  1. You cannot put the blame on the hire firms,it is a general problem with society as a whole, the yobbish element are now unfortunately everywhere and if you are a business that hires out a lot of boats for holidays you will always get some who just do not know how to behave.

What must also be pointed out is ,not all groups of young people are trouble makers, just the minority

  2. Cheap supermarket booze is the cause of a lot of this sort of behavior, you cannot afford to get drunk in the pubs it is too expensive, these people buy loads to take with them and drink all day long, thus becoming noisy and threatening towards others, sadly it is not just the broads it seems to be everywhere, camping and caravan sites suffer as well, what these morons do not realise is,whilst they are enjoying themselves they are upsetting other peoples holidays.

When I had my boat on the northern rivers this was a common occurence on a Fri/Sat night.

Like a lot of people I enjoy a drink, but I also know how to behave and respect others.

  3. Its a real shame you are only looking at Norkolk because probably the best known Boat scrappy (which is like alladins cave) is down here in Woodbridge - Run by Andy Seedhouse and his son James, it is worth a visit as much in stock are museum pieces and we've found some great things there!!!!

I agree Gav,there is also plenty of rubbish on display at Portman Road, not like up the road at Carrow Road, 4-1 and 5-1 what results for the old enemy.

  4. I just heard on the radio that the 2 giant cranes in the harbour are being moved to Venice, the recession was blamed for the lack of container freight contracts,it appears that more Gov funded cash has gone down the drain.

At least the harbour is still there albeit if there are no ships using it,perhaps it is earmarked a theme park

  5. 3 years ago we had Melody for a week with friends from Luton,on our way from Wroxham towards the Ant we lost a fishing rod and reel which was on the roof, this happen because we went a bit too close to the trees, seeing what had happened we turned around to retrieve the rod from the overhanging branches,as we were approaching the trees another boat who had obviously been watching had retrieved our rod and reel, what a nice gesture ,we thought, but no, the boat sped off down the bure with our prized rod and reel.

We gave chase on melody, lots of shouting to the other boat, but they were not stopping, melody eventually caught up with them at the Ant turning and we cornered the Rod thieves, when I asked for my rod back, they denied they had took it after a heated debate they still denied they had taken it.

Now it was time for some action,I called my mate Martin who was inside the cabin to assist in retrieving the Rod,he is built like a brick outhouse, one glance at him their memory came back quick as a flash, and the rod appeared from the cabin and was duly handed over.

Whenever I meet up with my mate Martin we always talk about the adventures on Melody.

  6. You are probably correct with your views Strowager,to most boat owners the Toll Fee represents a small part of their annual costs and therefore most people will bite the bullet and pay up without any problems.

The trouble is with us Brits is we do not make ourselves heard and are always ready to roll over and have our bellies tickled rather than stick out for something that is wrong, with the current climate of everything increasing in costs people just accept it, have their moan ,and get on with it,

I just wonder how much the £1 in our pocket is worth now,you might get about 40p worth of fuel once the duty and taxes are taken out of it,also you have to bear in mind that £1 has already been taxed as part of your income.

  7. More daylaght robbery by the Government,it now appears our money will be used to prop up the losses in their admin budget.

Unfortunately there is not much we can do about it,its a win win situation for the BA.

What should happen is that everybody hold back on their tolls payment, that way it will hurt them as they will probably have budgeted to use the money early,so if everyone pay late rather than before the date,it might send a message to them.

More people will sadly sell up and look elsewhere for their leisure activities, and in the current climate will probably have to take less than its value to get out of ratrace.

  8. I passed this today on the River, perhaps they should have bought a caravan and fixed it to the barge,it would look a lot better, its also decorated with coloured lights, must look very seasonal when lit up.

However on my trip up through Norwich today I saw several abandoned and rotting old boats which actually look a lot worse, what are the BA doing about removing them.

The authoritys have never liked Thorpe Island been used by people who live on their own boats, perhaps this is just phase 1,phase 2 being to rid the area of all liveaboard boats.

Phase 3 will probably be outside the Waterfront in Norwich, what a mess that is.

  9. You lot are making me feel guilty!!!!

I am only 5 mins away,3 min if the traffic is kind,I would consider a move but I cannot get much closer

  10. I had some great fun duringn the CB era, firstly on AM and then on Legal FM,I had a Cobra 148 which the rig to have then and you could get both the legal and illegal channels, you could also go higher or lower to get some peace away from the CB idiots and you could have a chat in peace with your mates.

My Handle on AM was "Hurricane" and my Handle on FM was " Dirty Harry", we had a local CB club in Norwich which met Sunday evenings were we would meet up,exchange card's etc.

On the fun side my wind up handle was " Fishy Fingers" I had a few laughs and wind ups using that.

So next time you see me,remember Eyeball Eyeball,Good Buddy 10-10
