miles to get past, keep them in the inside lane only,in fact make them all travel at night.

I have had many overtake me when I am doing 60 mph towing my caravan on dual carraigeways and motorways, nearly buffering me off the road.

Even worse they should restrict the comercial vehicles(Vans),they do well in excess of 100mph all day long.

The moral of my story is slow down, its better to get where you are going a bit late than never at all

  6. Hi and welcome, you have indeed been given some sound advice by Daytona Bill and Dan.

Dan is our resident expert on boats what he do not know has not been written as yet,a wealth of knowledge,he probably knows more about my boat than I do.

Enjoy you trip to the broads, you will be back again soon after.

  7. Very interesting thread, the reason why for me you may ask

I bought my bungalow from Karen who used to work at Hearts Cruisers, many a time late at night I recieved phone calls from stranded hirers, woken up at all hours.

Karen forgot to change the telephone numbers in the boats info pack and my number was still listed as the out of hours contact.

I knew I should not have knocked the price down that much!!!!

  8. I am sure something could be sorted out for you with Richardsons regarding the storage,I know you can store cars under cover at Stalham but not sure about the van,if you get stuck I know of a site where you can store your van about 5 miles from Stalham, its safe, my son stores there, and the owners live on site

  9. In 1969 my wage was £22 per week,in 1970 when I started with the PO it was £21 per week,in 1977 it rose to the grand sum of £44 per week,I remember it well as it was the year I got married £44 bought a lot in those days.

  10. She will be 1 year old next June,so I think if Neil beats me at fishing she might have a few words to say,I have got a year to train her to bite your line through if you are playing a big un.

Remember next year she will no longer be a little dog,but a big hungry German Shepherd

  11. Neil

You have made a good choice as Irstead is a lovely place to see,if you are on the Ant I could even bring Rosie up and see you and SWMBO,we will be on Holiday in June the week after Whitsun,so we will not be away at the same time, and fishing the Broads for free. cheersbarcheersbar

  12. Dan

You must enter Mastermind, your Specialist Subject being "Boats of the Norfolk Broads",you will be untouchable, but do not ask Daytona Bill for any General Knowledge tips.

You will Sail through it Excuse the pun!!!

    :mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen:

  13. Glad you had a good holiday on the Broads, pity about the foul weather whilst you were here.

By the way if I had not told you before,we were on holiday in Dorset at the same time,we stayed about 2 miles from a place called West Moors,it was scorching hot all week,T shirt weather everyday, what a difference a few miles make.

Also whilst I was down in Dorset,i just had to show the locals how to catch fish

  14. I would strongly recommend you go for a long shaft,it will make your boat easier to handle and will be a dream, with a short shaft your boat would probably wander a lot and also cavitate, the long shaft will make her better all round, even mooring will be easier.
